It's definitely a social problem where the kids just aren't out the way they once were. I never see children out playing with a ball and other sports such as Golf are also suffering really badly. The "money" thing also doesn't come into it as our local club offers free membership to under 16's, free lessons from our club pro and even a loan of golf clubs if the kids don't have any, all that and we still can't attract them.

Television, Social media and mobile phones have had a big part to play but also the demise of many youth clubs, YMCA, Boys brigade and Scout groups compared to years gone by.

Who knows, we might not be able to create footballers and golfers of the future but I'm sure we'll have our fair share of gender neutral entrepreneurs.................

I don't see the fact that young people don't want to play football as a social problem and I'm not sure that we ever had a glut of world class golfers that's now disappeared.

Entrepreneurs are wealth creators so we'd probably be better off with them :P.

the sport in scotland is now middle class, no longer a working class sport

I would disagree. The middle classes are still more likely to favour rugby.  If you mean that the former working class are now better off and have aspirations to be middle class then you could be right.

Starting to wonder if we should just forget about National football. It seems to be passing us by. Even with good players on the park we always look less than the sum of our parts. Starting to wonder if an wver decreasing number of fans are the only people who actually give a f**k and everyone else is going through the motions

The desire to only watch winning teams is what gives Celtic and The Rangers so many fans along with seeing Barcelona/Man City, etc replica tops all over the place.  Never give up and never give in, fight that desire!!

6th place and 6 points off the pace. 8 points lost already.Only dropped 12 points all last season. Has there been that big a change at K Park  ?

People often find it hard to comprehend but the margins are pretty fine at this level and it only takes a few changes to completely change a team.  Our success over the last few seasons has been built on strong defence.  Craig Howie was an ever present during that period and alongside David Proctor has a tremendous record at Lowland level.

We have resources and will continue to search for players to make the jigsaw better but it's not FM.  You see loads of potential players with, what looks like, great pedigree but for different reasons a lot of them don't work.

The fact that we haven't seen  any single team dominate relentlessly is one of the many great qualities of football at this level.

    Heard this too.

How is Dean Cairns doing? Noticed like some others, he's covering in midfield and at the back? Decent player? Thoughts?

I like Deano, he's not the quickest and I prefer to see him in midfield as he's quite direct.

Billy Dodds came back to Pittodrie with a Diddy club of historical interest only shortly after his Sister had died in a crash. A fully grown man in the lower dick stood up and shouted "hey Dodds, I dug up your sister and shagged her". He was roundly shouted down by everyone nearby and physically shoved back in his seat.

That's horrific!!  Did you ever see him there again?

Fair enough piece to be honest.

The main issue for a lot of fans is Derek seems to be getting more cautious as the years go by. Killie weren't exactly in top form and we played out a terrible 0-0 draw. Derek then complained about some of the players in the press and said he felt too many of them were happy to accept a 0-0 draw. They didn't play any different to the previous three or four games. His tactics are often the issue but he fails to address it.

Managing professional footballers is a very difficult job (particularly when there is high fan expectation) but I think Derek McInnes has done really well at Aberdeen.

So every aspect of Rangers FC's activity is connected to the Orange Order?  Is that really what you are trying to say?  FFS and people think I'm a fantasist.

Scouting and signing targets are all dealt with by the OO, specifically their Director of Footfall...

As much as it fustrates me to think that we've just replaced a hard working decently skilled May with Main (the less the said about his skills etc.), I feel like both will score similar amounts of goals at Aberdeen, but crucially Main will be paid considerably less for it.
Weird to think that May was probably the most exciting and most hyped up signing the clubs had for a while yet all he'll be remembered for was his effort...
Sadly he's the definition of a flop and whats worse is I think he'll score goals at St. Johnstone and make us feel terrible about the whole thing.

He's a great example of how players aren't simply good or bad.  They react differently to managers, team mates, systems, home life.  I was delighted when St Johnstone appeared to have found a young player with real talent and hoped he'd re-discover it at Aberdeen.   I now hope he can give Saints fans something to smile about.

Problem appears to be of the wage variety.  With recent signings plus the emergence of young players like Johnston Sinclair has fallen further down the pecking order at Celtic.  Shame because he was class for Celtic in his first couple of seasons

He's still one of the best players on the books BUT also the highest earner...
