What he puts here is useful analysis on why exactly Israel did this now (its a fairly safe assumption it was Israel). Haniyeh was not a militant. He was leader of the political wing of Hamas and therefore very much "above ground" and visible. That means Israel could've assassinated him in this manner at any time but they chose this particular moment. I don't recall seeing mentions of a 'signal from Kamla Harris'...., though the US has been studiously very quiet recently. What I see is a country and society that is rotting from within, and very publically.

You're right, I don't know why Parsi has suggested that Harris will be more lenient than Biden ("not as unforgiving").
Theroadlesstravelled
Netanyahu barbecued Haniyeh so he can finish the war in Gaza before the November elections. Harris won't stand up to the pro-Israel lobby and not a single protestor will give a f**k about a war with Iran or Lebanon in 2025.
Silvio Tattiescone
Seems it wasn't an airstrike that killed the Hamas guy, it was a bomb smuggled into his room months ago. Went off at 2am killing him and his bodyguard. https://www.timesofisrael.com/nyt-haniyeh-was-killed-by-explosive-smuggled-into-tehran-guesthouse-two-months-ago/

Why wait 2 months if not to stop any suggestions of a cease fire.

Or they know the compound that he uses when he goes to Tehran, they know the room he usually has, they just had to wait until his next visit. How often does he go to Tehran from Qatar? If it had been a missile strike then yes, they might have been able to hit him any time he left Qatar but a pre-planted bomb says they had to wait for him. So not a deliberate attempt to stop a cease fire just now. -

The article read like he had been there a while but maybe you’re right and they have had to wait for him to rock up

Iran have made a contradictory claim. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg64642q0dxo (I've no idea personally which version of events is more likely to be accurate).
Silvio Tattiescone
Doubt we'll ever know. Both versions are massive screw-ups by Iranian security (on a par with the Yanks letting a kid run around on a roof before sadly missing Trump)
Freedom Farter
Update on this guy's "are we the baddies?" arc. He's realised burning children to death is bad. Another milestone reached.

Granny Danger
This man is a minister in the Israeli government that our government supports. Israeli minister says it may be ‘moral’ to starve 2 million Gazans, but ‘no one in the world would let us’ https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/06/middleeast/israeli-minister-smotrich-starve-gazans-intl/index.html

Theroadlesstravelled
Harris: “I mean, Israel has a right to go after the terrorists that are Hamas. But as I have said many, many times, they also have, I believe, an important responsibility to avoid civilian casualties,” Harris is fully in bed with the Israeli lobby. Pun intended. You can't be both pro-Harris and anti-Zionist. It's one or the other buddy.

Freedom Farter
The IDF has always used Palestinians as human shields. Israel finally moved to officially ban the practice in 2005: "The Israeli high court yesterday ruled that the army's long-standing practice of using Palestinian civilians as human shields in combat is illegal under international law" (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/oct/07/israel). These proclamations are made by Israel not to actually affect change, though, but rather just to try and ease international pressure. A sort of "look, look, we're taking it seriously, we've done this legal judgement on it, see?". Little changes in practice as there is no political will within Israel to enforce laws. At best, IDF soldiers get a "slap on the wrist" for using Palestinian children as human shields (https://www.hrw.org/news/2010/11/26/israel-soldiers-punishment-using-boy-human-shield-inadequate). Use of Palestinian civilians during the current Israeli rampage has reached new levels, both in Gaza (https://reliefweb.int/report/occupied-palestinian-territory/israeli-armys-use-palestinian-civilians-human-shields-has-been-documented-large-scale) and in West Bank (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/6/23/human-shielding-in-action-israeli-forces-strap-palestinian-man-to-jeep). This is to add to the IDF using schools and hospitals in Gaza as military bases then blowing them up after vacating them (https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-05-17/ty-article/israeli-army-appears-to-be-using-gaza-hospital-school-as-bases-washington-post-reports/0000018f-868c-d443-adef-9fcc60e20000). Anyway, A further specific use of Palestinian civilians as human shields has been uncovered today:
