  1. So who or what is Bartley going to pin the blame for this weekend's clusterf*ck on?

Injuries (despite having a much stronger bench than last week)?  Ice-bath avoidance?  EA Sports?  Bad dining table etiquette?  The weather?  Or himself?

Strike the latter - nothing is ever his fault, don't you know?

The whole draw does not have a decent game  in it .

We could have got worse say a away trip to the Highlands make nothing at least we will make something .

Very difficult a step up from United  but we must forget about it for now game not untill 20th Jan.

Agree with most of this.  Spartans v Hearts is the only tie that caught my eye.  Ten out of the twelve Premiership teams managed to draw lower division opposition?  They must have kept the relevant balls in the fridge for the required amount of time this time.

I very rarely go to away games so won't be heading up to Paisley for our game, but in a way I'm happy that we're not at home as our recent record at Palmerston suggests that we have more of a chance if we're not playing in Dumfries.

I wasn't there. Was that a rare good call from Marvin putting them on to take pens?

Not sure if either would have been on the pitch had it not been for injuries to McKay and Logan.  As penalties grew more likely I definitely thought McKay would be taking one.  A brave decision from Marvin to put them in the five takers though, and credit to both Johnstone and Irving for not shirking the challenge.

I thought McIntyre was excellent today as his opponent was outstanding.

MacIntyre had one of his best games so far it has to be said.  It was also great seeing Connelly looking a lot more like his old self - amazing what a run of starts can do confidence-wise for a player like him.  As for MOTM though it has to be Stone who made 1 or 10 crucial saves.

CONFIRMED: 148 unbroken seasons of Partick Thistle FC!

Our young club fell off the radar in 1876-77 but - at long, long last - we've found not one, but TWO first-team matches, both in the dying embers of that second season. The two games - away to Partick Ramblers & Smithfield - are now databased and the match hubs accessible via the 1876-77 page →

A couple of other results for you from that season:

12 April  -  Partick Ramblers Reserves  2  Thistle Reserves  0  at Overnewton

12 May  -  Thistle  5  Smithfield  0  at Sandyford Park

  6. Logan, McKay & Walker in for us.

Houston & McKechnie drop to the bench from last week's starting XI.  Ferguson not listed at all - is that due to the terms of his loan?

Ambrose, McGuffie & McClelland keep their places despite Marvin's post match ranting about them last week.

Warnock ... he's never had a gig at a stellar club.

That could explain why he has a soft spot for Morton.  😆

He had a 10 or so year managerial apprenticeship in non-league football before managing at Football League level.  The way we are going, that experience in the non-league game could make him the ideal candidate for a future role as QoS manager.

  8. Well, if Bartley was to be gone this week I'm sure it would have been announced by now.

It's a big risk giving him until the end of the year to turn things around.  Ideally if a new manager was to be appointed it would be preferable to allow him a few weeks to assess the squad before the January transfer window opens.

If the board aren't going to relieve Bartley of his duties before January, I wonder if they would allow him to cancel the contracts and rid himself of any players he feels have been letting him down, especially if, as he says, it is a small minority?  That said, it would mean putting trust in him to find better replacements despite his botched summer recruitment record, and something which is notoriously difficult to do in a January window.  Another big risk.

Speaking of the board, whatever happened to the boardroom updates that Mark Blount would occasionally write for the club website?  I can't be bothered trawling through the news archive on there, but it seems like an eternity since there was any direct communication from the board to the fans.  Yes, the updates were often filled with backslapping nonsense about community work and ignored the big issues, but at least it created an impression of openness and transparency which is sadly missing these days.  The ongoing silence about last weekends antics despite national media coverage and extensive speculation about Bartley's position gives me the impression that the board are only interested in how much it may cost to pay Bartley off, not the present and future status of the club.  They could fix that in a couple of sentences.

  9. Had I been typing this this time last week I would have said that the board, who have been incredibly lenient with our last few managers despite a relentless stream of poor results, may have been looking at sticking with Bartley until after the Stirling game which closes the second round of fixtures.  We just have to remember how long Johnston stank the place out and clung on to his job - he should probably have been sent packing 4 or 5 months before they finally acted.

Bartley's catastrophic interview on Saturday night has surely hastened his departure though.  There's no coming back from that as far as I can see.  I can only assume that board are currently putting feelers out regarding potential replacements and hoping that a deal can be done behind the scenes (and Bartley's back) in a similar fashion to when they dismissed Naysmith on the Saturday night and rather suspiciously announced Johnston's appointment on the Monday morning.

If this isn't the case, then they need to give Bartley the dreaded vote of confidence, if only to give everyone - players, staff and most importantly supporters - some idea of their thinking.  The silence from the boardroom isn't doing anyone any favours.

