  1. "I went into a Newsagents in Belfast one morning, in the late 90s, when I worked in H&W and asked, "Do ye sell the Rangers News". I will always remember the Newsagents reply it was, "Oh Yes, You See Over Here We Have A Special Breed Of Rangers Fan". Never A Truer Word Spoken. Absolutely Brilliant From Our Friends Across The Water." Well, special is certainly one word for it
  2. They did not turn up for a match with Stenny, IIRC, and got hammered for that. (The players had not been paid, so that's why they 'struck') Happy to be corrected.
  3. Nah, I took it as the fact that they could only investigate as far back as July 1998, given that is when the SPL was instituted.
  4. Because they would change the rules to prevent that about 5 nanoseconds after RFC of Govan 2012 was accepted in.
  5. *slurps coffee, rubs hands together vigorously and settles down for a great day's entertainment right here!*
  6. Interested by this. I was a Thistle supporter back in the day, and do you mean ICT managed to shift all the "mini Bluenoses, Rangers of the North" shoit from the Caledonian part of the club? Were you a Caley man?
  7. The Slayer Diaries by Jon 'Metalion' Kristiansen A brilliant 700 page nostalgia fest for metalheads of a certain generation, weaned on tape trading, fanzines and ropy demos from Sweden and beyond. Takes us from the early 80's right through Norway's notorious 90's to near enough the present day. 8/10 Also 'I Am Legend' by Richard Matheson. Read it in one evening; it's fantastic and DON'T EVEN MENTION WILL SMITH!! 10/10
  8. Is it just me, or is this idea of an 'assist' bunkum? An import from ice hockey or gridiron or something? Players set up goals for others, yeah, we know. There is no statistical meaning behind it unlike, say, red cards, goals, penalties missed or whatever. NB: this is not a criticism of your hard work, Kris.,* just slight bafflement about people talking about something which is so vague as to be effectively meaningless. And a creeping Americanisation to boot. Grrr. * inasmuch as remembering lots of Falkirk goals is hard work!
  9. Hey that's really interesting. It does suggest that most of my training should be done at 10:15 / mile though, which would be weird. I generally mile at around 8 or 8:30 / mile when I'm in the swing of things.
  10. Boghead ranter: that's all sensible stuff. Funnily enough, I deliberately never surpassed my race distance in training. I have run 3 half marathons in the last 16 months, and have never run more than about 12 miles in training. It was kind of superstition at first, as I wanted to keep the "magical 13 miles" haha for an event. I am starting to get myself going again a bit now, 2 runs last week and I'll be back out this afternoon. Nothing fancy, just my usual hilly 4.3 miles, but it's getting the old legs and lungs back into shape again slowly. Still crummy times but just got to plough onwards before I decide what to aim for while training over the spring and summer.
  11. Not being arsey here chief, but it's Buchlyvie. I'm quite protective of it, and like to see and hear it spelt and pronounced correctly as I got married in the kirk there!
  12. It won't take long, I'm sure. I was bang on 9:00/mile, and when I'm in the swing of things I'd expect to get that down to about 7:55/mile for 4 or 6 mile runs. Just keep at it, I suppose.
  13. Well, first time out in ages went ok. 4.3 hilly, blustery miles. Had a couple of short breathers but will get past that soon enough. Time was comical though, but it's really all about getting miles in the legs again, isn't it?
  14. Same (apart from one 4 miler in October) !! On the fruit /cut the crap diet now, and going out this evening to commence losing a few pounds. Will no doubt suffer and hate it for the first couple of weeks until I get back into it, and will see what halfs or, here's a thought, full marathons pop up on the radar. Loch Ness just before I hit 40 in October, maybe?
  15. That's what I think. We'll end up with £150k or so.
  16. He's been out with a broken toe, I think, so it's not as though he's been dumped. Getting good reviews when he has played though.
  17. Napalm any good last night? Couldn't make it. (Silly question I know; they're always brilliant)
  18. Son (aged about 3): Dad, where do sausages come from? Me (one eyebrow arched, knowingly): Why, they come from pigs, my son. Son (after a pause): Do they lay them in their nests? I have only found out in the last few years, the correct pronunciation of the word "melancholy". I nearly indirectly caused the death of my father at the dinner table one evening when he asked me how I was. I replied in complete seriousness "Ach, OK, just a bit meLANKoly the now." He was a worrying shade of red and could not breathe for some time with laughter! (I was in my early 30's and have a Physics degree...)
  19. Well Candlefest at Ivory Black's last night was tremendous. A few bands pulled out, but serendipitously all the bands I was keen to see were playing still, yay!! Falloch were just supercool - check out and support a quality Scottish band going places. Winterfylleth blasted away, didn't get much response but did not miss a note. Noted Franck Ribery behind the kit, doing his thing... Altar of Plagues - well they kind of sum up post-BM for me. Some tremendous atmosphere and slow doom laden sections, the odd speedy riff-fest (great blastbeating by the drummer) but I could not shake the "hipster" doubt nagging at me. Thick glasses, hoody pulled to just the right position by the ears, they seemed somewhat self-indulgent. This sounds like I hated them but I am just unconvinced. So far. Anaal Nathrakh were brilliant. Dave C/Hunt's banter was top, they blootered the life out of the PA and, despite missing Mick Kenney, did not miss a beat. The crowd went bananas for the whole time, I've been attending Death Metal gigs for 20 years and that's the first time I've ever seen anyone build a human pyramid in the moshpit! Great stuff. 4 bands, £2 refund on the door due to the cancellations, reasonable kebab on the way back to the car, and back in dreich Perthshire by 11:40 =
  20. ...by coincidence, I have been listening to Det Som Engang Var for the last week on permanent rotation in the car on my commute. It just gets better after all these years.
  21. I enjoyed Lemmy's, but I thought the best one I've read by far was Dave Mustaine's. Highly recommended.
