It's good that we're competing really well at the moment ( only 3 games into the league season of course ) Might be a different story when we don't have the attraction of playing at Hampden but still expect players to sign for us for no wages.

Mick. I think that we need a reasoned discussion on the way forward with as many facts as possible being provided. At the moment it seems a bit simplistic. Professional = good  amateur = bad.

Rest absolutely everyone for this nonsense game, tonight. I'm serious. Eleven changes. Losing an important player in a kick about against a youth team would be ridiculous.

I expect Stenny to be better than Stirling, despite the result. A team with McGuigan is a team that will always carry a goal threat.

Great result for us at Forthbank, but no room for getting carried away. This is still a very inexperienced squad with a lot of learning to do. Would be great to start off with two wins, but we should be under no illusions that this will be an extremely tough game.

You must be gutted that there were only 9.

Celtic. Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, the Fife clubs via FEFA, Hibs, Hamilton, St Mirren, Motherwell, Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock are better according to MPO stats

I had meant to say outside of the Premier. My understanding is that we were downgraded because we didn't offer professional contracts.

My understanding is that if we remain amateur the Youth system will go. It costs too much to keep running without any return. The only way to get a return from it is offering the youth players professional contracts.

I haven't decided what avenue I would prefer the club to go down. The reason is that the figures and projections have not been made available.

They have brought 9 players in on loan from Caley Thistle. The point is that they recognise they had to improve to survive and have done so.

Football is evolving at a rapid rate. It's move with the times or face extinction. Every Club has to look at itself and be 100% selfish. What we need to do to mitigate risk we have to consider.

Absolutely but we need to forecast as best we can the outcomes of all proposals rather than a simplistic push for change. Some people think that going professional is the answer without fully considering the consequences and other options. Going professional is not a guarantee of success - East Stirlingshire and Berwick Rangers. What professional clubs have a youth system anywhere as good as ours?

As regards the pros & cons of going pro, I'm not over fussed how we get there and whether it needs votes or not, I think the writing is on the wall and it seems like the decision is inevitable. I remain to be convinced that we can survive financially as a pro club... but equally I am not convinced we can survive in our current form. I don't have any great enthusiasm for tuning pro but its worth noting that when i first watched QP over 50 years ago, only 2 of today's team would have been eligible to play (assuming they were alive!). So, in a way we've already completed a large part of the journey

The big plus point for me is that we might be able to hold on to our better players - at least for a season or two longer than we do at present.  There is much optimism about this year's squad. it may or may not be well founded, but let's allow ourselves the luxury of imagining it is & we win promotion. Surely the ability to offer the winning squad pro contracts would enable us to keep more of them than under the current system and who knows we might be able to last more than our standard 2 seasons in a higher league.

Has the cost of upgrading lesser Hampden been revealed? - it would be nice to think we might be able to keep some of the SFA money back to fall back on if things  don't work out.

On a lighter note, has there been any discussion of a name for our new stadium. I don't want us to play a t anywhere that is "lesser." I woudl suggest we change it to Greater Hampden!.

Alternatively, there is surely money to made form the naming rights. Anyone up for Camp Bru?

Excellent we get double the sponsorship. Our national drink and ersatz coffee.

  7. A couple of comments about other semi-professional teams. Two of them have gone down to the Lowland League. Turning professional doesn't guarantee staying up. I don't think that any club outside of the Premier has anything like our youth set up. Lower league sides survive by having no youth system. Would going professional mean the end of our youth set up? The figures are all important.

  8. Let's start with the obvious. What was the financial outturn last season? What income will be gone after we leave Hampden? What deficit will that result in? Will we run at a profit or loss on match days and season tickets if they remain constant. Do we expect to generate more advertising and sponsorship at Lesser? All of this as amateurs. What would be the cost of a professional squad? How would we cover the cost? Would there be an impact on our youth programme which is meant to provide us with loads of money? We can't make a reasoned judgement on what to do without the best figures available and a detailed explanation of the assumptions made. Given the enormity of the decision it is not good enough to say that someone else knows best. Full transparency is needed.

That would be one way to look at it. Or you could just crack on and make it work. Anyone who's bought a house with a 25 year mortgage will vouch for that. Fortune favours the brave.

I'm certain the committee have enough of a picture to know what's the best option. Last night's meeting was a call-to-arms. Quite clearly they want the fans to buy-in. For them to produce details at this stage would have demonstrated they know which way to go which would have meant our views weren't really required.

No facts (as best known) no buy in.

The "business plan" bit was step 10 and the meeting was about moving from step 1 to 2. Some folk just like to be heard but when you're moving your entire business model around 180 degrees flexibility is the best tool. The fine detail can come later.

By the way, if you wish to become a member and stand for President next summer to steer the ship through just let me know.

I don't agree. If we're told that staying amateur is not sustainable but going semi-professional is then they should already have financial forecasts in place. I am not saying that these should be in fine detail but should be in enough detail to support the proposition. This would also enable the rest of us to form an opinion as to the validity of the assumptions being made and the strength of the case for change.

Queens have put a tweet out about a £2 charge for car parking tomorrow night . Still to hear about increase in gate price for season ahead or the fact we were not told about them getting their advertising wrong about prices re students at the Hamilton game .

For ticket prices look under Tickets on the club website.

We have no rights to anything, we can ask but they have no obligation to grant anything. 7 years at Queen's and we get nothing just because we can't offer a professional contract.

I am fully aware of this which is why I used the word ask. Don't ask don't get.

Re Michael Ruth, I think thats a bad move. Aberdeen aren't renowned for bringing  kids through, look at Lawrence Shankland, he wasted three years of his career at Pitoddrie. Ruth might benefit from the full time training but there's a big risk he'll get lost in their youth system, he would get far more out of staying at Hampden for another season and getting 30/40 first team games under his belt. Anyway, hope he proves me wrong.

In cases like this could we not ask the player and their new club for a season's loan back?
