I’d be happy with MacDonald and Watson but we’d be mental not to bring him in if he becomes available. Adding another quality player can never be a bad thing.

I agree on the basis that he wouldn't be using up a remaining wage for a centre-back. I know there's suggestions Megwa can play there but there were opportunities last season to play him there when Ballantyne was fit, particularly when we went to a back 3 yet McCabe opted to put Ballantyne as a centre-back instead of Megwa, which doesn't suggest McCabe thinks much of him there, especially if we play a back 4 where it's even more of a traditional centre-back role and not a kind of hybrid one in a back 3.

That flag that was hung up yesterday was an absolute embarrassment to the club, the town and its people. What a stupid message to push at a football game.

I’ll take a wild guess and assume that the people who were vocal about David Linden becoming a fan/club committee member due to his involvement in politics were the same people who were behind that flag yesterday.  They’re just too mutant to acknowledge the hypocrisy.

No wonder our fan base get such a hard time when we have literal brainless scum pedalling their racist agendas at our games.

Haven't posted on here in a while but came on to see what the McCabe to Raith chat would be . However, I am actually so happy to see the distain for the flag yesterday,  absolutely sickening and genuinely made my skin crawl. Honestly get these idiots so far away from this club, there's lots we don't get right but we are trying to move in the right direction.

I don't see that way at all, Megwa and Hancock were flying at that point and in my mind the best 2 wing backs in the league so perhaps it was simply he didn't want to tinker with them.

There are other considerations such as the quality of the "imminent" centre back and how far that deal is down the road and will a loaned Megwa hamper the development of Macdonald. Could we buy him, I know someone said that Hibs were looking for funny money for him but he's in his last year of his contract and potentially getting loaned again therefore it doesn't appear he will getting a new contract although highly possible that the current Hibs Manager will last the season given their result today.

It could well be that and with Ballantyne's injuries and Megwa being recalled for a period there maybe weren't the opportunities that I thought for that. But I'd still maintain that I'd rather someone who is a bit more established, or perhaps specialist is the word, as he is an unknown there. If we can get both then brilliant.

If he's in the last year of his contract then I don't get why they would even bother loaning him out if they plan to release him. Either sell him or keep him around the first team and see if he has what it takes.

didnt get the chance to post yesterday, was too busy removing another cone from underneathone of the board members cars yesterday after the game, 3rd one in 2 weeks haha

scrappy and physical game which isnt what i was expecting from 2 teams who enjoy spells of passing football, could sorta tell Murray had told them to get in their face and dont give them a minutes peace, thought the referee lost the plot and the game after that scuffle on the touchline 10 minutes in, theres no need for it from both teams, its nice to see a wee bit of fight in the team, but come on...

thought Raith were quite poor going forward and before the game i was touting a 2-1 win for us, but once it got to half time it was probably destined for a 1-0 to either side and as the second half grinded away it was looking more and more likely that we would score, and from such an unlikely source as well, as per usual with Murrayball...panic stations the moment they go 1-0 down and just hoof it up the field for helpless knock ons that was so easily to deal with, it was like pish in the pool for us

obviously missing McGregor for atleast a few weeks now, probably wont be available till September..i think someone on this thread  said previously that they were hoping it wasnt another Ally Roy situation, scores a boat load in pre season, gets injured and scores 4 for the rest of the campaign...if we are to continue playing with 2 upfront to harass their defence and its quite clear that Wilson cant act alone up there, why not just play Cooper up there with him

as for the Megwa situation we'd be stupid not to try and get him back even just for a 6 month loan like Aiken's is, the reason why it worked so well last season is because you had 4 different versions of your RB and LB...a wing back...a full back, and their inverted counterparts...Hancock to me is a wing back, has got the pace, the power and the crossing ability to stroll forward...Megwa can do both but has better defensive capabilities than Hancock...so whenever Hancock went forward our back line essentially became a back 3 with Dycey, Watson and Megwa so even if we got countered on we had plenty of bodies back to cover...with McDonaald hes in the same boat as Hancock for me, but seems to still be able to defend pretty well, just needs to make sure hes not caught horrifically out of position like he was against Aberdeen, but glad he had nothing to face up against the shrivelled husk of what remains of Easton yesterday

