Eednud
Named New Caledonia by Captain James Cook because it reminded him of Scotland the people of Nouvelle Calédonie are voting for independence from France today. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-11-04/new-caledonians-head-to-the-polls-to-vote-on-referendum/10463822

Arabdownunder
Wierd place with a clear racial divide. Some bits are like being in the South of France; beautiful people driving about in Citroens, other parts really shitty third world style.

Highland Capital
I see there're plans in the works to have an independence referendum again in 2020 and then another in 2022. That'd never catch on here!
Kejan
New Caledonia just like old Caledonia. Seems very much like most of the natives voted for independence and the white settlers didn't.

Highland Capital
Didn't the France team that won the World Cup in 1998 have a New Caledonian in it? I see they're now Fifa members in their own right (and recently drew 1-1 with Estonia!). harry94
They've already got two future referendums basically arranged...one in 2020 and another in 2022!

Highland Capital
I see they've voted No again in their second independence referendum (a second referendum?! *Shock! Horror!*). Yes has had a slight improvement this time though (Yes 46.7%, No 53.3% this time - in 2018 the result was Yes 43% No 57%). A third referendum is planned for 2022 apparently.
