Looking at the Border League, Eyemouth United Amateurs and Duns Amateurs seem to be on the rise. Selkirk Victoria are struggling, and it is a very long time since Chirnside had an SFA member club.

It is a shame that there aren't more border clubs in the EoSL. Some good grounds, in pleasant surroundings, and some good pubs,

Duns and Eyemouth are essentially the same teams that played in the EoS not that long ago. Duns last playing in the EoSL in May 2016, Eyemouth in December 2020.

Maybe if the 10 clubs in the Stirling/Falkirk council areas currently playing in the west played in the Stirling & District league it might help save it?

For anyone wondering about the geography of the Central + Scottish* AFL clubs, here's a map - purple is SAFL.

    * hopefully the merger gets rid of this silly name for a league

I think the Stirling League needs the Stirling/Falkirk teams in the Central/Caledonian leagues, as apart from Alva, they don't really have any top sides.  There's also the Forth & Endrick Welfare league - the top teams from that wouldn't be any worse than what the SDAFA have at the moment (if they could be persuaded to 'change grade').

Not sure why proposals seem to always have a conference system at Tier 2 leading into a vertical league system the following season.

Why not just start with a 12-12-12 (8th and 9th in CSAFL start at Tier 2).  No need for an extra season of conferences to "sort teams out" - the current season should be used for that.

The central lost 6 of its premier league clubs this season before a ball had been kicked, including both of last seasons Scottish cup finalists. Think that's to play a bigger part than any tbh. Only 1 of those 6 left to become a wos team. Central is struggling and no surprise they are merging. Outside the top 3/4 clubs the standard isn't as high as it traditionally has been.

In saying that, 6 of the 20 teams left in the competition are central teams (Ayrshire has 4 and nobody else has more than 2).

It won't happen like that excatly according to the proposals.

I realise that - I was just giving an indication of current strength of the leagues.  SAFL teams would struggle in the top division (at present).  Of course, if they join a better league, this will probably attract better players which will mean they will be competitive.

  6. Last 16 (with ScotScores rankings in parentheses).

Still 6 Top 10 teams left, but there will only be 2 or 3 in the Quarter-Finals, so a good chance for an 'outsider' to win this year. 2 of the lowest-ranked teams have been drawn against each other in the Last 16 (Tannochside and Neilston), and the tie of the round (Tollcross Thistle v somebody) might take a while to get played.

East Kilbride Colts (41) v Port Glasgow Amateurs (106)/Greig Park Rangers (33)
    Doune Castle (12) v Gartcosh United (10)
    Tannochside United (60) v Neilston Amateurs (81)
    Cumnock Amateurs (24) v Cupar Hearts (6)
Steins Thistle (29) v Wishaw High School FP (11)
    Cowie Thistle (34) v Chryston (32)
    Annbank United (23) v East Kilbride Rolls-Royce (30)
    Tollcross Thistle (9) v Shortlees (5)/Castlemilk Dynamo (3)/Stewarton United (26)/Lesmahagow Amateurs (2)

Hearing tonight after the collapse of the central/cale merger that the central and safl will be joining forces. Is there anyone realistically in the safl thats likely to bother the big guns in the central? Unlikely. Seems like the central just wanting to boost numbers.

Based on my ScotScores rankings - if the combined league (34 clubs currently) was to go to a 10-12-12 set up for 2023/24, there would be no SAFL teams in the Top division, 5 in the middle division, and 10 in the bottom division. Neilston's win over Bannockburn was a bit of a shock result.

Not sure how they'll merge the leagues - fairest would possibly be 5 from each league in top division, 6 from each league in middle division, and the rest (8 CSAFL, 4 SAFL) in the bottom division.

  8. Cheers, they must be one of those couple of pages that block me for offering corrections to scores.  The page works if I log out of Facebook.

In any case, they didn't publish a single result.  It seems to have been an 8-team single round robin league, with a couple of extra matches on 4th December. Just a few results I couldn't find.

