You'll never get as cheap a gym as that again. It's excellent value when you're a student - I almost won a free year in a pool tournament once.....somehow....and was knocked out in the final when I came across someone who had played pool before. Usually half your team can't play due to exams (terrible reason, who studies a full day with no breaks) or because they've left Glasgow. We probably won't make it this year after saying that... On the Multimedia Development course and we're in a large lab that has a door at each end, neither of them has the fob sensor I imagine that once the work piles up I'll need it if I decide to do work during my free time. Although I did see a guy strugglin' with his last week Im doing Network management and Design , every lab i study in is already open when I get there. Just teach it. The mandatory reading is mandatory, because it is mandatory reading. The essence of the word mandatory for second year law students should be abundantly clear. I'm not naive. I know hardly anyone will read the additional reading and that most won't do all of the mandatory reading. But not even to have read even the material facts of the case referred to in literally the first question of the tutorial is plainly disrespectful to me, to the others in the class who have, and is blatantly attempting to leech off others' hard work. It's not acceptable and whether or not I'm being paid is entirely besides the point. This lot are second years now. Nothing worse sitting there like a spare p***k when it's blatantly obvious you're the only person who hasn't done the reading. But then again some of my tutorials take attendance so I'm forced to turn up without doing the reading. Guest honestrae95 Posted October 22, 2014 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Been teaching a public law course for 3 weeks now, and it's been an interesting experience, albeit one that has been utterly infuriating at times. There are two groups that are excellent and really enthusiastic, constantly asking questions and discussing the big issues with one another. And then there is one group that is quiet but not bad, and another group that is actively soul destroying. It's sometimes just so clear that they haven't done the reading. I sometimes wonder whether I should just pluck up the courage to kick someone out if it is that obvious. Looks like I dodged a bullet in Prof. Mullen then. I'm quite enjoying Law & Govt. so far and seem to have a reasonably decent tutorial group, as in I'm not the only one to speak. Though Mullen goes around the class, so it's difficult to hide. Last year was pretty terrible, one other guy and I were the only contributors. Guest honestrae95 Posted October 22, 2014 Share Posted October 22, 2014 I'm not based anywhere as of yet and I'm not entirely sure how it all works just now, basically it's just six four hour (but apparently never that long) training events both on campus then in their main city centre offices, followed by 156 hours of volunteering to complete the thing. I don't know if we'd pick a suitable bureau for ourselves or if it's just the one place. Anyway the first one was painless, just a two hour long PowerPoint presentation and, pleasingly, no 'icebreaker' carry on. Everyone involved also seems fairly likeable. Good stuff, I was at Lay Rep. training today actually. We're training to be competent in representing those who have been summoned to court over rent arrears. It's actually quite enjoyable in a sad way. I'm supposed to be based in Maryhill, but have yet to contact the manager to arrange a meeting. What would the probability be in new methods, new legislation and new ideas being taught to students, essentially "freshening up" the subject? If I applied for a job 1-2 years after I got a degree, would I be at a disadvantage to these students? Or is this scenario incredibly unlikely/irrelevant? No, in short. Legislation changes all the time, that doesn;t mean that your degree is any less valid to an employer. You think Edinburgh and Glasgow and the like are bad for poshos. You know nothing. There's a boy in one of my tutorials with a quadruple barreled surname. No idea if we'll be any good - I haven't met half the team yet. It's really poorly advertised, and trying to actually organise a team is a pain in the arse. Glasgow's timetabling makes it pretty difficult to find a time when everyone can play, especially when everyone's taking different subjects, and just getting to Garscube seems like it'll be a pain in itself given its location and the lack of transport options from uni. I didn't play today due to illness, but I'm pretty sure we weren't playing girls. I'm told we lost 6-3, so if that was your scoreline then my team was probably the dross you were up against.
