The Storms & Severe Weather Thread

The sky was looking quite ominous this afternoon, surprisingly warm and a bit humid. Wind has been picking up gradually through the day as the weaker fronts go through

This is a good site to keep an eye on for tomorrow to see how the approaching storm develops - yr.no

Never realised that our Zen Archer was a mod over on net weather. I see his laid back easy going style over here on this thread as well, a sign of a good moderator.

Noooo!! Not the 120 mph winds  Nathan Rao of the Daily Express warns us of our impending doom.

Storm Frank: Flooded Britain faces 48 HOURS of torrential rain & 120mph gales from TONIGHT

http://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/629389/Christmas-New-Year-weather-forecast-heavy-snow-Storm-Eva-rain-wind

We are fucking doomed!!

But in all seriousness, it would be the possibility of more heavy rain from this system that would be the biggest concern. Worth keeping an eye on http://floodline.sepa.org.uk/floodupdates/and http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1451347200

This site shows an animated map showing rainfall according to radar. Ireland getting hit right now. This is one of many fronts that will push through over the next 24 hrs to the south east of the center of Storm Frank.

Surface pressure charts show us only getting clipped by the storm as it curves back in a north westerly direction. Some pressure drop tomorrow as it reaches Iceland. But for us its all those fronts bringing all that rain that will be our problem.

Really mild this evening, went through to Dingwall for the football no problem, but the wind has a chill to it. Got back to Inverness about 11.30 and the wind suddenly picked up, just went from a gentle breeze to a gale within 10 minutes, sounds really fierce out there right now.

Storm Frank is now a weather bomb having dropped 30mb in 18 hours. A low pressure system has to drop 24mb in 24 hrs to qualify to be called a weather bomb.