  9. Does anybody know where I can find results from the Scottish Student Sport Women's Cup?  BUCS has archived results of all the BUCS (British) League and Cup matches, and also the men's Scottish Cup, but not the women's Scottish Cup.  Scottish Student Sport has results folders at the bottom of its football page which are labelled by season, but it's not possible to click on them.

    https://www.scottishstudentsport.com/sports/football/

I found the 2017/18 results on their website only via a Google search (not possible to get to it via their website).

  11. With more than a little difficulty, I've now added Sunday amateur (256 teams) and welfare (84 teams) club rankings to the site.  These have only the current season's results to go by, tagged on to the previous 4 seasons' Scottish/district scores - so it may take the clubs a little bit longer to reach what seems like their natural position.  Essentially, though, you'll find the good teams at the top, and the rubbish ones at the bottom.  So there are now

    https://scotscores.theroonba.com/clubrank/clubrankamsun.html
    https://scotscores.theroonba.com/clubrank/clubrankwel.html

Glasgow Community & Co-operative and Scottish Unity League clubs have been added to the Sunday ranking, despite their leagues not being affiliated to the SAFA (I was able to find some crossover results as a few teams from these leagues have gone on to play in SAFA-affiliated leagues this season).

The non-SAFA affiliated Edinburgh Churches League teams have been added to the Saturday section, but it was not possible to rank them due to them not playing any teams outside of their own league (and I couldn't find any teams from this league who have gone on to play in an affiliated league, or vice versa, with the exception of Corstorphine Timbers, who have now joined the LEAFA Sunday amateurs) - If anyone knows any different,  please let me know!
The West of Scotland U21 League has also been added to the Saturday rankings, as that league is, since the start of this season, affiliated to the SAFA, and eligible to enter its clubs into SAFA competitions.

So, that's all 292 senior clubs, 210 reserve and U20 teams, 617 Saturday amateur clubs, 256 Sunday amateur clubs, 84 welfare clubs, and 82 women's clubs now ranked (1541 clubs in total).

  12. In the Scottish Welfare Cup (essentially the same as amateur football, but with a different governing body), there are both Saturday and Sunday league teams playing, and they manage to work it out somehow (some Sunday teams play on Saturdays and vice versa).

  13. Stenhousemuir Community rejoining league for 2023-24 (they entered the Scottish Cup this year with their U21 team).  Alva and Riverside leaving Stirling League to join as well.

Stirling League now with only 9 teams - in danger of folding if any more teams go.

  14. Does anyone know how teams are assigned to districts for the various cups?  Can teams choose their district?

For example, East Lothian clubs usually compete in the "South" rather than the "East", but this season, both Tranent and Tranent Foresters played in the East (with all other East Lothian clubs playing in the South).

Also, Kinross play in the North of Tay (located in Perthshire & Kinross), despite playing in the Fife League - but Kinross Colts play in the Fife Cup.

St Andrews (Fife) play in the Fife Cup (naturally), but their Dundee Saturday Morning team plays in the North of Tay.

Bridge of Earn (North of Tay) and Newport (Fife) play in their "correct" geographical cups, despite playing in the Fife and Midlands leagues respectively.

Also, a couple of West teams (notably Lesmahagow) play in the South rather than the West.

You've lost me, how do you rank different leagues if their teams never meet?

I've used all matches from all leagues for this season and last season, as well as the district cups and Scottish cup.  I've also included results from the district and Scottish cups back to 2015-16 to get a better idea of inter-league strength, as well as a few results before this when some Highland clubs actually entered the Scottish Cup.  17000 results.  Basically, if clubs from a certain league do well in the Scottish Cup, their league's ranking (and that of all the teams in it) will get better, and vice versa.

  16. I extrapolated the league rankings by averaging the rankings of the clubs in each league.  One anomaly was the Saturday Morning 3rd Tier (Division 1A) being ranked ahead of it's 2nd Tier (Championship), but this may well be due to several higher-ranked clubs having to start at the bottom after moving from the defunct Glasgow & District Saturday Morning League.

Central Scottish by far the best league - even their 2nd tier makes the Top 5.
