  1. At best you can describe Arbroath as a very physical side. Dick's teams only have one way of playing.... The Lochgelly way, like the tawse. Hard and brutal.

Not the the Rovers are soft, but f**k me are they slow, slow on thought and especially slow in action.

Draw was a fair result l, if any one was going to win it it was always going to be the hemmer throwers, Rovers lack too many things, speed, fight and confidence are the main 3.

Can't wait for this season to end.

As a club RRFC are going backwards.

  2. Our team was flat, Accies were up for it and put their bodies on the line time and again.

Going into this I thought we had more quality than them, I was wrong. Most in blue were a six out of 10 at best, Isma and Brad were both less than that.

IM & CC also need to analyse their role in the defeat, imo it's no small part either.

A big support shows up......and the team doesn't!  How often have he seen that over the years?

  3. The Arbroath side of 3 seasons ago that virtually picked it's self and stayed relatively injury free is now but a distant memory. The only thing that hasn't changed is the physical side to the team.

I like my trips to Arbroath and genuinely hope Arbroath manage to stay up and preferably Cove go down. Mind you if they do get relegated I won't miss dirty dick and his hammer throwing band.

TOB could easily have seen red for a blatent kick out when the ball was nowhere near. The big lad up front (24?) dished out his fair share too including a particularly nasty challenge on Lang that had big Tam raging.

I thought that was a good crowd on Saturday.

It was decent, the attendance was given as 2,025, I reckoned on about 150-200 away fans so an increase of about 10-15% on the home support over the season's average?

It was the 3rd biggest attendance in the division of the weekend with Dundee and Partick having more.

Rovers are the 16th best supported team in the leagues and we currently sit...19th.

    There funny 😂😂

Stevo's cart horse was a laughing matter (just like the Fife) and it probably talked more sense than wee  Tazz.

Shame that the poor old beast had to spend it's final years in the Bayview defence before the final trip to the knackers yard........or was that effectively the same place? 🤔

Brown is due in the Cup versus Motherwell…he’s only on 7 in League play, so has 4 more to give.

I don’t get the fear of Nolan. Certainly he’s not as composed as Lang or O’Riordan, but he’s solid enough and, despite comments to the contrary, seems to do fairly well heading the ball clear too.

Nail on head! Nolan has little to no composure, when he receives a pass I don't know who is the most worried, him or us in the stands. True he does win some headers but is generally too lightweight in the challenge and is easily manoeuvred off the ball, he lacks the physical attributes and often resorts to a one or two handed shove on an opponent. He's extremely one footed too, seems the left foot is only for standing on as he clearly doesn't trust it with the ball. At least twice on Saturday he ran around the ball rather than use his weaker foot.

If we aren't bringing in another CH I'd rather we deployed Dick alongside Lang and used Ngwenya at LB, not that I'm a huge fan of the Aberdeen loanee either.

  7. Brown is now due a suspension, assuming Stanton come in for him it'd be interesting to see what'd happen if we won without Brown whether IM would bring him straight back in, Brown has many admirers for his combative qualities and is a fairly solid performer but I'm not convinced he has the ability of the likes of Stanton, Matthews or Spencer when on the ball.

I felt Lang was guilty of trying too hard at times yesterday, the backwards diving header was his biggest error along with not emptying it when he gave a way a foul for playing the ball on the deck. I'm not convinced he was anymore to blame for their second than Millen and Spencer were, it was a howler all round.

Dick had an ok game other than his calamatious positioning for their 1st and that silly careless foul that lead to their second, had they not scored from one of those errors then chances are he'd have been mentioned as one of yesterdays better players.

The young Irishman inspires no confidence at all, Nolan on the ball just gives me the fear, where O'Riordan oozed composure Nolan is the exact opposite.

  8. Poor defending for ICT's first letting Henderson get goal side, and just plain ridiculous defending for their 2nd, nobody marking their top scorer? Nobody matching the run of the man on 10 goals for the season?

Would have been an irrelevance had we just taken a greater numerical advantage in to the 2nd half, almost 70% possession and more than double the shots at and on goal. Really should have been at least 2 or 3 up.But if you don't capitalise by taking your chances and then employ Keystone Cop style defending then you get what you deserve.

Thought the ref was poor, looked from our end like a handball in the second half for a Rovers pen but not given, fair do's but I do take exception to the decision to award a free kick against Gullan, Gullan was clattered 1st by the defender then by Ridgers knee which was raised high enough to warrant a card, shocking decision.

I heard some one say it's another cut & paste display from us, I think that's what the whole season will be remembered for.

  10. Not the best draw but hey ho it could have been worse....far worse.

Should we get through I doubt it will be a candidate for Tv (though perhaps if Linlithgow win), the usual suspects such as  Rangers, Celtic and probably 2 from Accies v Hearts, Aberdeen (should they get past Darvel) v  Falkirk, the all SPL clash and even the Livvi v ICT/Queens Park being more attractive than our potential tie.

Partick and possibly Hamilton look to be the ones to gain most financially, and of course Falkirk.

If there's a bright side it's that we can't guarantee a cash windfall and there'll be no nasty surprise at the end of this window, the down side being there might well be no surprises at all.

If by some amazing stroke we get past LR and then Motherwell it could mean Murray having funds to start building for next season. All pie in the sky but given his transfer track record I'm not exactly brimming with confidence should that come to pass.

Additional rumour mentioned on the Falkirk thread that Hearts Euan Henderson might be heading for us…can’t find anything mentioned anywhere though.

Seems a good prospect and was fairly prolific in his last loan spell at Alloa (under Bazza), has even had a few outings for Hearts 1st team too.

