  1. Perhaps having a stronger bench will be the way forward, a few on here have speculated that 2 wingers away from home (in this league) is a luxury we can ill afford. perhaps a solid midfield 3 of Gillespie and Matthews in front of big Nat with either Armstrong or Flanagan out wide could stop us losing games away and still have enough creativity to get results.  Having some real (more experienced) options from the bench both up top, in midfield and defence (eg, Duggan and Buchanan , Matthews/Wedderburn & Murray) would give us a dimension we haven't had all season.

Will McGlynn play Crane at LB when he comes back in?

Cranes last game before injury, he played at CM and he also scored in that game

Wasn't that born more out necessity due to Wedderburn being suspended and there being literally nobody else who could play CM?

I know Crane isn't everyones cup of tea but I think he's the best LB option we have at present, better to play him there IMO and either slide Murray across or bring in a real fightback and allow Gillespie back into the middle of the park where his bite can hopefully break things up early.

  3. Wonder how close Crane is to a return, might he get 20 mins tomorrow at Kelty?

Listening to the Dumbarton pre-match interview I came away with the idea that Both Crane and Hendry will be returning until May but one of the keepers won't be and the 4th loan spot will be filled by an outfield player.

Hopefully the outfield player will be a right back, maybe McGlynn can tap into his Celtic or Hearts connection and unearth someone that can do a job for us.

Another thing that was mentioned was the option of signing free agents, wasn't there an experienced right back released in the summer that we were linked with?

  4. I’m still not a fan of artificial surfaces and won’t hide it.

Ours my be of a higher standard than some others but we have been training on plastic up at a Michael Woods for 3 seasons and in that time I feel we have suffered more from injuries than we ever used to.

Correct me if I’m wrong but there are no artificial surfaces in the English Prem or Championship, I wonder why? I also heard recently that the 4 big Dutch teams are donating their European takings to subsidise the Clubs in Holland with plastic to replace with grass again.

Alex McLeish bemoaned that after the Livvi game all the Celtic boys were “tight” when they last reported for international duty, not the first time we have heard such like.  Hammys and groins seem to be very much the in vogue injury.

Every SPL manager has slated the artificial surfaces up there, ours may be of a higher quality but I wonder what those managers would have to say about it if they visited?

Lastly much is being made about the £40,000 from the Fife Elite deal but is that over 1 season, 2 or more? Not that it matters a jot as that money surely has to be going into SP Properties to repay the outlay cost.

If we resort to that approach against Linn in a couple of weeks and it keeps him quiet and we win then I’d be delighted.

As much as I'd like to think we are better than that and above such shenanigans, I think you're bang on.

When all is said and done the record books won't show that team X kicked the crap of team Y or that team Y 's squad was decimated by injuries just who got promoted and who didn't.

Additionally if at Station Park on Saturday some agricultural type was to put him out of the game for a quarter of the season, that'd be just dandy football .

Teams do it every week to him

Less of your shite or we're going after Nisbet next

Oh go on then I'll bite, just how many game has Linn missed due to injuries?

As for the Nisbet comment, I'd honestly expect nothing less of any team sent out by Uncle Fester, he's got plenty of form there.

  7. If the rumours are to be believed Falkirk haven't got two brass buttons to rub together, personally I'd doubt they'd be willing to shell out for an under contract player like Bene.

Not that I'd put it past the Serpent to be talking to Bene to unsettle him, he did exactly the same with Toshney.  Falkirk are in a bad way on and off the park he'd be a mug to go there in January.

What a bunch of bad losers first and foremost. I even witnessed one guy at reception with a young kid in his arms jumping about complaining about this and that after walking past minutes before and saying "are yous going to get an open top bus parade?"...   Complete embarressment as a whole really. Trying to tell us its not a big game your players celebration today said otherwise. Mon the Fife.

Don't blame you in the slightest I'd be cock a hoop too if I'd just seen us beat a rival for the 1st time in a couple of generations.

  9. With regard to the clocks going back, I think our problem stems largely from the fact that by November we've played everyone once and they know what we are all about and crucially how to stop us. This is why I think when we strengthen in the new year we usually go on another run as then we have something different.  This year we've played everyone once but after the 6th game we changed the management and that could hopefully be massive in terms of the annual blip not happening this year....maybe it's Jason Thomson curse and it's followed him to Arbroath. ^_^

Yesterday was a return to McGlynn teams of old where we fought our corner for the full 90 and refused to surrender a lead, exactly what the Bald Messiah said about turning draws into wins.

Arbroath may or may not carry on the way they are but as a team I think they are about as good as they are ever going to be, we on the other hand are a work in progress and will continue to improve the longer McGlynn and co work together, add in returning injured players and if we can stop amassing injuries to a paper thin squad we will get infant of the lichees eventually.

On another note, I thought the pitch played quite poorly yesterday. Some balls zipping off the surface and other holding up and not running through as expected, it's starting to look patchy like some of the other ones too.

  10. Cat was offered the same terms (money I'd guess) as before.

He was to continue as before as reserve/youth dev' coach and the only change is that he would be that he would no longer be assistant manager but a 1st team coach.

Now Cat is an intelligent guy but obviously his pride was dented and he viewed this as a demotion and decided to move on.  Personally I'd now question just how clever he really is, the smarter move imo would have been to sit tight and soak up the McGlynn wisdom.  I think he'd have learned more just listening to the Baldy in the last 10 days than he'll have picked up in 15 months under Baz Smith.

Anyway, like Smith he is yesterdays news and is part of a chapter I'm happy to consign to history.

True he had a big part in that season we finished 4th (but was he really a better keeper than the one he replaced through McKinnon's alienation of the Witch?) but it's said he came with an injury and retired from the game with the same problem. He's not even in my top 5 best Raith keepers.

  11. I'd have preferred it to be Alex Harris not Bob. I always admired Bob Harris when he was with QotS and was hoping we'd sign him in August when I heard he was available. It's a wee bit concerning that he has been unable to find a club this season as a free agent (especially given how good he was).  Hope there's not a bad reason for this, but hey ho! Beggers cant be choosers.
