  2. Next season regardless of what league we are in we will need about 9 new players.

    In my opinion that'd be:

Another keeper, initially thought McGlynn might just raid the loan market but I think he will look for competition for Thomson once fit, wouldn't rule out a 6 month loan deal too though.

A Right back, this is an absolute must, but who?  Watson may yet become that man but mibbies not yet.

A Left Back, I see Rory McKeown was at the game last night, now that'd be interesting.  Adam Eckersley will be released by St Mirren, looked decent for Forfar.

3 in Midfield,  Matthews and some (3?) others needed, Hendry, Forbes, Craigen, Connolly, Hilson, (Cranes best two performances for us have been further up the park, just saying)

2 Wingers, Flannigan is signed but another couple needed here Longridge and a loanee perhaps?

1 Striker, Nizzy and Vaughan with Bowie, Smith and Tate coming through but we'll need at least another one. Could the pantomime villain Higginbotham be that man?

Central defenders not required if we keep Bene, Muzza and McKay. Do that  and I think we'll be fine. McDaid could be good for bench cover if we lose one of that main 3.

Obviously the outcome of the next 4-10 days will dictate just what we can and can't afford, next season we might be forced into more of a part-time set up.

Not been on this for a while, apologies if anything has been said in this issue.

I was at the Avengers last night in Dunfermline Odeon. Around about 6-6.30pm I was chilling in Costa and I see Big Nat up the back having what looked like an very official looking meeting with 3 guys. Lasted about 20 mins when I was there. And I swear I heard one of the guys saying ‘is there much more players leaving’ Make of that as you will, believe me or not, just thought I would share

If there are half a dozen and more get released it’ll be neither unexpected nor unwarranted, in fact in some cases I’d welcome it.

  4. It's quite likely that John McGlynn  thought that with already having  Davo, Murray and Bene that once he brought in Crane that we'd be solid enough at the back.

He was very wrong! His biggest mistake was not rectifying that in January, yes the injury situation has been horrendous but that doesn't excuse bringing in the powder puff Barjonas or awarding a longer contract to the fairly ineffectual Flanagan neither of which have the ability to win the ball or hold their own in midfield. On the subject of midfield I'd say Gillespie has been disappointing too.

A poor midfield and a too easily overwhelmed defence has been the catalyst to why we are where we are.

To a degree I tend to agree with others that if Vaughan and Hendry had stayed fit and been causing opposition midfields problems we'd have leaked fewer goals.

Barjonas looked extremely sharp and his work rate is the best I’ve seen yet from him

I'd agree, a better performance upfront without a doubt but woefully complicit for their goal. I thought at the time it was Crane who'd allowed their player to rampage down our left and cross for the goal but the highlights show it was BJ. He had ample opportunities and a good few failed attempts to stop his man by fair means or foul and couldn't manage it.

Barjonas is decent on the ball (sometimes) but fairly weak when not in possession, he's certainly no Regan Hendry.

What a very different season this might have been but for two knee ligament injuries!

Edited to add regarding the reserves last night,

We thought we were in for a torrid time last night against Stirling Albion, especially when they went 1-0 up in less than a minute and nearly added a 2nd a couple of mins later.

Once the kids got into their stride though they looked unstoppable and only poor finishing kept it to 9!  In fact 7-3 at half time wouldn't have surprised anyone watching.

Jack Smith looked dangerous every time he got the ball, he's quick has a decent touch and the only reason he had a quieter 2nd half was they put 2 men on him every time he was in possession. Likewise Kieran Bowie who at 17 has massive potential a well taken hat trick and his 2nd was a real joy holding off a bigger centre half before blasting past the keeper. Stevenson took both his goals well as did Tait who slotted into the bottom corner from outside the box. The two trialists looked decent and it was no 14 who got on the scoresheet too, he replaced Smith who looked to be in a wee bit discomfort from a back problem.

Looks like Smith and McGlynn are rebuilding a decent team virtually from scratch after it being decimated by Smith and Cuthbert.

  6. I see Boaby Linn limped off at Station Park yesterday after an hour, some Smokies on their thread are sounding worried.

Be a real shame if one of the leagues outstanding players wasn't able to feature in their run-in.

I genuinely hope it's nothing too serious (ie just a minor niggle that keeps him out for the next 5 weeks or so).

Well that self imposed ban didn't last long.

You'll be back, your type cant stay away you're just like VT.

  8. It’s the hope that kills you right enough, I said ages ago the worsting thing that could happen Would be for Arbroath to partially collapse lading to another  Alloa on the last day scenario.

Build momentum and go on the type of run that so far has eluded us and anything can happen, I don’t see a total Smokie collapse though.

Easton came in at the same time as Locke tbf.

