IIRC, he was back-up to Kenny Arthur (who is our goalkeeping coach) and left after one season. His Wikipedia page says that he made 230 appearances, mostly at Livi and Morton, in a 15 year career. Doesn't really say much though. Loads of good coaches didn't have the best playing careers. Look at some of the coaches that big sides have and you'll see quite a few names who haven't come near top tier football.
