ProudtobeViolet Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Towards the end of June 2017, two Broughty Ferry-based Dundee Violet supporters decided to create an unofficial website; the club, at the time of writing, still doesn’t have an official site although one is currently being produced. The unofficial site – www.dundeeviolet.com - was launched last Saturday to coincide with the first round of East of Scotland Junior matches. The site is still very much at the embryonic stage but it is intended to add pages (mostly of historic nature) in the coming weeks and months. During the research prior to the supporters’ site launch it was discovered that Violet were not formed in 1883, as had always been thought, but in fact were founded on Friday 8 February 1884. As a result the associated Facebook page is called Since 1884 Dundee Violet Football Club. The two supporters behind the new site also decided it should have a bit of a campaigning edge to it – and the main thrust of this (almost) radical fervour is to convince a club called Violet that it should always play in violet – and not in various combinations of blue and white which it certainly has in recent years – hence the Twitter account is called Proud to be Violet @proud_violet It’s early days, and the site is far from the finished article, but we hope you can spare a minute to look at least part of the Violet supporters’ new online presence..
kilsyth ranger Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Well done guys , anyone trying to actively promote there local junior club deserves massive credit , keep up the good work [emoji106]
Den Spark Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Always thought it a bit strange that they never played in a violet strip. Been royal blue for as long as I remember.
Shanner Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 should play in violet. Hunners of blue teams as it is.
ProudtobeViolet Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 Thanks guys. The point about the uniqueness of a violet strip and the proliferation of blue strips is the reasoning behind the suggestion. Apparently Violet have in the past - many moons ago - played in violet but the cost of purchasing violet kit was given as the reason for the switch. We don't think that's the case any more - and to paraphrase the current White House incumbent - "Make Violet Violet Again!"
Glenconner Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Good on the DV folks. About 30 odd years ago Lord Watson of ??? (the ex MP that tried to burn the hotel down) wrote a fascinating history of Junior football on Tayside. Pity i never held on to it.
locheedfcno1 Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Keep up the good work. Decent set up at the violet
SweeperDee Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 My grandad was a member of the Violet committee for a long time until ill health prevented him from doing so; you'll always have a fan and supporter in me. [emoji173]️