With the youth set up, it's really hard to judge. If players are good enough, then they step up. People shouted for ages for Osei to get a chance, and every game he came on he looked completely lost. Our most successful youth period came under Murray when he put the lads in gradually over time. Vaughan, Callachan, Matthews and Laidlaw all got time, but it was helped that in each season under Murray we generally weren't too close too relegation aside from maybe one season.

Yup I stand corrected on that one, Easton came in July 2016 and Mackie was already away to Hibs by then too.

My bad! I had it in my head that McKinnon brought Easton to the club but when I thought about it  it was Laurie that was Youth dev coach.

I remember going to games and saying that Osie has bags of pace but not a lot else, I preferred Court as he looked the more finished article.

Oaft someone who may actually see through this Easton love in. Someone like myself. He was in charge of a development team with a multitude of players in it who had first team experience along with a large squad of players to boot. IMO not one player has been brought through or developed by Easton that is anywhere near first team level. Further to this he had the only full time squad in a league where the rest of the clubs would be full of youngsters who were not getting a game for their part time clubs, which questions the quality of the opposition at times. emoji848.png

A trifle unfair, Court & Bell have both featured regularly for East Fife this term and Lewis McCann has even had 2 outings for the Pars 1st team.

More significantly Sean Mackie has played a few times for Hibs and is in the Scottish U21 squad. Also wotsis name thon ginger centre half we gave away for nothing to Sevco hasn't done too badly for himself either and both were in Eastons young side when McKinnon was manager.

Of our own players Easton also brought through Watson, McKay, Stevenson, Berry, Valentine and Jack all from a very early age and all of  whom saw their careers hit the buffers under Smith who wanted nothing to do with any of it or them.

I wouldn't put them on a pedestal as any sort of footballing gods but there's potential there as McKay showed (again) at Stranraer.

  11. I’d now be happy if we could just go on a good run of form. And finish a strong 2nd.

The worst thing (other than missing out on the play offs) would be if we miraculously got within touching distance of Arbroath only to fluff it on the final day....again.

The gaffer needs to do something drastic with the defence, it’s looking like the root of all our woes.

The boy is a local hero for us, I’ve never felt such sympathy for any player. From such high of the derby to this. Am I right in thinking he hasn’t had a full injury free season for the first team?

Side note: Before the new pitch was laid there is obviously concern for injury due to previous players being injured on them, but from what I can recall our pitch hasn’t caused any injuries has it?

If this is another ACL injury it will be the  3rd in recent times. Vaughans 1st was on the grass at Starks and Hendrys was on astro at Forfar.

I'm still not a fan of the plastic but it (ours) certainly can't be blamed of any of the above injuries.

  13. Biggest problem is that the team is powder puff!

Not nearly enough heart, need to be showing every week that same attitude on display against the Pars last week. Some clearly do care but some look like they couldn't give a toss.  But for me the biggest issue is that there is nobody really dominant in the side.  Wedderburn uses his physique to good effect but any advantage gained is immediately lost as his passing is pish!  The other 3 bigger lads ie Davo, Bene and Duggan are ok against smaller players but in this league there are some big hoofers and our boys just can't match up against them.

  14. Too many players in this squad with ZERO heart.

Gillespie shows it about 1 game in 3. Crane????   Flanny last 2 games ?????

The manager is too single track minded, I like him but he doesn't seem to be learning from OUR defeats. Forfar, Montrose, East Fife all shutting up shop and yet we still stay with 4 at the back and two winger???? , when will we learn and find a way past a team that sits in and hits ion the break? It's like the last time we were here all over again.

  15. Apparently it's not the stewards job to deal with any pyrotechnics, that comes under the jurisdiction of the designated Fire Marshals although where the f**k they were when needed is any bodies guess (although I did have a Marshal sitting behind me, but he did f***k all about it eh Dod? ;) ). My initial concern was that Bobby Madden was going to inspect the damage and rule it as being dangerous and and abandon the game.

Ok so the culprits are arseholes of the highest order but our procedures have been found wanting here too, Lee Robinson kicked one of the burning flares if all four had been dealt with in the same way the damage could have bee less severe.  Fire marshals ready to react with flame and heat resistant asbestos type gloves and buckets of  sand should have been the order of the day, just having two buckets of sand is little more than a token gesture.

There are differing reports where on one hand the ground staff are being quoted as calling the damage mainly superficial and others where it's said to be far more serious than that and as it cannot be patched will require an entire strip layer in at the cost of several thousands.

Between the cost of repair and the inevitable SFA fine these fucknuggets have probably cost the club most of the revenue from yesterdays game.

Rumours of Mr Simm having insured the pitch against this are also apparently false, in retrospect he should at least have had 3rd party fire & theft.

    "Pride comes...."

To be fair, I never truly expected us to pump you as we are pish (although it would have been nice). Thought it was two poor teams to be honest but hopefully you get a good run now with a winnable tie in the next round.

    Fair play to you commissario.;)
