Can remember watching Jim McArthur when I was a laddie. He was useful. But Duff for me.

Jim McArthur was brilliant, Steve. He made his debut for Cowden when he was about three years old (The Cowboy will know). Raymie was a star, going on forever. Duff was a legend  -  great keeper and a big character. He gave me a bear hug when we ran on to the pitch at Brechin to celebrate promotion. My ribs still haven't healed.

Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan is convinced Blue Brazil striker Jordan Allan can earn a full-time deal at Hibs.

The 20-year-old has joined the Easter Road club for training after hitting nine goals during a six-month stint and Bollan reckons Allan has enough in his locker to secure a contract.

Allan played for Airdrie aged only 14 years and 189 days old, the youngest player to represent a first team in Britain, prior to a spell with Wolves.

Bollan said: “Jordan has a great pedigree having been in the Wolves Academy for so long and I am sure that he would prosper in a
Premiership first-team environment.”

Question: If Jordan signs for Hibs, will Cowden be due any bawbees?

Re Sheerin , guys struggled with weight obviously last few years but when he gets on you can’t fault his effort , was same at Kelty

Totally agree that he basically scored the goals to keep you in league football but it’s a tough decision for you guys as he is a passenger at mo

On his game and fully fit, Sheerin is an exciting player. As well as being a natural goalscorer, he knocks defenders about and creates space for others - just ask the Cove defenders! They were quoted in the Press and Journal as saying how hard he was to play against.  Two or three sessions with a good sports psychologist might prove to be cheap at the price - having an instinctive striker who terrorises defenders can be the difference between staying up and being in the relegation play-offs (perish the thought!)  Mind you, the player himself has to 'get it' that he's throwing away a good career by not taking care of himself.  I would set him up with a reputable sports psychologist - and ask an enthusiastic motivator like Neil Irvine to work with him on his fitness - and offer him an extended contract with penalty causes in it.  He is a special talent. Showing that degree of belief in him could save his career and benefit the club in terms of goals and transfer value.

    Strange signing.

I would agree with Steven Gerrard's statement that Cowden played for 90 minutes but Rangers played for 45.  GB's plan was obviously to contain Rangers in the  early stages in order to avoid a  humiliating slaughter that might have dented the players' confidence for what is the most important thing - the league challenge..  Just think: how much did the Rangers team on the park and on the subs' bench cost? The answer is in the millions. How much did the Cowden team and bench cost? We lost our first goal when Jason Talbot, one of our best players, was off the pitch after a barge by Lafferty. We were far from disgraced, and int the second half, especially when the subs came on,  we took the game to Rangers. If that rebound ball that just crept past the post had gone in, making the score 3-2, who knows what would have happened?  The players can take confidence from that second half performance. After some truly dire seasons, we have a team capable of mounting a decent challenge at the business end of the table.

Credit to the players last night. Done the jersey proud. We looked in awe of rangers players in first 20 minutes. From there on our shape and pressing and work rate were exceptional.

I actually watched the whole game again on tv when I got in. (SAD i know) what I can say is that Rangers should have had a penalty. We should never have got ours. Officials were so poor.

If i were the club and looking to invest some of the money we have made I would sign Jordan Allan on a 18 month or 2 year deal if its possible. You could potentially make money on this kid.

Also watching it back you notice how quick and better Jamie Pyper is. He was superb alongside deas last night. Swann did well also.

A lot of positives from last night and we are no longer a laughing stock team and also aint any pushovers which has been the case for last 2-3 years. Credit to Bollan for this.

The manager clearly doesn't have confidence in the sub keeper. My guess is that this signing is a statement of intent - going all out for a top four place. We have a terrific keeper in Davie McGurn, but if Davie is injured, we're in trouble. Not only is he a great shot-stopper,  he's an experienced leader on the park. He  marshals the defence, who in turn have confidence in him. Having  a good substitute keeper could be the difference between gaining a top-four place and narrowly failing.

Re David Marsh: we just don't know the circumstances. No manager would sacrifice one of his best players just before a huge game on a whim.

    :thumsup2 cheers, Rev!

Good replies on  here, guys! Personally, I side with the romantics,  but we can't really lose, can we? It's great to be in a cracker of a tie that will produce decent rewards and take a bit of pressure off the directors.  The club have backed the management team, and we're seeing the fruits of this. What a difference after the tortured seasons of recent times. We go into this tie off the back of a couple of good wins -  hopefully it'll be a good  experience for our young players. Then, with a more settled formation and a great team spirit, we can motor on and maybe get into that top four. Who knows?

