The Irvine route, down past Lochwinnoch and out that way to Kilwinning? Liked that route until parts between Glengarnock and Kilwinning where it got hilly and slowed me down. The surface was terrible too, that stones with tar laid on them and it was rubbish for grip. But a nicer route than through the Port and Greenock.
Apparently Sustrans want to build a new route in the valley.
Ah right i've done this route up to a point, and as for your pm remark we are just opening the invite to the thread lol so less of the lip
Wisbit i'll pm ye lol

Yeah the port Glasgow route is badly signed I got to the firestation and thought feck it and headed back over the hills going home before the creeps came out.
I also used the line I'll never get a road bike. Now I cant wait to get back on it.
Wisbit you up for a cycle this weekend?

Mate I bought a mtb 2 years ago so I could cycle to work and back. Last year sold that and bought a hybrid bike ended up doing a 100 mile charity cycle. The bug certainly has bit now and I bought a road bike.

Look forward to the lights nights coming soon. Need to get myself new tops for the coming months where is a good place to buy good cycling tops at a decent price. Seen a couple of nice ones on cycle surgery but abit pricey.

Got a decent 10 mile run on the way home tonight. Watching the above clip ive seen a fair few idiot cyclists doing some of the above. Going up the inside of buses is just one that i,avoid to dodgy

When I bought the pedals they came with cleats. I think I paid about £25 for the lot. The cleats attach to the shoe, and they clip in and out of the pedal. You push your foot forward into the pedal to engage, and turn your heel out (away from the bike) to disengage. It takes a wee bit of getting used to but becomes second nature, and you can adjust how tight the attachment is.
Think I'll try get a set with the cleats included. The go for the shoes

Shimano road shoes are good value for money, as are their SPD-SL R540 pedals.
Absolute Cycles are doing a cracking deal on the pedals just now:
http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/270900872274?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar
You can pick up the shoes for about £35 if you shop around.
ETA: the pedals offer doesn't include cleats, so not quite so impressive after all (cleats cost around £15 - that reminds me....I need a new set)
So I would need to buy those pedals and cleats ? Are the cleats the connection between shoes and pedals then. Thankfully I have a birthday coming up. Think ive used my quota on cycle spend this month lol

Got the track pump and a new pair of gloves. Next up cycling shoes. So any good links for the shoes and pedals

No serious old trainers and football socks for heat lol. The bike came with pedals that had toe clips. Thought about clip in shoes but not on my old bike. Maybe this one

Im still wearing my old football trainers and fitbaw socks. She will moan stealing her clingfilm lol

Worth investing in a wee set of the lightweight glove liners.
They cost about £5.00 from Decathalon and a) Although really thin add extra insulation and b) Stop your main gloves getting manky and honking with sweaty hands
Cheaper than a new pair. She is gonna love me just got a new speedo now need a pump inner tubes and gloves lol

Like I said, the majority of the portable pumps are for "get home" use only.
These pumps are for inflating tyres to correct psi every time before you go out, whic is a must.
I inflate mine to 100 psi every Saturday and by following Saturday, they're down to around 60psi.
You'll really find it difficult to inflate road bike tyres to 100- 120 psi with a hand pump
.
Ah you learn something new everyday. New to the road bike game.

I got just under 20 today need to get a decent set of gloves. I have full finger ones but they are lightweight

This is the one
Just over £30 from Halfords but a brilliant piece of kit for keeping tyres inflated to correct pressure with minimum effort
ETA; Does both types of valve
Thats not really small and handy looking for one to take with me

I have a mini pump specialised one im pretty sure it has both types of valves. But my worry is the pressure when im out and about. Cheers for the advice I might just get a mini one to attach to the bike and keep the other attached to my other bike.

Got a run out on the new bike. Have a question looking at the valves does the road bike require a,different air pump. Or will my mini pump I have do?
