Decent game in Stuttgart yesterday.

VfB were the better team and did far more going forward but their final ball into the box was poor. Service to Gomez was non-existent. Hertha took the lead through a combination of poor defending and poor goalkeeping.  They never really pressed for a second and that was a big problem. 2nd half Stuttgart were better, after changing formation to what looked like a back 3, and were delivering better balls forward. Mario Gomez is still a fantastic striker and he bundled a ball across the 6 yard box into the net. His winner was a really great header from about 7 or8 yards out and the Hertha keeper had no chance. Hertha did have a go at 2-1 down and it took the VfB keeper tipping a hard shot over the bar to secure all 3 points for the home side.

Clearly Stuttgart are where they are on (lack of) merit but it would only take a little bit better defending and some better service to Gomez for them to put relegation fears behind them. Hertha will finish mid table - a competent but uninspiring side.

Sadly overshadowed by the news that the father of Stuttgart captain Gentner died in the stadium shortly after the game.

Not sure if there was any talk of it as fans were waiting for the u11 back into the hbf. We were out the ground pretty early but headed to the wrong station at first. Got to Neckarpark Stadion station about 20 minutes after full time and queued for 10. Nobody was talking about it in the queue or at the hbf.

Horrible thing to have happened.

Wasn‘t expecting anything on Saturday against Bayern, but 0-1 down after 68 seconds, meant that any hope of sneaking a point was a waste of time.

Thereafter Bayern dominated, the game stats are fairly pathetic from an H96 perspective.

Now bottom with both Düsseldorf & Stuttgart getting 3 points. At least Nuremburg also got beat.

Next up, a 770 mile round-trip to Freiburg on Wednesday/Thursday!

Went to Köln v Madgeburg last night. Laboring 3 0 win in the end, playing two slow, cumbersome forwards isn't pretty sometimes but they got a poachers effort each, Cordoba offering far more than Terrode. If we want to stay up next season, we need more pace and urgency up there.
Madgeburg missed a sitter at 0 0 and played well until the final third.

Cheers lad. Aye thats a Shiter, 4 in a row?!

I'll be at Lev v Bremen as the missus' family is coming and her little brother is a huge Bremen fan.
Is it easy enough getting a Bay Arena card to pay for stuff on the day?

Getting the Arena Card is easy. You can also pay with a regular EC/German ATM card if you load some money onto the chip.

A long trip (6 hours down, o/n, then 5 1/2 hours back) for the game in Freiburg on Wednesday night.
After 90 seconds was thinking ‚why bother‘ when Freiburg got a penalty which they duly converted.
Equalizer through Felipe ca. 10 minutes later. Thereafter not that many chances from either team, but a good game all the same.

Still in the bottom 2, game tomorrow against Düsseldorf is a proverbial 6-pointer!

Looks like a magnificent segregation fence for some venomous abuse. Anything to report or all very boring/friendly?

f**k that for a view.

Enjoying the German double header tonight. Koeln 2-3 Bochum was a very good game with 4 ludicrously bad goals, and  Dortmund 1-1 Gladbach at the break.

Away block was stowed by the time I got in, that was the best compromise between looking through the fence or the Ultras‘ flags.

Next to no interaction between both sets of fans. German football tends to lack ‚banter‘ between fans as well as between fans & opposing players.

Oh I dunno. Paderborn tried to lob some beer at us a couple of months back, when they had a second not scoring a bloody goal.

Fun fact, I spent a summer when I was 16 training with Paderborn when they were complete dross competing in the 2nd Bundesliga. It’s a lovely town.

Another disastrous week for H96.

Announced on Friday that last seasons top scorer Niclas Füllkrug would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. With Harnik (to Bremen) & Klaus (to Wolfsburg), the club will need to seriously get a couple of goal-scorer in to try and avoid relegation.

0-1 at home to fellow strugglers Fortuna Düsseldorf was the worst result possible, with Düsseldorf grabbing the points in the 92nd minute courtesy of some dreadful goal-keeping by Michael Esser.

Result leaves H96 joint bottom with a paltry 11 points. First 3 games in 2019 are Bremen, Dortmund & Leipzig before an absolute must win game at home to Nürnberg.
