Noting of course that, when asked further up the thread...do they return it to Westminster, or carry it over, my reply was.. 'Neither' ..but nice try. Also nice to discover that the Humza is in fact, a financial wizard, who has the Scottish economy booming, local Councils awash with funding, and is steaming towards presumably 40 plus seats at the GE. Good Times.

Why not post some proof then. Let me provide some "facts" for you to digest If a Scottish taxpayer earning £28000 has the standard personal allowance, he will pay no tax on the first £12570 In 2023/24, he would then pay income tax as follows: £12,570 to £14,732 Starter rate (19%) = £410.78 £14,733 to £25,688 Scottish basic rate (20%) = £2191.20 £25,688 to £28,000 Intermediate rate (21%) = £485.52 Total income tax payable on £28,000 in 2023/24 = £3087.50 In 2024/25, he would then pay as follows: £12,570 to £14,876 Starter rate (19%) = £438.14 £14,876 to £26,561 Scottish basic rate (20%) = £2337.00 £26,561 to £28,000 Intermediate rate (21%) = £302.19 Total income tax payable on £28,000 in 2024/25 = £3077.33 21 hours ago, Jedi2 said: Why do they {the SNP} need the recent tax hikes? With the now 6 bands of taxation in Scotland, and increase for lower earners. Last time I looked, £3077.33 was less than £3087.50. Accordingly, our hypothetical £28,000 earner is paying less tax in 2024/25 than he was in 2023/24. Paying less tax is not an "increase" That;s how to use "facts" to prove a point. -
Jedi2
2 questions for you... Is £28,000 a 'high earner'? Does someone making £28,000 pay more tax in Scotland than any other part of the UK? Edited February 6 by Jedi2

I hadn’t (probably as Twitter can’t location ping me to Scotland) but it did make me think of you.

Does someone making £28,000 pay more tax in Scotland than any other part of the UK? Stop shifting the goalposts. You specifically stated that the SNP had raised taxes on lower earners. I've provided figures to show that the most recent budget reduced the amount of income tax to be paid by Scottish taxpayers earning £15,000 & £28,000 in 2024/25. Quite simply, you lied. The median salary in Scotland was £35,518 in November 2023, so £28,000 is not a high earner today. He would still pay less tax on £28,000 in 2024/25 than he did in 2023/24 though, so I have no idea what point you are trying to make. According to The Times tax calculator, https://www.thetimes.co.uk/money-mentor/income-tax-calculator/, an English/Welsh/NI taxpayer would pay £3086 per year in Income Tax in 2024.25. That's £9 more than the £3077 that a Scottish taxpayer would pay. You really are pretty shit at this, aren't you Edited February 6 by lichtgilphead Typo & clarifying tax year referred to

Jedi2
You accused me of posting that the SNP sent their overspend to Westminster, when in answer to the question if they did so, the reply was 'neither'. 'Serious' political commentators across mainstream media consistently point to Scotland being the highest taxed area of the UK, which you deny.

No. I asked you whether the SNP sent their underspend to Westminster, like Labour used to. You said that they didn't. That was my entire f*cking point in the first place. Your "neither" answer referred to two options, one of which was true (hint: it wasn't the "return to London" option). The SNP retained the money to spend in future accounting periods. Shall I use shorter, easier words in future? 2) I have never denied that some Scottish taxpayers pay more than E, W & NI taxpayers. I pay more than my equivalent taxpayer in England. Please stop lying about what I said. However, you specifically framed the debate in terms of "lower earners" and specified £28.000. Anyone in Scotland earning under around £28,800 in 2024/25 will pay less tax than someone on the same salary in rUK Edited February 7 by lichtgilphead
