  1. I agree that Brake Club involvement at home matches was practically non-existent - many were banned and most of the rest of us were trying to hit Hunter in the pocket by boycotting home matches. Personally I didn't attend many away matches either, but I was at Greenock and to the best of my recollection the Brake Club coach was full.
  2. We've not been getting a lot of that sort of 'luck' in recent weeks. Paul Watson's goal for Montrose was phenomenal but he wouldn't have scored it if he had got the straight red he deserved in 9 minutes for an atrocious foul on Ian McFarland.
  3. No, not as things stand - all the area behind the goal and along the far side is earmarked for housing, and there is no provision for standing accommodation. It's not really terracing anyway - there were wooden benches there which rotted away and were removed a couple of seasons ago. The steps are too high for safe terracing, and in any case there are rusty metal fittings all over them.
  4. If it was a 5k capacity that would certainly be enough - that's the official capacity of the current stand. The first proposal is for a 500 capacity stand, aligned with the finish line of the athletics track rather than the half way line. There are other issues with which the club are seeking discussions with the Council.
  5. I was wondering that myself. Mac and I have disagreed about Mr Charleston in the past - the last time he refereed one of our matches was years ago and he was first-rate (even though Welfare beat us). I'm not a biased Shire fan though.
  6. Not a stupid question. As Mocochinchi says, we just use 'City'. Everyone in the Lowland League used that; but in the SPFL there are people who say 'Edinburgh', which annoys us because 'Edinburgh' is a bleeding rugby team. Edinburgh University players and supporters call their side 'Edinburgh', though, and I can't remember what Edinburgh United supporters use. 'Lilywhites' and 'Citizens' are journalist-type nicknames which probably no supporter has used since the 1930s. 'Burgh' is Musselburgh Athletic, not heard it used by an Edinburgh team.
  7. Still a third of the season to go, and a couple of good or bad results could change the table dramatically. Look at Montrose, who were toiling a few weeks ago. Everyone apart from Forfar, Arbroath and Elgin could finish bottom this season, but even then being in the play-off doesn't automatically mean you will be relegated.
  8. I love your touching faith that I have any idea what is going on player-wise at the club, Mr B. When I was the treasurer I had to know what contracts were being agreed for new signings, but these days I mostly learn about new players when Gary sends me the manager's message for the programme late on Thursday night. What sort of fancy filter do you have on your camera which can turn my pal's white hair Trump-coloured? He will not be pleased.
  9. Hold on a fornicating minute. I am told that Mr Milne was not responsible for ANY Meadowbank programme cover and that he has been able to spell 'conscious' properly since he was in Primary 4 and probably earlier. Let's nip this rumour in the copulating bud. Er, so it has been suggested.
  10. Two Stockbridge ruffians now and looking to recruit more. As pointed out on another thread, until about 1975 Stockbridge was quite a dodgy area. There are a few streets yet which are a bit rough.
  11. Plenty of parking on the main road or in the side streets. Stadium car park may be busy as there is a circus on next door.
  12. Away supporters are definitely welcome at the club - there's a buzzer just under the swipecard thingy.
  13. The printer in the committee room ran out of ink. I got the last one but gave it up to a lad from Kettering.
  14. All the shirts are in the same size so that anyone can wear any number. Joe's shoulders are so broad that we had to get an XL shirt for him, and number 21 makes it easy to identify when the kit is being laid out.
  15. Surprised that rogering by Killie wasn't Thistle's record attendance. Every Kilmarnock fan I have ever met claims to have been there.
  16. The first Sports Conscious strip (1982/83) was on sale at their shop in Tollcross - cheap but not great quality, at least the replicas; more like a long sleeved cotton t-shirt. Mine fell to pieces decades ago and got thrown out. The Admiral jerseys were never on sale but were occssionally loaned to the supporters' football teams. They became notorious for nipple burn if you didn't wear a t-shirt under them. City replica jerseys are available at home matches or from the Football Nation shop and website [emoji5]
  17. Good article. I do remember Raith missing some chances in the second half, while Thistle could do no wrong - don't think I would agree with 10-10, but 4-2 Thistle would have been fair enough. Meadowbank never beat Stenny 6-0 - the best score was 6-1.
  18. City press release today: Edinburgh City FC are delighted to announce the signing of former Manchester City, Millwall and Yeovil Town midfielder Marc Laird. The 30 year-old Edinburgh-born player has made over 250 League and Cup appearances south of the border and also enjoyed spells at Leyton Orient, Southend United and Tranmere Rovers. City Manager Gary Jardine, who knew Laird as a youngster before he left for Manchester City, was happy to oblige when the player asked for training facilities and the player himself was impressed with both the welcome he received and the quality of player in the squad. Jardine commented “Marc is a quality footballer who is vastly experienced having tasted success in being promoted with Millwall but more recently helping Yeovil Town to stay in the Football League last season. The players are working extremely hard to turn things around just now and bringing in someone of Marc’s quality will give everyone at the Club a lift”
  19. City's first match at Meadowbank was on 13 January 1996 - a 1-0 League win over Selkirk. Can't remember if the floodlights were switched on for the second half.
  20. We appealed Joe Mbu's red card against Shire in the play-offs and it was rescinded. One thing City are going to have to get used to - fast - is the "I feel a touch, I fall down" practice which only a couple of Lowland clubs were guilty of, but seems to be universal in the SPFL. We were the second cleanest team in the Lowland League with 1 red and 62 yellows in 40 matches. This season we have 1 red and 19 yellows in 7 matches. Some (not all) of the bookings in the Elgin City match were ludicrous, including at least one of the Elgin yellows. Don't go in hard if there's no need to, be aware that if a player can see your leg he will probably take the opportunity to fall over it, stop throwing the ball away if a free-kick is given. And apparently jersey-tugging isn't misconduct in League Two if it's not too blatant.
  21. Not City's strongest team either - no Stobie, Gair, Caddow, Cummings or McConnell, a trialist keeper and six substitutions at half-time. You could tell who were the higher-division team, of course - East Fife look good going forward and their defence is excellent. There are few teams who will stop City having any shots on target this season. We're not disappointed with the display.
  22. Social Club tickets for City supporters. The vast majority of the tickets are being sold by Hibs.
  23. Gary Jardine and John Green appointed joint City managers on 30 January 2010. Gary the sole manager from 31 May 2012.
