2015/16 FA Cup

Recommended Posts

FCUM previously rejected a chance for their game to be shown live as it would mean they can't play at 3PM.

No seriously

To be fair, it wasn't really on telly. It was to trial a “brand new BBC Mobile Match of The Day Live experience”.

How many matches are televised? It'll be Didcot Town vs. Exeter City and Salford City vs. Notts County if it's two, IMHO.

there will be a Friday night game. Possibly a Saturday lunchtime game and definitely a Sunday game.

Confirmed so far are:

Salford v Notts County (BBC, Friday 6th)

FC United of Manchester v Chesterfield (BT, Monday 9th).

But FCUM aren't happy.

The "tl;dr" version is"

FCUM: We don't want to play on Monday

FA: You will play on Monday

FCUM: *Toys everywhere*

Find the antipathy towards FCUM on this very strange.

Their statement makes it clear that they don't object to TV per se, but they surveyed their fans and found that if games were moved, then Friday night and Sunday were the preferred choices, with the other weeknights very unpopular. They're also upset that the FA has set a compulsory minimum ticket price which is more expensive than their standard tickets, and they're going to give every home and away fan a food/drink voucher to account for the difference.

No wonder British fans get screwed when we view clubs listening to their supporters as AMF hipster nonsense.

ETA: When Newcastle were in the Championship, Sky decided to move our title winning fixture to a Monday night with a fortnight's notice. That fixture was away to Plymouth Argyle, and this was at a time when there were no flights due to that Icelandic volcano. Clubs should protest about this stuff more often.

It's pretty irritating to move a game at short notice. I think the Premier League have got better at this in recent years, not so sure about the Football League as per the example given.

However, this is different. The match hasn't been rescheduled, tickets aren't on sale yet.

Most non-league fans would be excited if their team was going to be on telly. FCUM still carry the attitude contained within that awful song "we're Man United, we do what we want". They're basically still just Man U fans who feel they're doing non-league a favour by being there. If they really wanted to watch non-league there's nothing to stop them watching Chorley, Altrincham, Hyde or any other of a myriad of local teams rather than adding another to an already crowded market place.

The whole reason for their existence is pretty tedious too. If Blackpool set up a new team considering the utter twat running their affairs I'd have some sympathy. With FCUM it's all "they wouldn't appoint the owner we want and now we can only spend £100 million a year on transfers". They're spoiled brats.

Hypocrites too, as for all their protests about the commercialisation of football and television they still watch real Man U games on telly.

In non-league circles their fans are nearly always regarded as among the most self-entitled and arsey.

Hope they get stuffed.

This already started!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015%E2%80%9316_FA_Cup_Qualifying_Rounds#Extra_Preliminary_Round

Already the only three teams I give something close to half a monkey's about in England are out (Clapton, Waltham Forest and FC Romania)

Biggest win was 11-0 for Coleshill Town v Ellesmere Rangers and Bishop Auckland got the highest attendance with 529 fans there to see their draw with Shildon

I love this competition. I'm glad to Scottish is slowly getting the same with all these diddy of diddiest sides making the numbers up.

I have never understood why you don't have a similar system up in scotland with 'everybody' allowed in, but then again, the more I visit and the more I get to know about it, the more I realise there is quite a lot about Scottish football I don't understand.

I also love the FA Cup and have seen a match in every round from the pre qualifying round right up to the final and every round in between over the years. My second club Gateshead have already fallen in the last round to Worcester from the division below (Gateshead are a full time pro club and Worcester are amateurs). It's a great competition and I always look forward to the the third round draw in the hope Sunderland get an away tie at a lower league ground I have yet to visit and then go on a cheeky run to the later stages.

The 3rd round day used to be the biggest day of the calendar in England apart from the actual final and these days clubs play weakened sides and gates are lower than the league matches. It was the other way round back in the day, but I still love it even now.

I fully agree with you mate. Sunderland had a late season match away to Portsmouth moved to a Monday night a few seasons back as it was a potential relegation decider. Not as far as your Plymouth game, but amounts to the same thing, i.e. at least one and probably two days off work required to attend.

Then there is the financial issue. The premier league is dripping with cash, yet when games get moved there is no mechanism for fans who have booked travel arrangements and overnight stays to get refunds. Imagine if you bought a stadium concert ticket and they then moved it to two nights later because ITV wanted to show it live on TV? It wouldn't be allowed to happen and there would be absolute hell on, so why should a football match be any different?

Lol wut. In no way can you sit there with a straight face and tell me they all watch Man United on the tele. If you believe that then you need your head tested.

Lol wut. They sing Man U songs all games, including for players like Giggs and Cantona who have never had any involvement with FCUM. They're a Man U tribute act. Do you think Bjorn Again have never listened to an Abba album?

Obviously they have an association with Man Utd, but not within the last 5-10 years. Maybe if you heard them singing a song about Anyhony Martial or Mephis Depay, your statement might have a bit more credibility.
