AirToBreathe
Scottish people have a unique culture and nothing will change that if Scotland stays in the UK. The disadvantage with going independent is, we become a very small fish in a big pond. An independent Scotland within the European Union would have a small voice in decision making. At present , if Europe decided to implement policies that would hurt Scottish interests, politicians from Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales would all protest. With independence, Scotland is on its own. Look to the United States of America to see the sense in being united and strong. Americans have the highest living standards in the world and a successful economy. Have any of America's states voted to become independent countries? Answer_NO, NONE! The Americans Know they have a stronger economy by being together.

Zetterlund
Did someone just use America as a social and economic model to aspire to? Good Lord. The USA is a political and economic disaster of a country. Average wealth per capita etc means nothing when it's so unevenly distributed. We can only hope we never see half of the social problems a huge number of Americans have to deal with.
Casual Bystander
Too poor and too stupid. We are just not genetically programmed to deal with such complex realities.

Maybe if we get independence Renfrewshire might ask for a referendum to be independent
DA Baracus
Stop replying to obvious trolls like Banterous and his many, many aliases. He isn't interested in debate. He just wants to be an oh so chucklesome and clever troll. Put him and his multiple aliases on ignore.

So I was in NZ three years ago at my sisters and it was cheap as chips, next house up from the beach, great climate, risk of volcanos and earthquakes though, think that might happen in the event of a yes vote? just about every house had a front back yard and there own rain water supply, shes a nurse and her partner also, seemed to have a great standard and low cost of living of life to me. Well done for citing the example of the country that became world's greatest superpower after ending London rule... as an example of why not to end London rule. Are you just having a 'mare or did you get no further than that Will Smith film when Googling "Independence Day"?
