"just because it looks easy, don't mean it is"

Yer man David Simon is at it again, this time in New York not Baltimore as he showcases the 70's and 80's prostitution, porn and drug scenes.

"God's a motherfucker isn't He ?"

Critically acclaimed Netflix drama as Jason Bateman and Lara Linney are tangled up with the Cartel and move to the scenic Ozarks in Missouri, where they bump into that annoying lassie from the George Clooney Nespresso adverts.

"you unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension..."

Hugely influential throughout the years, the various Fantasy, Sci fi, Dystopia, Horror, Supernatural and Psychological short stories you experience when entering the Twilight Zone have been parodied and troped countless times.

The quintessential adolescent, coming of age British comedy here as Neil, Simon, Jay and Will go through the trials and tribulations of teenage life in suburbia.

The Handmaid's Tale (2017-)

HT.thumb.jpg.0561ae954d75b9d685f6ad7d33e69418.jpg

"Blessed be the fruit"

Adapted from Margaret Atwood's novel, a rather depressing dystopian future sees ritualised rape and women kept as slaves under a theocratic regime in a post 2nd civil war America.

"Let's be careful out there"

Classic American cop show that has won record amounts of awards, with some of those records still standing today. I've never seen any of it tbh, maybe the Yank version of The Bill ?

Planet Earth (2006)

"roar"

The gold standard of nature documentaries here with national treasure Sir Davie Attenborough narrating for the BBC as he has done for what seems like centuries now. I'd imagine he's on a few Dead Pool lists tbh.

Prison Break (2005-2017)

"I choose to have faith, because without that, I have nothing"

All the US prison stereotypes here with a wrongfully convicted family member, Hispanic petty thief, scary black dude, racist Hillbilly nonce, dumb redneck guard and a sexy and conflicted prison nurse.

i enjoyed the first couple of seasons of this, but felt it jumped the shark after that.

"it's what they call in the bible, ' a clusterfuck of epic proportions'"

Not a show about the creepy celtic female mythical monsters, but a crook who assumes the identity of a dead sheriff in small town USA.

"we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Apart from pain. And maybe humiliation and obviously death. But apart from fear, pain, humiliation..."

Another sci-fi / space series, but comedy this time as the 4 lads embark on a series of misadventures. I think this definitely falls into the cult classic department.

It's a Sin (2021)

3000(1).thumb.jpg.00b7d9727ca1a35d870a88aa31dd952f.jpg

"because that's what shame does... it makes him think he deserves it"

Russell T Davies' critically acclaimed drama charting the gay community throughout the 1980's and the AIDS epidemic. This is at times funny, deadly serious, uplifting and heartbreaking ( and pretty graphic too IIRC )

"your neck is just as red as mine"

A modern, or neo-western series set in the Appalachians, based on the Elmore Leonard stories. Timothy Olyphant (always looks good in a hat) and Walton Goggins (excellent as per usual) star.

A 2nd lot of Attenborough with his classic Life on Earth, the one where he's groomed by the gorillas (steady) which was voted ahead of Di and Charlie's wedding in the all time greatest TV moments.

The Tube (1982-1987)

"welcome to The Tube"

Jools Holland (before he did his Hootenanny) Paula Yates (before she married Michael Hutchence, took drugs and died) and Muriel Gray (before she started burning down buildings) presented the music show The Tube.

This was filmed in Newcastle and it's still fondly remembered there. I was in Geordieland a few months back and there was a whole wee section in the museum about it.
