    I was under the impression that Spencer was joining McGlynn and Smudger; if he stays that's great news, but his eulogy of McGlynn in the article makes sound unlikely.

    I think you can sign a contract for when the present one runds out, a bit like a pre contract deal with players. The premission to speak thing is to stop players/ managers being poached mid contract.

    Actually, I think appointing Berra as player manager a la Grant Murray isn't a long shot. It wouldn't be any more of a risk than most of what's been suggested.
