  1. Whether you regard St Pauli as diddies or not seems to be missing the point. Which is that Willie Miller has a phone that he can spend 30 seconds googling a players name if he doesn't recognise you & would then be able to at least bluff you into thinking he knows a little of what's talking about. He can't even be arsed to do that.

I don't need the guys on the radio to know everything about every new signing but the bare minimum of effort for a job you're getting paid to do isn't actually asking all that much. He doesn't have to do this. I'm sure there's someone at NorthSound or the like (or more likely with Radio Scotland some barely sentient ex-pro) who'd grasp the chance to cover Aberdeen games with both hands.

I've not been to a game in a long time so my musings are from what I read here and dad.

Mackay had lost dressing room, Adams came in and made an arse of handling the press and chucked players under buses then reversed bus over them.

Don's a liked figure at the club (to best my knowledge) I think we have to write the season off, if we don't drop automatically likely playoffs. That isn't going to be on Don though.

If Don can start to get the players heads up and working for the jersey then that wouldn't be a bad outcome whatever league we are in.

Whoever's doing the scouting needs fired though. It's always going be tough attract young lads to Dingwall, I left the Highlands at 18 and have no wish go back.

Hard to disagree. We've got a pretty mediocre squad, the Adams term destroyed whatever squad atmosphere there was, the transfer window is locked shut & all we got to show for it were some loanees from the dark depths of English football. Don Cowie would need to be a miracle worker to see this team finishing higher than 11th. Obviously the Livvy game is the proverbial 6 pointer, come away with nothing there & we're really in deep trouble.

And aye, if you told me the grand total of County's scouting budget was buying a copy of Football Manager every year I'm not even sure I'd be shocked. Whatever it is it leaves an awful lot to be desired. Really needs to be sorted out.

I don't know about you, but it's certainly made me sadder that he's no longer in Scottish football.

The league's a poorer place for that. Hopefully he's back sooner rather than later, but good luck to him in his next endeavour.

This is the weirdest posting gimmick.

Even County fans don't hold Adams in as high regard as you, & we're probably the only fanbase that doesn't hold him in complete contempt.

Can't say I paid much attention to Adams during previous tenures. Has he always been this much of a knob?

Well he punched Sean Higgins, one of his own players, during his first time as manager, & has fallen out with plenty of other players for no discernible reason.

I think if you're being generous you'd say he's a figure who can really motivate some folk & absolutely gets up the back of others.

The only answer to this is Billy Dodds.

Only if the question is "Which hopeless pundit should Radio Scotland get rid of next?"

Actually, that's not fair, there's probably 3 or 4 worse.

Quite possibly the worst appointment in Ross County’s history.  Since that interview against Dundee it’s been an utter car crash.

it started pretty well to be honest, the team looked remarkably more solid and cohesive.  Then BOOM.  He fucked it.

In his last tenure there were issues with Grant Munro, Paul Lawson, Mikey Fraser, Sean Higgins etc but he just hasn’t changed at all.

So what name will Roy pull out of his tombola now?  His only other signature move is steal someone from Caley.

I think Willie McStay still has him beat, because at least there was that promising start before he brought the whole house of cards down in a hissy fit a 3 year old would be proud of.

It had to happen.  I’m a bigger Adams fan than most, but it wasn’t working.  I’d think Ferguson will be close behind, as he should have stood up to Uncle Roy.

As for next…  no idea.  John Hughes again?

Yogi was the first name that came to mind. Maybe if it's just until the end of the season but him in charge full-time gives me the fear because it's not as if his track record for signing players is any good.

Probably what's needed is massive change in how the club is run, top to bottom. But at his age I can't see McGregor being willing to do that. And even if we did we'd still have to find a miracle worker to turn results around in the short-term, having wasted the transfer window

I think there is a very likely that the relationship with the chairman favoured a return and he thought after a few years down south experience. he would absolutely piss the league up here. How wrong he was. He hasn't helped matters with throwing the entire team under the bus and alienating first team players, to the point, almost half the squad definitely don't want to play for you. Follow that with bringing in 6 players (correct me if im wrong) and starting them all in his next games, basically saying that more than half the squad would not play under him.
If he thought his last club were 1000 times better, hes more than done enough damage to justify his part in the shambles.

Basically right, but just to be pedantic, he's actually brought in 7 through January.

I've just been looking back on the post I made when Adams was appointed. He's obviously not mellowed, he's certainly wound up all the right people, but unfortunately he's also wound up all the wrong people, and it certainly is going spectacularly wrong.

When he took over we were 11th and looking favourites for the play-offs. There's no denying we weren't good enough and things had to change. Adams opted to move fast and break things. In hindsight, maybe the right approach would have been to tinker lightly round the edges - but then maybe we'd still be in 11th anyway.

Should he leave? I don't know enough about what's going on behind the scenes. If relationships have been irreparably damaged then he needs to go. There's no coming back from that.

But if things are salvageable, then he probably needs to be given longer. He's brought in a bunch of players who will need time to settle in and in some cases (eg CBJ) will need to get match fit. It's not unreasonable to expect this team to at least become good enough to win a play-off, if not catch 10th.

A new manager would have to work with the same players, so sacking Adams (or him walking away) is not necessarily a panacea.

Looking back at the thread you quoted yourself from, at least one of us predicted it right

Cannot wait until I see the absolute randos Adams will bring in come January, of which about three of ten will be decent.

Although a 30% hit rate on the January signings might end up being overly optimistic.

We'll never know, but I'd love to know how much compensation we're sending to Morecambe.

Really dunno how I feel about this. Some of my favourite memories of the football are Adams' teams, especially that almost-undefeated Championship winning team. At the same time though, hard to look past how it ended in total acrimony. And it's hard to forget that he's a bit of a walloper, this fantastic quote from when Bradford punted him is on his Wikipedia page.

"If [Bradford] are going to get a new manager in they’re not going to get as successful a manager as myself in the door. That’s obvious to everyone, because my record is up there with all the records in this league.”

And then they appoint Mark Hughes who gets Bradford into the playoffs in his only full season there. Not even necessarily a bad thing to have a confident manager, but sometimes he did seem to lose touch with reality a bit.

But you hope for the best.

And not to toot my own horn too loudly but I did worry about it all going sour & him not necessarily being in touch with reality all the time. Can't say I expected it to go this wrong this quickly though.

I don't disagree that his new signings will need time to get bedded in, but then because of his attitude to long contracts they won't get it! By the time they are settled they'll be off back to their home clubs. And we'll be in exactly the same situation in the offseason regardless of whether or not we have been relegated. This was perpetually a problem in Adams' second spell at the club once we were in the top flight, the most ineffective scattershot attitude to building a squad, huge turnover of players every 6 months. How much of that was on him & how much was on his da the Director of Football I can't say, but it lingers in my mind constantly about Derek.

Can't believe the easy time of it Adams is getting.

As an unlikeable a manager that i can remember in the SPFL.

He's never going to get eviscerated by County fans because he was manager for our best teams. There's too many good memories to treat him like Malky, even as it becomes increasingly clear he's not up to the job.

Especially as he's always come across a bit weird and angry, a bit of a wallopper, so you were always going to have some folk defend his weird press statements as mindgames and 4D chess etc, because he was no different a decade ago. But he had vaguely more sense last time he was here; seemed to know the difference between creating an us and them attitude in the dressing room & just shitting all over everyone including his own players.

Whatever he's doing isn't working, and considering the turnover during the window he can't just blame the players he inherited.
