So the house purchase went through at last?
Yeah they finally got a letter from a previous surveyor to say everything was in order, a week wasted for very little.

Misread you, my mistake. I don't like telly's being up high.
Yeah I'm a bit dubious myself but thought I'd give it a try if the price/hassle was minimal.

Funny place for a telly.
It's right in the middle of wall facing where the sofa is going.

How much cost and work is involved in raggling cables for putting a TV on a chimney breast? We finally got the go ahead for our house and would like to do this but I've been talking to my mates who are tradesmen and they're saying I'll need to relocate a plug point and cut holes in the brick etc and I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not.

I recently went through the exact same situation, but as the seller. We had to pay the Hamilton office £250 to get the letter of comfort once they had come round to inspect it to ensure it wasn't a load bearing wall. Pretty raging at the full fiasco as it only emerged at the last minute despite us buying the property 8 years earlier in the exact same condition so someone obviously wasn't doing their job at the time.
Don't expect SLC to be in any rush to get it done btw no matter how much you tell them the deadline is rapidly approaching. Stay on their case as they are absolutely useless. If you need to talk to someone in the office and get the option to stay on the line or get a call back, stay on the line as you'll never get a call back.
Good luck.
Yeah the guy from the council said they have 10 days to do the letter, so hopefully they take pity on us and get done sharpish. The fact the seller doesn't live in the house could also provide a problem with availability for the surveyor to get access.

I'd go with your solicitor then, his advice seems to back up my limited knowledge. Someone, at some time, has made an alteration to the property, which should have been ok'd before being done, by the local authority. It either has been ok'd and the paperwork lost, or it hasn't been ok'd/never asked for. Either way the seller can't prove that the work was authorised.
Anyone who buys the property without the paperwork is a bit mad, but also assumes liability to provide the paperwork for the next buyer (unless they're a maddie too).
I'd steer well clear unless they come up with the paperwork and your solicitor is happy with it. As you say yourself, how do you know the property is safe?
Yeah exactly. Hopefully everyone gets their finger out and we can proceed and move in on our proposed date, which is 2 and a half weeks away, its looking less likely every day! Cheers for the replies guys.

My reckoning is that the seller has to provide docs approving the work, and more fool them if they bought without it, as it's still their responsibility.
I'm no solicitor though, what does your own solicitor say?
He's saying we can't proceed until they come up with either a Letter of Comfort from a surveyor saying its ok, or the permission paperwork from when it was knocked down. My worry is the guy who is selling knocked it down without permission, and it's a load bearing wall and its not legal and the deal is off.

I'm pretty sure if it's over a set amount of time, 20 years sticks in my mind, the council give you a letter of exemption for it.
I'm pretty sure we got something similar when we bought our place as the kitchen is in an extension that was added 30 odd years ago.
Yeah they're saying we could get a letter of comfort, but I still think they need to prove it was done "legally". They only have electronic records back to '96, so maybe they'd have to check the paper records for before that, but apparently SLC have just moved that department to Hamilton and the paper stuff is still in EK, which is inconvenient. It's been going on for a while now, you'd think the seller would want his money (he's making a fortune on it) but they're dragging their heels for some reason.

I'm in the process of buying a house, but on the home report it says there was a wall taken away within the property. The seller is saying it was done before he was there and doesn't have the paperwork for it. I have since called the council and they don't have any record of it in the past 20 years, which to me means it was done on the fly, or over 20 years ago. Anyone got any ideas what my next step should be? Selling solicitors obviously trying to fob us off, but mine won't proceed til we get paperwork for it.

The house we were hoping to buy has been taken off the market. Seems the sellers' purchase of another property fell through.

Happy 4th of July everyone. Just going along with the theme of celebrating historic events that happened in another country.

Took both teams not to score in the first half before ko, then the opposite in play, £325 up. Missus took Belgium double chance then wales in play, £250 up B)

I've went for England double chance (win or draw) pre game and will bet Wales in-play.

Took in Atletico Madrid v Rayo Vallecano at the Vicente Calderon last Saturday on my stag do. Atleti won 1-0, wasn't a great game in truth, they played their 2nd team as they had Bayern in the CL the following midweek. They brought Griezmann (who scored) and Torres on in the 2nd half which livened things up a bit. Decent atmosphere and the Calderon is an excellent stadium, if not a bit aged. Build up was superb, loads of pubs on the main route down with a relaxed atmosphere.

EK is magic, although there's definitely high arsehole per head ratio. And it snows here more often than not. And it's always windy. And the football pitches are all garbage. EK is shite.

Posted on the other podcast thread, Kevin Pollak's Chat Show is quite entertaining depending on the guest. He's had a few top guests, Seth MacFarlane, Matthew Perry & Bryan Cranston to name a few. The wee games they play on it are quite funny and it's not your usual run of the mill interview.

Watched Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal, horrendous. His character(s) just overreact to everything and the ending was terrible.

If you've got the ip address you can use a site like this but it will probably give you the same info. It will tell you what network the IP is on but not an exact location
Nice one, cheers. From what it looks like, there's every chance it was me!

Got a message from FB saying someone tried to log into my FB and gave an IP address. Is there a way of locating exactly or roughly where the attempt was made using this? It said it was from near Drumchapel (I'm from EK) so it probably isn't just a dodgy location setting.

My old team folded at the end of last season, I left a few seasons ago but a few of my mates still play for them, so we organised an old crocks v current side for one last game with the guys, get a few beers etc. Anyway, its been organised for 2 months, I booked the park and a ref for the game at a combined cost of £140. It's tonight and from 2 squads of 16 we're now down to about 24 guys, 4 call offs in in the last 3 hours. I don't understand why folk say they'll take part then call off at the last minute, pretty infuritating.

Went for my honeymoon in May, stayed at NY NY. Great hotel, cheap ish rooms (with a jacuzzi), good restaurants, great pool and pool bar, 2 $5 blackjack tables where I hoovered up plenty of free bevvy and only 10 mins walk down to the middle of the strip. We done the helicopter tour to the Canyon, pricey at around $700 but it was worth it. I can't speak highly enough of Vegas, been twice and had an amazing time on both occasions, definitely my favourite place.
