Larne, Coleraine and Crusaders all win 2-1 away from home. Two wins from two for Coleraine (and two defeats from two for Ballymena).

Thought Larne were the better team in an enjoyable game. Nervy last 10 minutes for them after the Glens pulled one back.

Dungannon Swifts couldn't repeat their comeback feat against Linfield, going down 3-2 after pulling things back right before additiinal time.

Cliftonville see off Glenavon 3-0 at Solitude.

Newry City - again down to 10 men - win this time, 2-0 at Taylors Avenue.

Coleraine pull their usual stunt after a bright start by going down to 10 men and losing at Carrick. All the other teams with Championship aspirations win.

It's 50 years since the Gibson Cup went to the Ballycastle Road Showgrounds and it will be another 50 years with results like that.

Linfield v Glenavon https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/66517106

Crusaders v Swifts https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/66517241

Only 2/3 games played, so won't bother with the table, although Larne are top and Glenavon are bottom.

Early days for everyone, but nobody likes to lose games we see as winnable. Carrick have made some good looking signings this season, and Coleraine won't be the last team to drop points at Taylor's. It's very disheartening for the provincial clubs, when everything looks centred around Belfast (Larne?) I seen Coleraine win the Irish Cup mid sixties against Glenavon (I had an uncle played for Glenavon) but my abiding memory is of Des Dickson terrorising Crusaders defences. Whilst I didn't see too many games in the seventies (I played sport) I do remember them as halcyon days for Coleraine.  Kearney looked like the Messiah at a time, perhaps that's passed. I'm in Scotland at the moment (Airdrie was pretty poor) so not getting to Seaview, but life looks rosier on the Shore Rd than the Ballycastle Rd. At the minute..

And has been for a considerable period of time.

As you say, early days, but so frustrating following Coleraine (even if I no longer get to matches), Jim Platt should really have won at least 1 Irish League title, and they never consolidated on their league title success (other than winning the cup another couple of times after the title).

Linfield win at Ballymena to go top.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66550811

Everyone else plays today, except Glentoran and Crusaders, which is postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Coleraine v Larne, pick of the bunch. The Bannsiders can't afford to lose this one, not hopeful, though.

Be interesting to see how Carrick get on at Solitude.

Some result at Seaview, on the day Carrick get a major investment. Disappointed I missed that. (considering the crap I'm watching here) Kennedy's a great player and his volley last night was superb. Pity the Reds couldn't spike the Blues guns. That guy Cooper is another classy footballer.

Three games last night.

Glentoran win 2-0 at the Warden Street Showgrounds to go fourth, and leave Ballymena, who were down to 10 men, rooted to the bottom with 0 from 5.

Glenavon come back from 2 down at Lakeview to draw with Loughgall and get their first point of the season.

Coleraine also blow a 2 goal lead in the last 7 minutes at Stangmore Park to draw 2-2 with the Swifts, who were down to 10 men. That's 7 points Coleraine have dropped already, 5 against Carrick and Dungannon who are ninth and tenth respectively and are already 4 points off the pace having played a game more. No Gibson Cup this year either, then.

Cliftonville and Larne serve up an entertaining clash in the live match, 1-1 at Solitude.

And Crusaders waltz to victory at the Newry Showgrounds, 4-0.

What on earth is happening with Linfield's defence. Some absolute comedy goals given away to Carrick who look an unpredictable maverick side, capable of being excellent and terrible within the same game.

Early days but Crusaders look like they will push Linfield hard this season and Glentoran continue to get stronger.

No idea what's happened at Ballymena but they've been an absolute shambles in the games I've seen so far and clearly not a happy camp. I'm sure Glenavon will pick up after an unusually slow start for them. Newry looked quite appalling against Crusaders, too- miles off it. Would expect Newry, Dungannon, Ballymenato be the three strugglers this season.

Annagh United the early pace setters in the Championship ahead of Newington YC. The third tier intermediate kicked off with Limavady jitting 9 past hapless Banbridge Town. Sad to see Warrenpoint down there, always liked them as a club and the manager Barry Gray. Would expect them to be favourites to return to the second tier ASAP.

Always enjoy the NI league and this season looks like it will be a decent one across the divisions.

1/ I think the Crues will be hard to stop, Stephen Baxter knows his stuff and seems to have put a strong squad together.

2/ Quite happy to see Ballymena struggle, tbh, and not surprised, I don't think David Jeffrey left them in great shape, although having said that I don't think they'd be in such disarray if he were still there.

3/ It seems to be you either have a strong Newry or a strong Warrenpoint, but not both, i think you may have commented on that yourself.

Yeah someone made that point in one of the Belfast papers a while ago. Wouldn't surprise me to see them both in the second tier next season.

We shall see. Probably wait until I'm dead before they win it...

Meanwhile, last night at the Oval Glentoran drew 2-2 with Crusaders in an action packed match.

Plenty of talking points last night. While I should be happy enough with a point, I came out of it feeling hard done by. Gurntoran looked Ok and had plenty of possession but I felt we had the winning of it. Not that I'm biased in any way.

When Crusaders were voting for outside investment, I was in a very small minority who voted against. Despite my admiration for, and trust in our board I didn't think it was in the club's best interests. My thoughts at that time were, I'd rather watch my team playing the Welders than someone else's playing Fulham. I like Coleraine and wish them well, but I'm cynical about this outside interest in the Irish League. There's no xenophobia involved here.

Carrick v Dungannon last night, wasn't much of a game, to be honest, but you couldn't fault the players for lack of effort. Both sides had dominant spells, but Carrick took the points with a last minute penalty. No stoppage time heroics from the Swifts this week, a draw might have been fairer. Swifts still waiting for their first win.
