It would be a good debate, i think there were a lot of great family movies in the 80s (Raiders,Ghostbusters,Goonies ,Back to the Future and so on) whilst the 90s had a more serious tone to it (Goodfellas,Schindlers List, etc...) as hs been said 2 superb decades of film, definetly my favourites as it was the last time we had films with proper effects as opposed to CGI fests which we have now, that can be good but is often overdone and can kill the character of a film, the Star Wars prequels being good examples.
