Disingenuous Celtic occasions

I once saw a couple of flags within a few yards of each other in the Celtic end at Tynecastle. One was the flag of the Spanish Republic, the other was the flag of the Vatican

Is that the kind of thing you're after?

I don't really think that is disingenuity. It's not even hypocrisy, given that two different people were presumably holding the two different flags.

It is quite ironic that right-wing teams from continental Europe will identify with Celtic because (possibly outwith N. Ireland) the Catholic church has been pretty pro-fascist and left-wing clubs will identify with Celtic because we are left-wing because Irish Republicanism is a left-wing movement. For example, I think that there have been groups from both Hellas Verona (fascists) and Livorno (socialists) over for Celtic games in my lifetime.

I do wish that Viva La Quinta Brigada was sung more widely instead of some of the pro-RA stuff.

Robert Kelly was who was Celtic chairman was the one who never wanted anything on the Celtic top. Whether it be numbers, Badge, sponsors or kit maker logos. Though all those except numbers were never on nearly all teams kits before the 1970s. The first time anything appeared on a Celtic top was 1976, when the Umbro motif appeared. Celtic's badge appeared a year later then sponsors from 1984. Jeezs.... The first time anything other than a round collar appeared was in 1972. Then we stubbornly put numbers on the sleeves in 1994 before eventually moving the numbers t9 the back of the shirts.

Why choose that song?  Isn't there a tune celebrating the pro-Franco achievements of The Irish Brigade?

Don't think so. The catholic church is roundly criticized in Viva La Quinta so that'd be one in the eye for the bhoys with the Vatican flegs.

Personally I just really enjoy the tune. It's a choon.
