‘Trent’ very very lucky.  I think the ref has been kind that he knows he wouldn’t have probably just warned him last year about throwing the ball back on.

That's not the point, though.

It's his job to apply the laws. Not cautioning TAA for that foul is a complete bottle job.

The first Trent booking is ridiculous tbh, and is a referee over emphasising the new rules. He doesn’t remotely throw the ball away, he throws it back on to the pitch after it rolls towards him.

Agree, and this always seems to happen.

But... it's no excuse for bottling it.

Didn't think it was worth a booking tbh. Gordon was not getting the ball after he knocked it down the line. There was another Liverpool player there.

That type of foul is a booking every time.

Surely they are to the same effect tho? Throwing the ball onto the pitch prevents a quick throw as much as kicking the ball away.

As for over emphasis, yeah anytime there’s a rule change that happens early season, the refs are making a point which they then relax on as the season goes and the message the rule change was trying to make begins to get understood, right or wrong players should be ready for that.

I don’t disagree, which is why I think he was lucky.