The question is though, is he really what we need?  A former youth international at Rugby Union the lad clearly has a decent strong build on him but at 5'8 (1.78m) he's not the target man I think we need.  His best position is listed as a right footed left winger, we have a plethora of guys who can play out wide (Ross, Connolly, Easton, McBride and even Gullan if need be), what we lack is an upgraded version of O'Connel.

Incidentally had it been the other Ewan Henderson (from Hibs) signing he'd be following in his father Nicky's footsteps, he played a game for us back in the 1990's

  12. Does a midweek fixture benefit the Rovers more than LR? An extra 76hrs for the recuperating wounded to get fitter and more importantly a whole day to prepare as opposed to LR players who will likely be doing a days work in their FT jobs.

Mind you if the draw is favorable it might make 'em play out of their skins (if the weren't already planning to)

  13. If our aim is to maintain our place in the Championship then by all means look to re-sign the majority of the likes of what we currently have (and then sit back and hope for the best), if on the other hand progression is our aim we need better than we already have.

MaCdonald is probably the best keeper in the league, talk of getting rid is absolutely farcical, McNeil isn't ready and Thommo isn't a patch on Jammer.  Sadly I wouldn't be surprised if he (JM) jumps ship in the summer of his own accord.

Last season Dick was one of the weaker links in our back four, we all knew if we wanted to progress we'd need better than Bene, Dick and probably Berra too. Bene, Berra and Tumilty all left and other than Lang I'd argue we have no one of better quality in the back 4.  I'd re-sign Lang (if we can), keep Young and Masson and look for better than we have for the rest, if Millen has another year on his contract he'll have to stay too.

In midfield we have good players in: Matthews, Spencer, Stanton and if you want to include wingers and youngsters there's Connolly, Ross and Arnott, Any midfielders I haven't mentioned IMO aren't as good as the former ones who we have to get tied down, sadly I see us losing the likes of Connolly, Stanton and Matthews which would be devastating.

Up top we are hopelessly lightweight and have been for years, Vaughan and Gullan I'd hold on to along with Mitchell and look for additions and replacements for all the others.

From what we've seen I've not got a lot of confidence that IM can make the signings we'll need. Murray's only real success in the transfer market has been the loan signing of O'Riordan, I'd challenge anyone to name one of his signings who has out performed last seasons guys.  Folks will argue that Murray hasn't had the budget but the counter argument stands that what little he had wasn't spent wisely enough.

Hopefully the board will back Murray to bring some new blood in and also allow him to re-sign the one's we want to keep, hopefully he will be a better manager for us going forward.

  14. Rovers are lacking leadership that's undeniable, in the past this has been rectified by signing two old codgers on loan from St J. One was a moaning faced defender who all but single handedly sorted out a weak unorgaised back four. The other was a proven goal scorer who added a genuine threat to the attack.

McGlynn replaced both by signing similar types, Berra was a success but the same could not be said for the Keatings idea.

I think we need another Steven McLean and Steven Anderson, I'm still hoping Murray gets it right but so far his signings have been at best average and more often dross.

As for IM himself I feel there is a bit of the Barry Smith about Murray, he is maybe a tactical guy and he  seems to know what he wants from his players but he's just unable to get it. Also when it comes to charisma, well he's not got much! Neither boring nor inspirational he seems a bit bland, if he was a colour he'd be beige.

  15. Going by updates and 2nd hand reports another disappointment and a seemingly preventable one at that.

Not at this one as I was at work about 40 miles NE of Cove so I'm really  in no position to comment, what I will say though it sounds very similar to our last league outing at Hamilton on the 2nd where we toiled to put away an incredibly poor side that really were there for the taking. The only difference being that Hamilton almost got their late equaliser, Cove actually did.

Other than the reported poor game management, it'd be interesting to hear from those who were there who was up to muster and who didn't turn up. Hard to tell going on updates but it seemed Vaughan had a good game, Gullan, Spencer and Lang had positive mentions but that was about it, any more insight?

I certainly didn't. Also didn't realise Sinton had been back helping out either.

I did as I heard Boyd was coming back to the club at around the same point Karen McCartney was going (End of November), I asked if he was taking over her job, apparently he isn't.  Officially there has been nothing that I've seen, unless I missed it.

David Sinton I didn't know about. Also on that matter given our owner's line of business and his pal (DS) it's very strange that the new man who was helping with the accounts was so clueless to the extent "David stepped back in".   Horses for courses I wouldn't expect a top class accountant to be able to identify and recruit a football but I did think getting a decent accountant in would have been right up their alley.

For the rest of the Sim interview is an hour and nine minutes of "not enough meat on the bone" as the new Chairman would say.

Lots of things covered but with very, very little clarification. Plenty of waffle, a fair bit of moving the goalposts and no acknowledgement of misdemeanors or apologies.

"We need someone charismatic and passionate", I guess he's getting regular visits from The Ghosts of Rovers Chairmen past, Gawn Yersel Turnbull!

  17. So Through to the SPFL Trust CC Semi, an away tie at either Dunfermline or Dundee should see a decent gate and possible Alba coverage too, even if we get knocked out the entire gig should be worth anything from £15-25k ??, Now if we could progress past Lithgy Rose we'd be guaranteed another £47,500 and possibly more. Just like last season the result of our next cup game could define how much if anything IM will get to spend before the end of the month.

Kyle Lafferty was available at this time last season for £4k a week, there were a possible 16 weeks left of the season at the time that roughly the same amount of Transfer money went to Clyde.
