Morton - Motherwell

Thanks for the suggestions lads. Leaving work at half 3 to hopefully avoid M8 traffic so if I get there early enough think I'll park near the ground then wander into town for a pint and a munch, Maybe get the train back to Cartsdyke as you suggest Vikington.

I'm not confident in the slightest of us getting through this tie as the only reason we managed to scrape past East Fife in the previous round was down to them tiring late on in the game allowing us back into it. Morton I reckon will be a much tougher prospect and we won't be so lucky this time around.

2-0 to the home side.

While you say that, I remember the last time we met you'd beaten Queen's Park 4-0 in the previous round but apparently the score line really flattered you so a tie against a tougher prospect in Morton might have been a worry. 6-0.

I certainly don't expect the same today but we're hardly cup specialists. Only beaten one team from a division above us in the last five years now.

But the 'well team from that day was frankly on a different planet to the team we have now....

  • 01 Randolph
  • 03 Hammell
  • 15 Hutchinson
  • 22 Clancy (Page - 45' )
  • 04 Law (Humphrey - 60' )
  • 06 Hateley
  • 08 Jennings
  • 14 Lasley (Carswell - 60' )
  • 09 Higdon
  • 11 Murphy
  • 24 Ojamaa

With the exception of Tim Clancy (who, to be far to him, done us a good turn), what a bloody side that was.

Makes you fucking greet thinking about the side we've got now.

That's quite depressing, although the 1 time we did beat a higher ranked team was glorious.

Its the 2 year anniversary of that great night on Thursday!

Very true, athough I'm naturally focusing more on Morton than yourselves. We're probably a better side than then, and on a far better run of form but not only do we not really do cup shocks (hiya Celtic), the cups have been the major black mark on Duffy's tenure so far (hiya Spartans).

I don't think predicting a narrow defeat would be too wide of the mark.

What is even scarier is that that particular match, almost four years ago, was the last time we won a Scottish Cup game, such is our dismal domestic cup record since. We've only managed to scrape wins against Livingston and East Fife in the league cup in the same period.

My worry is that we are barely good enough for a goal a game - Saturday at NDP was a case in point of a close game that didn't create nearly enough chances. I actually think that our strikers are good enough - but the service to them is extremely poor at the moment. Anyway - aff to the game....
