Orange Walk / Scottish Cricket thread

~~~
Just took a look out the window. Deeply depressing.
Motherwell is a depressing hole at the best of times, but seeing thousands of red faced, overweight MISSUS BUNFIELDS slithering around the town in McEwans Lager Rangers strips is enough to tip anyone over the edge.
I would imagine the flags were put up by local halfwits, (although I can think of a banned word that is more appropriate) rather than Orangemen, but they were quickly taken down again, by locals.
Still, it is good to know that there are some people in Carrick intent on proving to the rest of the world that they are way behind on the evolutionary scale.
Aye because going from Aryan supremacy to white Protestant supremacy is such a massive leap.
How did this thread end up being about cricket and Orange walks? Did someone make a pun about bowlers?
Something like that but basically they both happen in the summer but associate nation Cricket is a far more pleasant thing to discuss than how much some people don't like some other people. So it counterbalances the more depressing half of the discussion.
Quickly taken down again after reporting in the press.
Don't see any Orange symbols in those pictures only paramilitary ones. In the latter stages of the troubles the UDA started to have some extremely dodgy connections to far-right organizations both on the mainland and further afield, so would have thought that's where any criticism over this should be directed.
It's not so long ago that the head of the Orange Lodge suggested paramilitary action could occur should Scotland vote for independence from the UK. So no, I don't think they're that distant from their more openly thuggish brothers, sisters, and cousins.
Maybe they should take a few swastikas to Sevco games? They'll look lovely next to those Star of David flags that get rolled out there.
General secretary Jack Ramsay said it.
He was misquoted of course.
It was an officeholder answering a far out hypothetical question from a journalist about 15 or 20 years ago, rather than anything worth taking seriously. We just had a referendum with pretty much zero signs of any pro-Union paramilitarism after all. Have to hand it to the Orange Order they manage to get people to completely lose the plot year after year. Maybe they serve a useful purpose in that regard in helping the rest of us identify complete cranks that are best ignored, but personally I'd rather they just gave the whole 1690 thing a rest, so we could move to a genuinely secular society with no sky fairy nonsense creating unnecessary divides between people.
You mean the grand secretary of the orange order was actually talking a load of shit that made his organisation sound more significant than it actually is? Edited by topcat(The most tip top)
This. Try and not greet about it, forever_blue.
No, it wasn't. They had an embarrassing climb-down afterwards as well. It was most amusing.
Maybe you should read it again
I read it and if you take it seriously then you're a fool.
Have you seen the cut of most blokes in loyal orders in Scotland? They make me look young, fit, lithe and healthy. The Maquis they are not.
I'd reckon that their biggest act of sabotage would be to pencil a Hitler moustache on Wee Nicola's photo on the Daily Record before skedaddling on their mobility scooters.
I read it, too, (it's the first time I've seen it) and shook my head.
He'd have been better saying nothing as coming out with that scaremongering nonsense.
I doubt that the cleverest of editing and "misquoting" could have come up with that - a typical PR disaster from the Orange Order.
Maybe the high heid yins have learnt a wee bit about PR in the last 15 years - although sometimes I doubt it.
