A-League 2013/2014

Think they would be allowed to compete as a quasi Aussie club. Don't think they compete in any NZF comps or Oceania Champions League.

To the best of my knowledge they are barred from entering as they are a 'foreign' team in Australia. Similar situation exists in Singapore's S_League which has had numerous non-Singaporean teams eg Abiirex Nigata (which is a feeder to the J-League team of same name) and Etoile FC (comprised of French and ex French colony players)

. Not certain about this but as if they are full members of FFA and not NZF would the rule be the same as Swansea or the other Welsh clubs playing in English competitions as members of FA and FAW?

Aloisi gone but "We've all got blood on our hands" says the Heart Chairman. Good luck to John van't Schip but can't see any great improvement in results for them and rumours of club being sold won't help.

Unlike Sydney there's no geographical distinction between heart and victory, they are always going to be small time, most people with interest would already follow victory. I'm done with going to a league games now I think, it has more repetition of fixtures than Scottish division 3 and the quality is not great.

Did some reading regarding Wellington and the AFC Champions League. The AFC Professional League Ad Hoc Committee ruled in 2009 they would not be eligible to enter the AFC Champions League after 2011 unless they met set criteria (detailed below) so technically at one point they would have been able to play in the competition. The competition underwent overhauls recently in place for the 2014 edition however the situation regarding The Phoenix remains as it was

They might put it to the test this season if they keep up their recent form but they won't. Interesting to see Victory & Wanderers being slugged with a suspended 3 point deduction due to crowd trouble last week

Will be interesting to see if they would be willing to try more of an NSL era ethnic route by letting South Melbourne buy out the Heart franchise. Odds on they won't, but that's probably the only way they could get a stable and viable second Melbourne club. Eventually the Asian federation are probably going to force them to have promotion and relegation, so the more borderline A League teams are definitely not a safe long-term investment.

Heart were bought by man city's owners last week so no chance of them disappearing but rumoured to changing name and possibly colours.

Not so sure about colours but they will be changing their name to "Melbourne City" apparently. Matches the franchise, Man City, New York City...

Watching WSW vs Roar, Ono's last game, I wonder who the new marquee will be

Really? So he's not going to play any of their Finals matches? Bit strange. Disappointing as he's always a joy to watch. Definitely in a different class to 99% of the other A-League players.

This was his last regular season home game. He will be playing in the Finals with no guarantee of a home as will depend on where they finish as Finals Week 1 is I think 3 v 5 & 4 v 6 then week 2 is 1 v 4 or 6 & 2 v 3 or 5.

Harry Kewell playing his farewell game and booked just before half time 1-1. Melbourne Heart need to win to avoid the wooden spoon and West Sydney Wanderers need win to finish 2nd giving them a week off in the Finals.

Shinji Ono missed a penalty then Harry had a chance brilliantly saved by Ante Covic, Heart went 2-1 up but WSW won 3-2 so they will play the highest placed winner of the 1st finals and The Roar will play the lowest placed winner

Quite a lot of familiar faces retiring/leaving this season - Ono, Kewell, McFlynn, Jacob Burns, probably Del Piero. Must be a few others? Will next season be weaker/less entertaining? Suppose it depends on who is signed.

After his Japanese disaster Graham Arnold should be in an A-League dug out. Possibly Sydney?
