Momentum should be attacking the leadership for abandoning the pledges which got them elected especially when they’re popular and good policies and even more so when we’re years away from Labour’s poll lead actually meaning anything.

I always wonder where YouGov find all these swing voters. Every election in Europe and the USA is basically gridlocked and defined by turnout but YouGov manage to find relatively large numbers of swing voters on a regular basis.

Reading the Wiki entry for MPs defecting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_British_politicians_who_have_changed_party_affiliation#1987–1992_Parliament

No-one has really defected to the Conservative Party sinced Reg Prentice in 1977.  Some amazing defection action in 2019 with a load of Labour MPs going to Change UK, then to Independent, then to The Independents.

Some interesting reasons for defections.

He left in 99, he supported repealing Section 28 so William Hague sacked him.

His daughter is the food blogger and ‘influencer’ Ella Woodward, aka Deliciously Ella.

A lot is made of the tensions between the Westminster Tories and their Scottish Brethren but I couldn't help thinking yesterday that the defecting MP's decision to wear a vivid union flag face mask might not have played tremendously well up here for a party desperate to restore its position in Scotland
