  1. Without a doubt the best and most gifted player I ever witnessed playing for the club I love.

Who would have thought when he first signed in January 2007 that we would be lamenting his departure now in 2021?   When he arrived we were in a desperate position, bottom of the league and relegation certainties.  Many fans (myself included) felt we had signed a lazy, overweight player blessed with plenty of talent but lacking in application.  The sort of player whose career fizzles out before he reaches thirty.

How wrong  we were.   Dobbie's professionalism and dedication to the club have been inspirational.  When he left for Swansea, he promised the supporters he would return.  The fact that he did, probably while still having a good couple of seasons at a high level of English football ahead of him, and was happy to travel to and from his home on the Fylde to train and play for the club he loves speaks volumes for the man.

A fantastic footballer, a true gent and a great ambassador for Queen of the South Football Club.

I wonder if, when the time is right, Swansea or Blackpool could be tempted to Palmerston for a testimonial?

To be honest, we have a lot thank Gretna for.

We can be thankful that Gretna operated an unsustainable financial model and we were lucky* to inherit some of their cast-off players, yes.  There's no denying that Tosh, MacFarlane or McQuilken would have signed for us had they not had some existing link to the locality.  Andy Aitken was a slightly different case as he had been unceremoniously snatched away from us by Gretna but was well thought of enough to be welcomed back to Palmerston, and could be deemed to be equally local to both Gretna and Queens.

(* it could be argued that we were in a way unlucky, as meeting the wage demands of those players undoubtedly set us down the road to the bucket collections at Palmerston within 3 years when we were staring down the barrel of going out of business).

Aside from those signings though, I can't off the top of my head think of a single other reason to be thankful.  Gretna made serious attempts to poach our support, whether by infiltrating Dumfries schools with their propaganda, or taking over Greystone Rovers - the youth club with which Queens had a strong relationship and sourced players from for the previous 50 odd years - in all but name.

I worked regularly in the Gretna area in the days when they played in English non-league in front of double figure crowds, so I have a great deal of sympathy for the community there who had there club stolen from them, especially those that bought into the "living the dream" nonsense.  But there's no getting away from the fact that had the Mileson led Gretna not melted away like Icarus's wings we may not have had a Queen of the South FC to watch today, certainly not at our current level.

The bit about the fan was mentioned on Off The Ball and he emailed in to say he had been to three QOS games in his life.

If you didn't like the talking heads in that one don't watch the ICT V Falkirk one as it has Janey Godley who even more unfunny than usual as she knows nothing about football and James Allan of Glasvegas who looks like an absolute bawbag ( he is wearing shades in the darkened screening room)

    James Allan played for Gretna.

This fact alone confirms his status as an absolute bawbag of the highest order.

  4. First half summary?

Two poor teams who struggle to string more than two passes together.   A ref who is oblivious to handballs (luckily for us).  The occasional flutter of goalmouth activity.  The inevitable Muirhead booking.  A QOS team totally devoid of tactics.  We've seen more Hollywood balls than Heidi Fleiss.  Buchanan still a liability - at least he's consistent.

    Nuff said.

  5. Still no word on the Dapo appeal?

The SFA dragging their heels as usual, which must be a hindrance to AJ in settling on a starting line-up and tactics* for what is building up to be one of the most crucial games of the season.

    * based on recent evidence AJ doesn't believe in a tactical approach to games.

East has his critics on here but is still our leading assister (if there is such a word) for this season.  Based on the last couple of games I'd start him wide, drop Mebude whether or not the latter is suspended and play Shields more centrally.  Chances are though that AJ would pick Fitzpatrick ahead of East.

Is he really? I'm genuinely surprised by this as I can't ever really recall him swinging in crosses or playing through balls. He just seems to be an out ball for us and cover when defending. Never realised he was our leading 'assister'.

Apparently so, if the BBC stats are accurate.  They also have him as having a better shot accuracy rate than Shields and Ayo although his goal conversion rate is poor.

Can anybody explain to me what Euan East has done to AJ he played almost every minute of the teams good run and all of a sudden he is dropped and has hardly ever featured and the team struggles coincidence or not this looks like another good young signed Queens player that looked a good prospect hung out to dry by the manager...... Get him back in next Sat...

Who would you keep for next year's squad as we will be going through major change again next season. Dobbie going. AJ staying???

Shields, Ayo, Wullie & Ferguson, but I doubt that the former two will be staying.  If we could somehow get Maxwell & Jones back on loan that would be excellent business.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pybus, East, Joseph & McGrory back given their ages and potential.

If Dobbie retires I sincerely hope he will be offered a coaching role.

AJ won't be going anywhere 😞

  9. AJ's reluctance to use subs is becoming a major bugbear of mine.   As if waiting until the 80th minute to make a change to a team who weren't looking like scoring last night wasn't bad enough, he then decided to push Breen up as a spare striker when he still had the likes of East and McKee (both of whom are more natural finishers than Breen) on the bench and the opportunity to bring on a sub still available to him.  I'd hoped that he may have learned from the Arbroath game when he replaced Dickson with Dapo after 25 minutes and it helped turn 0-2 into 4-2, but obviously not.
