I took Pep's advice and googled it;

"The sweeper (or libero) is a more versatile centre-back who "sweeps up" the ball if an opponent manages to breach the defensive line. This position is rather more fluid than that of other defenders who man-mark their designated opponents."

How can you be the guy who sweeps up when a defensive line is breached if you're playing in front of them?

You don't know what you're talking about.

A sweeper is just someone who plays as part of a defensive line with no marking duties, always spare.  Can be in front or behind or both depending on phase of play.  Look at sammer for Dortmund.

Uh huh, but he’s a sweeper behind the defence and a anchor/holding midfielder in front of it. Simple stuff really.

ETA: Personally always thought Sammer was more of a centre half in a back four.

I really don't want to read the entirety of a wikipedia entry on sweepers, thanks for asking.

Robertson = stand out in a team top end of the PL and in the Champions League Final

Tierney = stand out in the SPL and did well in a team papped out of Europe with some absolute pumpings off the top teams

Tierney has the potential to be as good if not better than Robertson but until he leaves Celtic and proves it then you cannot argue he is better.  Playing against diddys in the SPL will not help him (although he has looked decent when in CL).
