With the signings of Meggatt and Holt, I'm guessing Wullie Dyer will be next on the Dundee guillotine?

Almost certainly. Brutal LB. Had a purple patch in the Championship for us, but as I've said before, I think 38 year old Matt Lockwood would have served us better than Dyer has this season, and his legs were gone the last time we were relegated from the top flight!

Lower end Championship is his level IMO.

In what way are we spending lots on out of contract players?

Folk from every corner say you're spending a fortune on Loy, Hemmings was earning double our highest earner last season, and now you've signed a player who'll need a development fee. All before the seasons over. If you genuinely think this is normal behaviour for a newly promoted side who'll finish sixth then I'll understand why everyone seems so blase about the whole thing, but its not.

Dundee are investing to consolidate as a top 6 side. Ideal time to do it with all those big sides with big budgets in the Championship again next season.

I can see us being top 6 again next season just need a bit of consistency instead of the wee stop starts we've had and I'm willing to bet tank will hit the ground running next season

Players like Clarkson and Heffernan wouldn't have come any cheaper than the guys Dundee are bringing in.

They've signed 3 lower league players, a guy that can't get a game for Aberdeen and a guy that can't get a game in League 1 in England. Dundee have bigger crowds than most teams in the league and they've consolidated a good position in their first season back. It is hardly reminiscent of the Bonetti days.

bit harsh and no very fair. Dyer was one of our better players last season, he has no doubt struggled this season and been very inconsistent.

Decent Championship left back.

Agreed, Dyer deserved a shot this season. He was an important part last season, particularly towards the end of the season.

He's had his shot though and not particularly impressed. Time for him to move on.

In all seriousness I amazed none of your support seems to question any of this, even for a moment. I don't know the ins and outs of your finances, but from the outside, you seem to be spending a lot, and the only teams that do that are Aberdeen who can support it due to building up funds and having a large fan base, and Ross County, who arent run sustainably but rely on their owner. You seem to fall closer to County than Aberdeen.

What have we spent? Other than on Holt, we've not paid a fee for anyone (Except for a very low fee for Scott Bain). Before the Ladbrokes deal was announced and for finishing 6th in the league, we will receive around £700,000 more than we did last season for winning the Championship.

We average as the 4th most attended club in the top flight, only behind Celtic, Aberdeen and United.

We have had an extra home game this season, whilst also drawing Celtic, Aberdeen and United in the cups.

The 'big name' players that we have signed have all had a huge amount of baggage. McGowan was released by St Mirren and had many off the field problems, Thomson was playing for free at one point with Hibs just in a bid to actually play football and was then released after a season where he flitted in and out of their team. McPake was rumoured to be retiring and barely played any football in his final season with Hibs before being released.

I just don't see where this tag of us being 'big spenders' is coming from. Holt is the first decent whack of money we'll have spent.

I reckon we'll have one of the lower budgets in the league this season and increasing into the top 5/6/7ish (Dependent on whether or not Hibs/Rangers are promoted) for the upcoming season, but every penny seems to be more than well accounted for.

Is it because we're doing our business early that we're getting this tag or merely because Hartley is making what looks like, good signings that we've received this tag?

Totally. Was looking forward to seeing him too, especially after he had Navas in his back pocket in the Man City game.

We need wing backs who can get right up and down the pitch with our lack of out and out wingers.

For half the season and only really when Hartley came in, in February did Dyer start looking anything like a LB that could play at Championship level. He had a good end to the season but has struggled massively for us again this season.

I thought he played well under Brown. Think he was injured until end of October last season but thought he played well.

Anyway he won't be here next season and hopefully Holt or Meggat can be decent for us.

Out of interest who would like Irvine to get another years contact? I for one would like to see him stay for another year. He has been excellent this year.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I'd keep Irvine on. Means it's a must to get Kerr out on loan again in the Championship preferably.

Hartley has gone on record saying our budget is in the bottom 4 for this season. Does he strike you as a liar?He felt compelled to come out in the press due to the misconceptions being bandied around about our budget by people who quite frankly are just guessing at figures.

We have no overdraft facility so anything we spend needs to be there in cash or come as capital investment from our board or American owners.

Of our signings for next season, only Hemmings will be on more than most of our current squad are currently coming from down south and you can be guaranteed he's taken a sizeable pay cut to be here.

Loy, meggatt and holt joined from the Championship and there is no way any of them are being put onto a higher wage than our vastly experienced ex international captain (who isn't near 3.5k a week) no matter what bitter ex DAB Houston says.

Another factor that St Johnstone fans just don't seem to get is that we have almost double the crowd they have at a minimum and at a higher price of entry. That's a sizeable income for us. The closest to us crowds wise is Utd and I'm willing to bet that Ciftci, fojut, rankin, Ryan McGowan and Paul Dixon (maybe even bilate) earn more per man than every player in our squad with utds mid range earners (cierzniak, muirhead, canna fart but his erskine etc)being near our top end. Transfer income is an advantage for Utd but I think we can all surmise that's not all been going where people thought.

Long and short of it is I'm fairly happy where we are at the moment. I'd be more worried if we were signing kris boyd and the like as opposed to young players from a lower level with potential to grow- refer to Stewart and Bain.

Admin 1 was big names, big wages, big fees, big mistake.

Admin 2 was big fees (Harkins and Griffiths) in the championship and a massive squad.

This season is players who were written off or from a lower level and a reasonable squad size. Night and day.

Excellent, lengthy, top quality 'telt'.
