Not so sure, he is only a year away from 30 now, and im sure Chel$ki only paid in the region of £7m for Cech.

Given will be 29 next month, but he's already amassed 66 caps for Ireland. He's still pretty young for a goalkeeper. I'd expect United could get a good 4 or 5 years out of him at the very least. He's a prize asset on Tyne and Wear so I can't see Newcastle letting him go cheaply.

For what it's worth, I think Anti Niemi is the second best keeper in the Premiership after Peter Cech. If I was Fergie, I'd be looking to Southampton, not Newcastle, to solve the goalkeeping crisis.

Chel$ki did pay in the region of £7m for Cech. Buffon cost Juventus £33m in 2001 when they signed him from Parma! I'm not saying either Given or Niemi are as good as Buffon, but I'm pretty sure Newcastle would demand more than £7m for Given. Chel$ki certainly got themselves a bargain.

Yeah I do think Niemi is the option, probably equally talented as keepers but more chance of us being able to get him, as Soton could well go down and they look to have an ample replacement in the lad Smith.

If I had the choice of £33m for Buffon or £7m for Given then I would be leaning towards Shay, theres no way a £25m gap between the 2 of them.

Incidently, we got Shay for £1.5m surely one of the bargains of the premiership?!

Benitez next Real Manager?? Did a good job at Valencia and hes gonna get a lot of stick if the reds finish below the Toffeemen?!

I can't see it Geordie, not at this stage, to me Rafa looks quite a determined character, who has a lot to prove to the LFC support, and I think he will see the job through.

Next season is going to be huge for him, he has to improve the LFC in the Premiership, consistency has to improve, and so does his squad of players.

If Stevie G wants to go I would sell him for as much as possible, hopefully there would be a "Rooney effect" similar to what has happened at Goodison, I would also offload Baros for a big fee, and bring in 3 or 4 quality signings.

That coupled with an injury free squad, will help Rafa, mind you, it must be nice to know that if you don't succeed in England, he will always be linked with the big jobs in Europe when they come around.

I don't disagree with anything you've written there, Geordie. Have Newcastle got an able deputy for Shay Given if he leaves in the Summer? You must admit that a swap deal involving Alan Smith wouldn't be a bad piece of business for Newcastle. With Bellamy gone and Shearer going soon, you need a striker, surely?

Personally Ive always wished the worst for Liverpool, nothing personal just certain fans that live/socialise near me.

I do however think you have been very unlucky with injuries this year, Cisse and Alonso both with broken bones?!

Harry Kewell has interest in football I think and before Sunday I was posting on a Toon site saying I wanted Baros to replace Shearer........I was a fool!!!

I think Rafa has brought in too many players from Spain and not concentrated on proven premiership players. If he gets the squad fit and adds to it then you will have a better season next year, I just dont think youever replaced Fowler,Macca,Owen properly.

He's going to either Celtic or Rangers. Apparently, both sets of their fans heard about Gerrard going to one of the top teams in the world, and they thought it meant them!
