Mr Rational Posted April 8, 2016 Share Posted April 8, 2016 The thread I started about house repairs got me thinking about what my folks are doing which is travelling the world and looking after folks houses while they are away on holidays. They've been travelling over Australia for a year now, mainly aroud Brisbane and the Gold Coast, but they have been down to Melbourne and Sydney as well. Basically it's this - people might go away for a three month cruise and they have a dog or cat. Rather than leave their house empty and their pet in kennels, you get a house sitter to come and and look after the house - rent free. You just have to get there and buy food. They have been in houses that are best described as 'interesting' and by that I mean hovels, other's had their own jetty with speedboat for my old man to use. https://www.aussiehousesitters.com.au/ https://www.trustedhousesitters.com/house-and-pet-sitting-assignments/ They quite fancy India on retirement in 3-4 years time, after a few years there, it's the States, possibly the Caribbean. So would you do it? Looking at things like this recently and have been giving it some thought. The site we looked at covered places around the world and some of the places were incredible. "Yeah. come and live in our place in Beverly Hills, use our car and pool, just make sure you walk Fido once a day". Because of the price of putting your pet into kennels it's actually cheaper for folk just to let you live in their house. We looked at a place and it was something like 71 days in Belize, rent free which sounded amazing. On the other hand though you would be stuck in Belize for 71 days, kind of limits your travelling.