i wont say too much on the flag situation, as what ive wanted to say has already been said, i do wish that folk who do bring flags in, regardless of what they say are checked at the gate before entering and if its deemed too political or offensive then its banned...could i just ask any Ayr or Airdrie fan who does see that f**king stupid flag on friday night to tear the flag down, would rather not see it on national television, as its just going to be used as more ammunition against our club that is so desperately trying to distance itself from the stupid b*****ds who ruined it in the 80s and 90s...thankfully i wasnt alive to see it then, and ill be damned sure i dont wanna see it now

The clubs just as much those 'stupid b*****ds' as it yours or anyone else's, no matter how pious you or others get, in fact those people gave everything when airdrieonians were in trouble. If your so 'dammed sure' why not take it up with one of those guys? They are highly visible within our support always have been.

So many people in the support now seem to have an idea of what an airdrie fan should be and that's like every other sanitised shit box club in the lower leagues, no thanks.

And to the poster somehow linking the flag to be aimed at David linden? Why? Guys a blood and soil nationalist moron, thankfully now an unemployed one.

This is a grim post. It's 2024, people go to the football because they want to see football. You do realise the vast majority of our fans are genuinely embarrassed by the fringe element of our support. Ones who when you say "take it up with them", won't be amenable to a rational chit chat. As we all know and as you knew when you typed it

It'd a grim post because you and others seem to think you decide who or what constitute airdrie fans, you don't. I believe your miles out as well, the 'Fringe element' as you put it are among our best known, hardest working and most loyal fans, that same.fringe element has been around for almost 50 years in whatever guise and is woven into the fabric of the club and the town.

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one, but people like you and other hand wringing arseholes dont get to decide who are airdrie fans or how they choose to behave.

Of course we don't, but just the same as you've labelled and name called multiple people and things in the last couple of posts, the same right should be extended to everyone? No? Is it one rule and one rule?

I think you're not really grasping what I mean by fringe element here. Let's be honest, it's a reference to the fringe nature of their views and actions. No one's discussing their sense of hard work or loyalty.

I think this would constitute a "hand wringer" accusation being levelled at me for the first time in near 20 years on this site...

On a serious note though, none of this has really disproven the "unapproachable entrenched views" point.

You don't know me or my thoughts on the flag from Adam, my point is that you don't have any right to decide who supports airdrie or in what fashion, but in the past 5 or so years, more people seek to think they are self appointed moral compasses for the whole support. Mind your own business and let others mind theirs, or go and challenge them.

Thanks for the advice, but my "moral compass" isn't going to let me agree in a two sided debate where one side may have a devil may care attitude to football.violence and right wing sentiments.

Guys a blood and soil nationalist

Having known him a long time he's really not, he has supported Airdrie all his life and has a genuine love for the club. Just as you dont want others defining what it is to be an Airdrie fan you can't then attack others in the same way.

As an aside, this flag chat is boring, it's like being back on the Stomp 20 years ago. People want to take flags to a game fine, saltire / union jack / bulgaria flag, no problem but political slogans should be left out of the ground.

No one's asking you ti agree or disagree, just questioning why you and others seem to think you are the bearing conscious of the club.

This pish feels as though I'm reading reddit or twitter. Wish folks could keep their politics out of football rather than try to somehow co-opt a club's identity to their point of view (in either direction) - haven't we had enough of that via a lifetime of this garbage from the glasgow pair?

What happened to the centre back we were meant to be getting?

Surely yous are doing the same by bringing that flag in? Why don’t you keep your politics out of it as airdrie clearly has fans all over the political spectrum.

You know fine well that lot would have an issue if there was a left wing political flag at the games.
