Has Berra looked as if he's playing on while still carrying an injury?

Nope, looks like he's an excellent reader of the game and good at covering others if they are beaten in a 50/50. He's the main reason we'd went 5 games in a row without conceding a goal. We've conceded once since he came in and that was a goalkeeper mistake and he'd only met the players that day.

Don't get me wrong, I watched him on TV a few times for Hearts last season and he looked utterly finished. That's not the player that arrived at Dens (Even taking into account the quality difference between leagues).

  2. Not saying this is in anyway feasible, but if we managed to get football back up and running in the lower leagues behind closed doors fairly quickly there's a chance the likes of Sky would throw an emergency TV deal out just so as they are covering some football I'd imagine.

Just need to look on here to see that Belarusian football has much more exposure since the lockdown. Guaranteed eyeballs.

Bobby (as he was then) Douglas was 3rd choice keeper at Meadowbank when he was starting out ..

Did quite well for himself and is a good guy too

Reckon he was a backs against the wall keeper. No surprise Celtic fans remember his Liverpool performance well. Give Rab time to think and he'd usually muck up but have him having to deal with constant situations and he was one of the best.

Only keeper I've ever watched that would do a full fitness work out when the ball wasn't in his half.

Behind closed doors, would it be possible to show live games, stream etc so that fans could pay - then the income could be passed onto the clubs ? or does the current tv deal prohibit such things ?. Am sure fans would be happy to do so IF their clubs benefitted.

Think it's been discussed that this is a go'er. In normal times this would obviously not be allowed. I reckon this is the only we will see a regular start to the new season as I don't think we will be at a stage for mass gatherings being allowed until at least 2021.

I'm looking forward to some right shite angles.

  5. Is Butcher a top 6 style hatchet man? Nope. But he'll not be massively out of place in the Prem.

The concern for me (And it's a good concern to have!) is that if he's one of your best players (Aside from the obvious) then there's a massive amount of work to be done. Without Shankland or a suitable replacement (Nisbet) I'd see United coming straight back down. With Shankland or a suitable replacement, United would just about survive.

If top 6 is the aim, then major surgery is required. If consolidating in the top flight is the aim then a minimum of 2-3 players in is required AND a suitable replacement for Shankland if he goes.

That's standard though - I've yet to see a club go up and not strengthen. I'm not gonna get into a slagging match with United fans about how much you spend and how viable that is or whatever, but if the amounts you are willing to throw about are true (Courier saying a £350,000 bid - going up to £500,000 for Kevin Nisbet was made in Jan) then there's absolutely no reason why Robbie Neilson won't have United fighting at the right end of the table whenever next season starts.

If you're fighting a relegation battle then something has went wrong along the way IMO. At a total guess, I'd have United finishing in the 7-9th range if the world was a normal place right now and things were ticking along as one would expect.

Listening on delay. Dodds raging about not getting the Dundee job. 🤣

Billy Dodds on John Nelms after not getting the job at Dundee:

“John Nelms, after speaking to him yesterday, he's a good lad and what you see is what you get. And that's the way I found him.”

Billy Dodds when given the opportunity to stick the boot in:

"I wouldn’t like him in the trenches with me. I couldn’t trust the guy."

He's one of BBC Scotland's leading pundits. He's definitely a reason to make one consider not paying their license fee. Is he truly the best Scotland can offer?

Best Killie keepers in my time watching us are - Allan McCulloch, Ally Hunter and Jim Stewart.

Worst - Jim Brown,  Francois Dubourdeau, and Chad Harpur.  Craig Samson was very poor too.

We had Dubordeau for a spell at Dens. Never played a game ahead of Kelvin Jack and Derek Soutar which says a lot (We also had Harpur!). I remembered him being alright for Killie/Motherwell - obviously mind is failing me.

Was it Klos or McGregor who got dropped for that Leitizi boy when Le Guen was there?

Remember seeing their line up the day we beat them at Ibrox and boasting about their arrogance in selecting a random reserve keeper, only to find out he was their number one these days.

Ronald Waterreus played 49 games in 05-06 with Klos playing 3. (Another shocker - when Klos was no longer injured).

Letizi started the Le Guen era as number 1 with McGregor as number 2, that quickly changed.

Stefan Klos was third choice that season. Fucking hell.

Best - Rab Douglas, Julian Speroni, Michel Pageau

Meh - Ludovic Roy, Scott Bain (In with the best for his first season, in with the worst for the rest of his spell so averages out), Jamie Langfield, Kyle Letheren, Steve Simonsen, Conor Hazard, Elliot Parish, Scott Murray, Tony Bullock, Billy Thomson, Scott Fox

Worst - Jack Hamilton, Kelvin Jack, Marco Rocatti, Derek Soutar & Craig Samson.

Only including players that had a regular stint in goal so not including the likes of Schenk etc. If I've not included them in the list then sage to say they're that 'meh' they've been forgotten about.

The meh list isn't all equal. Some extremely more meh than others.

Posted that in the Championship version of this thread.

