Yellow Submarine vs. The Doc's Dark Blues, Saturday 27th January

Recommended Posts

McCowan bumped someone off the ball at the other end and play was waved on. Same thing there and it’s a foul. Ref has been wildly inconsistent. No idea who he is either.

We’ve been decent considering the lineup. But our games have a habit of changing in the second half. Hopefully we keep the heid.

Hopefully we have better game management today.

I literally cannot believe the ref didn't even go to the monitor, just unreal.

I don’t know how VaR works. Is it the case that as soon as VAR said inside box it had to be a penalty since we got a free kick for a shove(?)?

overall, think we’re a bit unlucky to have gone behind but only ourselves to blame for that shite penalty. made a few other decent openings. Still hopeful we’ll get something.

Should've left Brandon and Sangare in as the full backs. Poor error by Penrice for the Dundee goal.

MacKay and Bradley are both frenetic players who keep their touches minimal, instead looking to shoot or cross early. Nouble and Yengi slow things down and dribble. I'd rather have seen one of each type as the wide men. MacKay on the right has been good but Nouble or Yengi should've started rather than Bradley.

We've missed Pittman's drive and pressing. His absence has also moved Stephen Kelly central when he was great on the left last week.

The rule is that unless you have a specialist elsewhere in the team, you put your striker on penalties. That Anderson missed against Killie doesn't matter, he's the striker and the rest of the team are shite at them. He should've taken that penalty.

Also loved the Livi fan shouting “just give us the free kick!” when it was being reviewed as he obviously knew you would miss.

We had the worst penalty record in Europe last season. Scoring something like 17%. It’s become a running thing

If VAR believed it was in the box, there should have been a second check to determine if it was a foul, like any other penalty that’s given. At that point the referee should have gone to the monitor, established no foul, and restarted with a Dundee drop ball in the box.

I’m not really sure that’s how that works. I’d imagine part of the discussion with the ref is if he’s 100% confident it’s a foul, and if so it becomes an objective fact whether it’s inside the box or not and therefore no need to go to the monitor.

Exposes another flaw of VAR where the bar for a penalty is realistically higher, even if not in the law, so that may be a foul elsewhere but definitely shouldn’t be a penalty.

Wow. That's bad.

We’d have probably been in Europe last season if we scored at least 60% of them :D Missed top 6 on the final day.

We wouldn’t be bottom if we could score them either, but alas we cannot

Thinking about it more if VAR decides it in the box there’s no decision other than a penalty. No scenario where Dundee end up with a free kick for example because there wasn’t a foul against us. I think the ref has forced the hand of VAR by giving the free kick.

Edited to say nah im an idiot that’s how var works most of the time.
