HibeeJibee
Perhaps this could be suited to Infowire or indeed another website, but you never know. While reading on the Balkan Cup earlier I came across reference to the European Railways Cup for clubs which was held between at least the late 1950s and the late 1980s. It was open to clubs affiliated to or with their origins in railway teams - i.e. clubs with names like Lokomotiv, CFR, Zeljeznicar or Rapid. I've never heard of a tournament run on such lines but its boasts a list of winners including Locomotive Sofia, Rapid Bucharest and Lokomotiv Moscow. There is even footage on Youtube of Kairat Almaty of what is now Kazakhstan beating Rapid Bucharest in front of what look like packed stands on a cold, foggy night. Anyone ever heard of this before? Little online, as it is presumably in Cyrillic/Slav.
lionel hutz
I'm pretty sure it's Russian; thank god there was never a ScotRail team, cos they'd always turn up late and forfeit the match
HibeeJibee
It was international - finalists include clubs from USSR, Bulgaria, Romania, Czechoslovakia.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Railways_Cup Seemingly that final above was of some significance: it made Kairat the first Soviet club to win an international tournament. NorthernLights
Which clubs from Scotland (or maybe the UK) could have theoretically been eligible for such a tournament? Inverurie are the first time that comes to my mind.

HibeeJibee
Before WWII there were railwaymen 'internationals' Scotland v England. Ditto for police, cabbies, possibly miners. I've asked about the tournament on Bert Kassies, few replies so far. An extensive trawl of the internet has turned-up several additional points. Firstly: that the organisers of the tournament were the MSSZ, or the ISUR, depending on the language presumably - the "International Sports Union of Railwaymen". Secondly: their tournaments in all kinds of sports were held over four-year periods, like the Olympics, which allowing for recalibrations means the winners list in English Wikipedia may be complete. Source for these p327-328 here:http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~rosenl/sports Folder/Soviet Sport and Soviet Foriegn Policy.pdf Thirdly: other participants have included - Locomotiv Plovdiv of Bulgaria, Demispor of Turkey, and Kolejarz of Poland.
