  1. Villa Jogoo vs Vipers SC in the Ugandan Premier League! Two of the countries top teams slugging it out in the national stadium in front of 5000-odd people. Villa (from Kampala) used to be the dominant force in Ugandan football but have dipped a bit in recent years. This ticked a lot of boxes of what I was expecting from African football: crazy traffic (got there 20 mins late, with hundreds of folk still outside the ground), flares, a huge thunderstorm, an oompah band leading the chants in the ultras section with singing throughout, a huge guy with his tap aff blasting dance music from a sound system he was wearing on his head a few rows behind me, and a really fun, welcoming atmosphere - I’m pretty sure I was the only ‘mzungu’ in the stadium and I don’t think I’ve ever been so papped! The photos I took don’t do it justice - pretty much everyone was in the same stand as me. Oh, and the game was a dire 0-0 draw, and I’d have fancied a Scottish League 2 side over either of them, but that hardly mattered. Loved it - a great evening out.
  2. 9/10 for Monday including a couple of guesses. Ran out of luck on Napoelon’s horse though. Pretty likely to be AWOL from quiz action for the rest of the week as I’m off to Uganda tonight, but let’s see.
  3. 9/10 for Wednesday. Got the Fall of Saigon wrong. A kind set of questions otherwise - I’m going to Entebbe in a few days.
  4. I have to say that aside from the sad news following yesterday’s event, I really enjoyed it. I got across in about three hours as well, which I’m quite chuffed with. its fun riding on closed roads - never done that before. Slight bummer that it finishes so far outside the city of Edinburgh itself - a city centre finishing line would have been quite fun. Shame that that’s the last one - whetted my appetite for more events like that. Any suggestions of similar ones to try?
  5. I did PfS and passed soon after this happened. He looked as if he was being well attended to but it has been on my mind all day and was hoping for better news. Condolences to you and your family.
  6. In just about any country, you’d think so in a situation like this Don’t underestimate the ability of Scotland’s population to bottle it. I could see a scenario playing out where Sturgeon has pretty much all her ducks in a row over this, and it still pans out to a No vote. Hope I’m wrong though.
