Queen of the South vs Dunfermline: 5th place showdown

Recommended Posts

The importance of this game is certainly being ramped up. So much so, I can feel a halftime riot brewing with the Pars fans being escorted across the pitch to the Terregles Street end and the crowd disturbances making headline news in the Sunday Post!

Never been able to find a video of the 6-1 game in 2011. I'm sure that was only a week or two before the decider against the wee team. David Graham jumping into the net at one of the last goals was a satisfying sight.

The week before, Ruktiewicz got sent off while it was 2-0? And was then in turn suspended for the Raith game. Glorious games.

It was only 1-0 when he was sent off, just before half time. Went 2-0 up early in the second half before Harris scored a free kick to bring it back to 2-1. I remember the roar when the second and third goals went in that day, there was an intensity ot them that I hadn't heard for quite a while. It increased slightly after the two goals the following week!

There can't be any Queens fans who appreciate seeing footage from 88/89. I'm sure they had an utterly woeful points total that year and had a points deduction for something as well; possibly their final tally that year is rivalled only by Dumbarton in 95/96?

For some reason I'm quite looking forward to a mundane last day that will mark the end of a season that has been reasonably satisfactory. I didn't make it to the game in December, so the last time I was there would be the day of the fantastic Bob Harris OG. It really is a while since we finished a season on neither a massive high or massive low - 2010 would have been the last time.

According to the BBC match report of the 6-1 game, the attendance was 3255. That seems ridiculously low for a team within touching distance of the title, especially considering Saturday's meaningless game against Morton attracted a larger crowd (3339).

Does that speak more for the club and their hard work in getting more people through the gates or just an increased interest in the Scottish game in general?

I dont think we've ever had a points deduction. The 12 points that season were all we deserved <_<

Are you maybe getting confused with Hamiltons points deduction that kept Queens up? That was in 2000

We had 2 points deducted in 88/89 for fielding an ineligible player in a game we lost. Think he had come back from Australia or something and there was some kind of arse up over his registration.

We did get a two point deduction in 1988/89 for playing Jim McBride without international clearance while he was home for a while from Australia where he had moved at the end of the previous season. We finished with 10 points.

Edited to add: We lost the game he played in anyway!

I stand corrected. Unlike Wikipedia which shows 12 points <_<

Sorry, Socks

I'm sure we played Queens on the last game of the season before, Loy could've scored a hat trick and I think it would've been Dobbies last game, glorious sunny day and we won 4-0

Come to think of it I think we've played them last twice, another 4-0 win before they played Rangers in the cup final.

You'd think that's something a Queens fan would actually know tbh.

For clarity, unlike Queens, we've never had a points deduction.

We've never had to replay a cup match for fielding a suspended player in it though. What's your point?

Edited to add: And you were deducted 15 points for going into Admin. Am I being whooshed here?  :unsure2:

What, that we'd had a meaningless 2 point deduction nearly 30 years ago in one of our worst ever seasons that I didnt even see?

Can you feel my shame?

No, Dunfermline have never had a points deduction but you were one of a clutch of clubs who went through administration and prompted the now mandatory points deduction for that, so thanks. Personally, I dont think its fair you got away without having points deduct for admin - a retrospective 6 points off this season should be sufficient punishment

They DID get a 15 point deduction for going into admin in 2013. I think he's trying a whoosh.
