Suggest that you check out the Scottish Courts website:- Dealing With a Deceased's Estate in Scotland (scotcourts.gov.uk) Loads of useful information there. Your local Sheriff Clerk can probably give you the names of a few local firms that regularly deal with applications for confirmation. Then shop around for the best deal. Thanks Dave, I'd assumed, wrongly it appears, that the Sheriff's Office dealt with the Confirmation - are you saying that I will need to contact a third party? Deanburn Dave
Ned, If it is a small estate the Sheriff Clerk completes the form for you. It is then processed by the Sheriff Clerk who issues confirmation** . If its a large estate the solicitor completes the form and sends it to the Sheriff Clerk to be checked, processed and confirmation** is issued. **the confirmation is basically a copy of the form with a Grant page signed by the Sheriff Clerk which allows the executor to uplift all the items listed in the inventory of the estate.