I was thinking the directors could have a meeting on Zoom and one of them could inform Bartley, preferably in person.
Apart from it being the chairman’s holidays and the weekend, the 11 hour time difference could make it difficult for the three of them to find a suitable time. (I’m assuming he’s in the east side of Australia).
Of course, they may have already had a meeting and decided to keep him. Or, maybe they’ve agreed previously that he gets to a certain date to turn it round. Then again, the interview that’s gone viral may have superseded that idea.
If the chairman makes decisions like that in isolation, then all this is irrelevant, of course.

Of course it could be that Hewitson is in the outback awaiting his unveiling as a late arrival on "I'm A Celebrity (In My Own Mind)" in which case we may have to wait on him being evicted before he's given access to technology.  If he is, even Farage could emerge from the Jungle with some credibility.

  11. Re-watching the interview, what struck me was that this is a man who has a second job in the media who should have some awareness about how to conduct himself during a post-match interview regardless of the circumstances.  Instead of a making a short statement and buggering off, Marvin being Marvin can't stop talking and we get are left with the QOS version of the Kevin Keegan "Love It" and Rafa Benitez "Fact" heads gone moments to treasure.

I dread to think what the players will make of it.  Would love to be a fly on the wall at today's training session.

That's some leap reading anything racist into Gibson's tweet. Gibson shouldn't have put that statement out there, very naive from a fellow professional and lacking class but to infer it's racially motivated is plain daft imo.

I'm not saying that the tweet was racially motivated indeed I'm sure it wasn't intended to be, and Bartley isn't in all likelihood the target of the tweet, but the very fact that it's only a matter of hours since he was in court facing such a charge should have made him realise that sometimes it's better to hold back and not open yourself up to any potential misunderstanding.

What a p***k of a guy. Honestly, what is he hoping to achieve by posting this? Certainly won’t help the situation with his son.

I'm not defending Bartley by any manner of means, but

    Gibson:

Managerial record by team and tenure
Team Nat From To Record Ref.
    G W D L Win %
    Queen of the South Scotland 13 February 2022 21 December 2022 41 15 8 18 36.59
    Career Total 41 15 8 18 36.59

    Bartley:

    Managerial record[edit]

    As of 11 November 2023
    Team From To Record
    G W D L Win %
    Queen of the South 7 January 2023 Present 36 16 5 15 44.44

At the bottom of his tweet Gibson should have typed  "Just salt / facts"

What are we expecting in the post-match interview?

In truth, I feel for him a bit where this is concerned.  What the Hell do you say?  He's obviously on a hiding to nothing.

However, I predict that he'll audaciously claim a certain vindication, given that we went long a fair bit today, and were still hopeless.

Nobody was suggesting we should go aimlessly long of course, but given that there's been lots of criticism of the purposeless passing, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a 'told you so' element.  Perhaps not, we'll see.

    It'll be a painful watch.

I feel for him too, he seems like a nice guy  but it is his managerial decision making that seems to be seriously wanting.

I'd suggest he has two options, either to take full responsibility, hold his hands up and admit to a lengthy run of mistakes starting with recruitment, or he could throw the players under the bus with his usual talk of individual errors and failure to follow instructions.  The latter approach could see him lose the dressing room completely (assuming he is still in charge) and doesn't exonerate himself as he signed most of them.  For the past few weeks he's tried a mixture of both excuses but I'm not sure if that patter will wear with fans again.

For all I am angry at the guy, it's not a nice situation for him to be in.  It could be that having worked towards becoming a manager for 10+ years he has ended his chosen career path in less than a year.

Aye, sorry.  I may have taken bad taste humour a tad too far there.

I just hope the board don't read this forum and get any wild ideas.

We can sack him all we like. I have no faith we will hire anyone that can turn the tide.

Our managerial recruitment record should be scrutinised more, because it is fucking horrendous. Yet it will be the same people doing the hiring.

    Peter Grant incoming then.

This is now serious, our next game (league) is away to Accies (ie nil points) and Edinburgh City are resurgent and clearly haven't read their script - this is now a relegation battle and the January recruitment opportunity will determine if we stay up or not as the present squad just don't have what it takes.

Experience is now essential. I thought before that Neil McCann would be decent but he'll see us as a poisoned chalice now and won't touch us.  McIntyre might be worth a shout but I'd not be surprised to see Billy Dodds (like him or not) approached by the board.  Where we are now, beggars can't be choosers.  It's looking grim.

Once Hewitson has got over the shock of having to pay Bartley off, I can't see him being willing to offer wages that any of your suggested names would command.