Used to be a goalkeeper when I was young (Not above any level of playing with my mates) so have always paid more attention to keepers than any other position.

    My favourite non-Dundee keepers included:

Peter Kjaer - Colourblind but sensational for Aberdeen.
Stefan Klos - Vastly underrated keeper in that he was behind Jens Lehman in the German national team. Unlucky to have played in the same period as Oliver Kahn. Best goalkeeper I've watched in Scotland. Scandalous that he was on the bench for a season behind Alan McGregor. McGregor is a good keeper, but Klos was on a different level.
Javier Sanchez-Broto - Collected crosses for Livi that he shouldn't have been coming for and it always impressed he as he wasn't an intimidating keeper ala Rab Douglas.
Antti Niemi - Fantastic keeper for Hearts. Craig Gordon wasn't on his level IMO. (Hearts fans better placed to disagree)

I raised the 25 points to highlight that no club really cares about other clubs.  In football, as in business, most decisions made are made for your own benefit.  Don’t get me wrong clubs and businesses dress up their decisions like they care but at the end of every decision lies an accountant.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
Nelms has been a shambles with regards to appointing managers (McIntyre was incredibly close to being unforgivable for me).  Maybe his strength is wheeling and dealing with other clubs regarding league reconstruction.

Forgive me if I’m struggling to be convinced.

Won't disagree on his managerial appointments. He needs to take a step back in regards to that.

I do think he gets an unnecessarily hard time from our support. He's (And obviously Keyes) have given us 7 year of off the pitch stability and whilst it's been a bumpy road off the pitch, his first appointment took us to heights we'd not seen at our club since Bonetti's millions and arguably should have taken us further.

It's not a hard contest to win but he and Keyes have been the best owners of our club in my lifetime and the only thing I'd moan about is 2 shocking managerial appointments (Even then, I bought into McCann for a bit) and a few overzealous promises such as the game in the US so forgive me for giving him some credit when there's the opportunity to do so.

  11. It's an absolute shocker that Alex Rae deemed Craig Samson a superior keeper to Ludovic Roy. I've mentioned before that's what inspired my username, but I genuinely believe we might have pipped Hamilton to the league title if it were not for Samson's ridiculous mistakes.

Twice that season he dallied on the ball too long and booted it off a player and into his own net.

Also, put in a horrendous performance against QotS at home in a game we were beaten 2-3. Colin McMenamin's debut.

He made the correct decision, and then fannied around and changed it for a load of bullshit promises, that's the way I see it.

Fair enough - I can see there's no way of changing your mind on the matter. We'll just need to agree to disagree.

Sooner we're back to discussing McPake's winter (?) signings for the new season, the better!

No.  We gave away a YES vote in the HOPE they come back with something else.  I’m afraid that is different to what I was saying.

We couldn't have given a vote either way for any guarantee like that.

We were guaranteed it'd be discussed and we've now got an appointee on the group discussing it with it being led by one of the few club leaders who NEED reconstruction to save their club.

I will take your last point firstly if I may.  I’m sorry you took that as being snide.  The reason I said it was to help illustrate that you don’t give away the only thing you have for mere “discussions”.  I think by highlighting it that way you can see how “hopeful” our position is.  As my original point was, I think it’s way too soon to say Nelms did well,

Regarding the second point.  Why do we have to consider other clubs?  How many clubs lobbied the league complaining when we had 25 points deducted?

This 25 point thing is nonsense. Why do we need to hold a grudge over something that happened 10 year ago when many of the people involved are no longer involved with them clubs and the league organisation then doesn't even exist anymore? Should we be judged forever more on the actions of Melville, Di Stefano or Angus Cook?

Possibly is too soon to say Nelms done well and the only reason I ramp up that rhetoric is due to the fact that there's some outrageous shouts from people (Not just NDD) saying they won't return due to his actions etc when he's done very little wrong other than trying to get us the best deal. Whether that pans out or not is out of our and his hands, but it won't have been for a lack of trying.

Don't make me laugh, we'll be discussing this shite for the next twelve months and then we'll be back to square one.

Now you're pulling a RandomGuy and acting like mystic meg!

You're likely to be right - but that doesn't make what Nelms done as a negative that some are painting it as IMO. In the grand scheme of things, his delaying of the vote (Or whatever you want to label it as) won't have an impact on us either way. But will it have had an impact on the discussions around our game? Potentially, yes and potentially not. Better than nothing IMO.

Yet no-one else found themselves in such a fortuitous position due to some sort of IT issue.

Why would he not do what I have suggested?

My offer to you regarding my £10k discussions remains open.

Because clubs were being starved of the money. We either took our time to vote yes or no but we couldn't wait it out for the full time period denying clubs funds for that amount of time.

No need for the snide comment at the end tbh.

Better that than this pantomime we're in the middle of.

    Absolutely not.

What pantomine? We're involved in discussing the future of the game in Scotland.

If you mean the likes of Dodds and other media personalities having a pop at Dundee/Nelms - Who gives a f**k about them?!
