Terry Brown (ex-Aldershot) is the new manager.

General feeling is that this is a very good appointment, think they're pretty pleased. And he's full-time.

The sensible choice, I think we'd all have loved to see an Earle/Holdsworth management team in place, but their lack of managerial experience could have hindered the club, and it could have turned sour (a Dalziel at Raith situation maybe)

People can say what they like about MK Dons but they will soon have a top stadium and currently have a top manager. They'll be in League 1 sooner or later, possibly Championship.

Milton Keynes is a huge town and worth of a Football League Club. Wimbledon should never have been elected in the first place as London was already awash with clubs. Plus Plough Lane was a shithole of the highest order.

Fair play to the managers and players who helped bring huge success to Wimbledon. I don't grudge them that, much like I applaud what Meadowbank achieved in the Scottish game. But, they too, like Wimbledon, were a bit lucky to be invited to the party.

Comparisons with Scotland don't work here.

Unlike Scotland, English footie has a pyramid structure right from the bottom. If Milton Keynes were "worth" a football league club, their should have been enough interest in their local non-league team to start punshing them up that pyramid. There wasn't and they didn't.

As for Wimbledon, their election to the football league was on merit, and considering they were in the top division within a dozen years it's difficult to argue with the decision to admit them, regardless of what has happened since then.

They've come a long way since this thread. Fourteen years, six promotions. One more promotion would get them back to where they had been, but in the meantime they could potentially finish above the club who stole their league place as early as next season.

Been a Womble since season 82-83 when they finished in front of Hull in the 4th division, my mate supported Luton so i chose Wimbledon, what a few decades it's been, culminating in today's amazing victory.

Everytime we go up a league i worry if we are pushing too fast, then i think back to the 80's and think why not.

It will be amazing to play the Plastic Franchise who are now in decline and i hope we can build and survive this next season.

Interesting topic looking back at it 9 years later.

I was at the Bromley playoff game, although I was there as a Bromley supporter, and am also now good friends with Dave Anderson, the 'Irish tool' mentioned earlier.

It is interesting that most people want Wimbledon to move back to Plough Lane, but the hypocrisy of them doing so is that they have done a deal with a property company to deliberately run down the last greyhound track with a London postcode, putting hundreds of people out of a job, before building a football stadium on top of it. Hopefully Sadiq Khan sees sense and correctly blocks the AFC Wimbledon proposal, which does not confirm with the local area plan, and allows the Paschal Taggart greyhound stadium redevelopment to go ahead instead.

What a lot of rubbish. Firstly, there is a greyhound racing track at Romford which is in the London postal area. Also, the greyhound stadium at Plough Lane was was run down long before AFC Wimbledon got involved with the developer and prepared robust proposals for a new stadium and 600 houses on the site. The site is designated for 'Sporting Intensification' in Merton's Local Plan and the plans put forward by AFC Wimbledon and the local squash club most certainly do meet the local area plan. That is why Merton Council's Planning Committee unanimously approved the proposals some months ago. It has only been held up due to political posturing by outgoing London Mayor, Boris Johnson, but that will be rescindeded when the new mayor looks again at the plans in the next couple of months. All this before saying how barbaric and backward greyhound racing actually is these days.

Have you ever met Adebayo Akinfenwa? I have and he is a modest and very engaging man who has used the most of his talents and abilities. He is a really great guy who first and foremost is a Christian family man who makes time for everyone he meets. Dave Anderson? That will be the ex-Wimbledon manager who attended the play-off final yesterday mingling with fans and players in a pub in Wembley before the game. If you actually are a friend of DA, you will know that he fully backs Wimbledon's plans to move back to Wimbledon.

Quite easy to spot the 'tool' and 'bellend' on this thread.

No it’s not, it’s in the RM7 postal area. Wimbledon is the only greyhound track remaining with a London postcode.

No it wasn’t. The facilities in the stadium were fine a few years ago, not brilliant but fine, the decline since Galliard got involved has been staggering.

I wouldn’t be sure of that. A lot of the negative impact and objection to the football stadium was in Tooting, Sadiq Khan’s former constituency, it was well known that Sadiq is much less likely to approve than Boris. You are right that it was posturing from Boris, he wanted to hand the decision to someone else. It may still be approved but it’s much less likely to be approved under the current mayor than either the former mayor or at a LA level. The comment about greyhound racing as a sport isn’t even worthy of a response.

Never met him, he came across in his post match interview as a very selfish person. He seemed unable to look at the interviewer and was focussed on staring down the camera, talking about himself, and admitting that he reneged on a promise for Callum Kennedy to take the penalty. It was also notable that upon scoring the penalty very few team-mates ran to congratulate him. He did not give the impression of being the most team-orientated player.

I know Dave fully backs the stadium plans, and I know he was there yesterday. We were discussing it over a pint about 10 days ago.

The AFC Wimbledon love-in is not as one-sided as a lot of people think. There is no doubt that the model is to be admired, but there are certain things that have happened, and behaviour that has occurred, over the last 14 years that are swept under the carpet in a kind of ‘we lost our club we can do what we like’ attitude.

Romford Dog track is in the London Borough of Havering in East London the same way that Wimbleon track is in SW17 in the London Borough of Merton in South West London. You can talk the semantics and postcodes but they are BOTH in London. Neither are in central London. Hardly surprising that the other dog tracks in London have closed with the decline of dog racing and property prices.

The Plough Lane dog track has lacked investment for a long time. It may well have been neglected a lot more recently but there have been issues for many years. The HSE have had to get involved and they were the subject of a BBC panorama undercover programme. Google is your friend if you don't believe me. The attendances are a couple of hundred at best except for the very big meetings a couple of times a year. Dog racing is in decline and basically exists for the gambling industry. It's a cruel pastime as many dogs are destroyed when they can no longer race.

The main opposition came from the Wandsworth Tories living close to the site rather than From Tooting. Sadiq Khan in much less worried about local opinion anyway now he is mayor of London and is already on record as saying that he will make a decision for the whole of London. He is also under more pressure to approve it now Wimbledon are in League 1 and desperately need a new stadium fit for purpose. It doesn't matter anyway. The London Borough of Merton planning committee unamimously backed it as did the mayors planners. If Khan turns it down, it will go to a judicial review in a specialist planning court and will go through and be passed similar to what happened with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Akinfenwa is being released by Wimbledon. That was why he wanted to take the penalty. His parting shot (so to speak) for the fans. Callum Kennedy is the recognised penalty take and is also being released and wanted to take it for his father who passed away a few months ago. I have some sympathy for that but Akinfenwa apologised afterwards both in private and publically and we move on. Akinfenwa is a self-publicist and now his football career is in its twilight is more interested in his beast mode brand and future medial career. He's a popular guy with both his team mates and the fans. You only need to see how his appearance off the bench on Monday lifted both the team and fans. He's a nightmare to defend against especially for a tiring defence who have had to deal with Tom Elliott and Lyle Taylor. Good luck to him - playing for AFC Wimbledon has been mutually beneficial to both him and the club. He couldn't play at L1 level anyway.

I'm past caring about AFC Wimbledon love-ins. Enough people have respect and admiration for what the club/fans have achieved. You sound like the usual non-league bore who has a chip on their shoulder.

Not a lot to be fair. Just sticking up for him as a decent human being despite being a bit brash and loud with his whole beast mode thing.

Fair play. Cause Christians have a spotless record as decent pillars of humanity.