  7. So here's the scenario tomorrow night at Central Park. It's blowing a blizzard. We're into  injury time. The score is Cowdenbeath 0 Rangers 0.  The desperate Rangers defenders  are lumping balls into the Cowden penalty area. Morelos, a second half Rangers substitute, bursts through on goal. The Cowden supporters can hardly breathe. Morelos shoots, but Davie McGurn, who has been brilliant all evening, makes a superb save. Morelos throws himself down, screaming, with no one near him. The Cowden fans whistle for time up, urging McGurn to kick the ball down the No 7 pit - forgetting that the No 7 pit was demolished years ago --but Davie has other ideas.  Noticing that Jordan Allan has started  running at speed, Davie kicks the ball over the heads of the retreating Rangers players. Jordan has timed his run to perfection . He's heading straight  for goal, but the Rangers keeper crudely  takes him out. Penalty! The TV cameras show that the Cowdenbeath directors are sitting in the stand with their heads bowed. They are praying.  Even Donald Findlay is seen to be praying fervently to God. (His Holiness Pope Francis will later pronounce this to be a miracle.)

The question is this: what should the Cowden directors be praying for?

Keep the young lad Allan if possible.

I thought Allan looked good on Saturday. The squad is looking really solid now. GB has been well backed by the board - with this squad we should be looking to put together a run that could take us close to challenging for a play-off place. Is that realistic? I'd like to see a fit Jordyn Sheerin in the side, but the word on the street is that he's carrying too much weight to be a first team pick - a pity, because on his day he's a real handful up top.

As someone mentioned earlier Brechin away in play offs was another cracker

Yes, that was a great day, Vince. Big  Gareth Wardlaw bullied the Brechin defence. Wardlaw had a tremendous work rate - defending from the front, never giving opposing defenders peace. At the final whistle we all ran on to the pitch. We've had some tortuous seasons, but also some great times.

There wasn't much in the game - Didn't really feel that Brora would score as defence was solid. We don't really leak goals and we now win games that we would once have lost - good progress

Are you sober this evening, Cowboy?

The team has improved on the park, and the team spirit is evident for all to see.  This is not a side that capitulates easily. There's a   big payday ahead. Imaginative stuff is happening  behind the scenes - and the players will be busting a gut to play against Rangers. Even if we lose, we win. That's quite a turnaround by any standards. After what we've endured in recent times, we should enjoy this while way may. Donald will enjoy this - and he deserves it.  And remember Mr Gilfillan with his crutches -  exhibiting the spirit of Cowden

As an 'out-of-towner', I've definitely got to agree about the online opportunities the club should be embracing in this age of social media.

Speaking from experience as a programme/fanzine editor and co-owner of a football club, the importance of this really can't be underestimated in this ever-changing world dictated by technology and the net. Of course, it is impossible to please everyone with whatever you produce (unless it's the Blue Brazilian, which is almost flawless), but I've always though that if the fans, town and everyone associated with Cowdenbeath matched the levels of commitment and quality that is displayed in the programme's production then the team and club could certainly punch above its weight for a former mining town with little income from the minimal crowds.

One thing Cowden have more than most clubs in the lower leagues - and probably a reason that I along with many others have felt a connection to The Miners on our travels - is that there's something about whatever it is.... the ground, the place, the history, social responsibility in days gone by and heritage of a proud and loyal mining community that stands out. Whilst locally Cowden might not be greatly supported in matchgoing numbers, unlike many clubs with similar budgets and supports, you do have a worldwide, er, notoriety and affection that is rare to find and must be embraced.

I'd love to have more time to commit to promoting the name of a club that represents such a wonderful part of the world and that boasts such a proud all-embracing socialist conscience.

I feel I'm rambling now but, essentially, what I'm saying is that Cowdenbeath FC.... the Blue Brazil... fondly known by many sad b*****ds like myself all over the world, should be maximising the world wide web to tap into the wider footballing market whilst also maintaining the uniqueness of the club that attracts us outsider oddballs to a random place in Fife.

Positivity and proactivity must be natural routes to take for the sake of any club's survival. In such a dog eat dog world, and seeing how fragile a club's existence can be with the play-off games over the last couple of years, it really is so vital not to get left behind.

Anything that helps promote the club can only be a good thing.

    Over to you....

Im actually no surprised at this and I actually said on Saturday he wont stay long if on the bench. Its a lot of travelling (playing elgin this weekend) thats over 5-6 hours of travelling one way plus the game then home. Its a lot and one thing is for sure I dont have any issues with him (if it is him as dont know exactly whats happened) saying he wants to leave.

He is kind of player who needs to play constantly as being on bench and coming on once in a while doesnt suit Bryan. He was a rock and a huge part of why we stayed up last season. In fact if it werent for him I dont think we would have. So cheers to Bryan who is a top lad as well. Gave his all for us and genuinely cares about the club and fans.

Not sure we will replace him from a defensive aspect but it frees up a wage to potentially add in other areas. Centre mid please...

Talbot any news how long he is away from being back?

It's clear from the photo that Dave Allan has been lined up to take Big Bryan's place. A crash diet is needed, though...
