Both in my top ten and still to come surely.

Empire would probably be in my all time top 10 tbh. Spellbinding film that I've probably seen more than any other.

"Bad news"

"Is the war in Russia going badly?

"No Schalke got beat 2-0"

My favourite football reference in a film to date from Das Boot.

Very good film. I recall it was shown as a mini series back in the day?

Absolute corker.

Platoon has not aged well imo, could barely sit through it last time I watched it.

No subtlety at all, some much more thoughtful and nuanced 'Nam films out there, but I suppose that's Oliver for you. The older I get the less I appreciate his films.

Revisited Platoon 5 or 6 years ago and couldn't for the life of me see what all the fuss was about at release. Maybe we've just been spoiled for good war movies in the years since.

Stand By Me is another good call that didn't make my top 10.
