All parties scaremonger and lie. I’m voting for the only party that is willing to acknowledge the result of the democratic vote we had. That party will also cruise to a majority so most people clearly agree with me.

Couple of points - Labour wants to negotiate a different withdrawal deal, which suggests they also acknowledge the result. PLUS, if the Tories win their majority on around 43% of the electorate, I'd argue that most people clearly disagree with you.

    But apart from that...great post.

    Farage: Huge change from Johnson

Nigel Farage says he has been encouraged by Boris Johnson's commitment not to extend the transition period beyond the end of 2020 and to negotiate an enhanced free trade agreement based on the EU's agreement with Canada.

He says this is a "huge change" and sounds more like the Brexit that he and others voted for. Not being in political alignment with the EU is a big step in the right direction.

    Part 1 - nailed

Part 2 - New Years Honours list if Tories win...

Nigel Farage claims he was offered peerage by Tories just THREE days ago to stand down Brexit Party candidates. "I was offered one last Friday. Ridiculous – the thought they can buy me, a high-paid job. But I’m not interested, I don’t want to know."

Part 2 - didn't even have to wait till New Year.

Brinksmanship from Farage.  There'll be announcement at some point that Brexit Party won't field candidates in all locations. (Tories will deny a pact and Farage will say he's happy with various promises from the PM).  In return, it'll be Lord or Sir Nigel at the earliest opportunity.

  4. I've got a different theory that Weir told the Board he wasn't going to be able to continue but would in the short term. They looked at Irvine / Sellars and didn't see them as able to be manager so brought in Smith while Weir 'worked his notice'.
No evidence for above just my guesswork.

I’d go along with that too. Far too convenient, the amount of changes in such a short period ahead of his “surprise” resignation.

I don't see there being anywhere close to a majority for EU nationals. The May majority plus Brexity Labour MPs won't go for it all

It's a fucking ridiculous idea anyway. Why EU nationals and not Pakistanis or Chinese?

I thought Pakistanis and other commonwealth country folk could already vote in a GE here?

You'd like to think so, but the UK could and would be as difficult as possible in the negotiations. It's not hard to imagine them trying to shove Scotland against a wall to 'encourage' a re-think.  I'd be more surprised if they didn't.

They'll have huge propaganda help from the media and from pro-union business voices as well as certain foreign governments, no doubt. Maintaining public support for independence in what will probably be a robust and prolonged assault will not be easy.

Scotland maintaining strong links with the EU is absolutely essential for this reason and this should be the government's priority. Not trying to remain while part of the UK, but making it clear we're itching to get back in and doing whatever we can to chum up to them. We'll need them.

Heard an interesting take on any future referendum on Brexit (debate night on BBC Scotland last night) that could probably apply for Indyref 2 (as it did apparently on the GFA vote in NI/Ireland many years ago) and that is that it wouldn't be an advisory referendum.  If the result went for change (eg to Independence) it would become law at midnight that night - effectively Scotland could be Independent the day after the referendum.  After that it would be down to a straight negotiation rather than holding the gun to Scotland's head that UK might not let you go unless.... etc.

  8. It’s definitely closing in on crunch time.
Early commentators indicating the ”deal” doesn’t do enough to satisfy the EU. Also, movement from a number of rebel Tory and Labour MPs reportedly “for” the deal (although that means f**k all if the EU don’t go for it)
Boris hoping the EU say “no” and he can blame them.
The EU will hopefully make noises about it being a good basis for further discussions and pass the ball back to Johnston.
Eventually no further movement and with a prorogue now likely in the next couple of weeks, it’ll be close to the 17th Oct date for the “surrender” bill to kick in.
What’ll it be? - deal or Benn Bill and extension with an election to follow?
How likely would it be for Brexit to be delayed but then the Tories/Brexit Party get in and take us over the cliff?
