  1. I hope so, I do like it, but sadly, I have my doubts long term. I will disagree with you about Matt Smith though, he's no David Tennant.

no we agree about this. but our interpretation of this is different. everyone else thinks its bloody brilliant he is not tennant. he's VASTLY superior. you don't. and. you're wrong.

  2. You're the one who agreed it was niche! For the record, I enjoyed it and thought it was an excellent episode, which isn't surprising as I'm a massive fan of Moffat's writing, but it doesn't change my overall view.

oh it is niche. its also brilliant. and not dying.

oh and can we name another time the dr has had a beard?

  3. Well that was quality.

Don't think anyone mentioned the Amy saying she's pregnant, then not, then not even the TARDIS can say if she is or not.

time can be rewritten. it just hasn't been fully rewritten so apparently you can be a 'little bit' pregnant.

  4. that was singularly the moff's best episode to date. its also an episode that wouldn't have happened under RTD or the 10th doctor.

it is an episode herein known as 'the moff's utter mindfuck'

I'm fairly sure River is the kid. I'm fairly sure Amy is the mother. I'm fairly sure its the tardis what causes the regen's. and we've known for some time river is in jail for killing the doctor. so its probably the adult river in the suit. but time, can be rewritten....

'did my old man' does this refer to him being old, or being her husband and I also liked the seed moff planted with 'what kind of doctor are you...' :-)

and also. before XBL clatter in here and goes, 'you're all niche lovers you are. its dying, DYING I tells you!' can I just say. that was not just niche, it was fucking brilliant.

  5. I disagree with this statement. That's all I want to share with P&B.

    this or this

trust me I've had to endure this shmaltzy shit 4 times now due to alternate female elderly relatives. the only thing that got me through it was pippa's visage.

edit: though there is only one way to find out......

and it preferably would involve a paddling pool and lots of jelly.

  6. I love this denial! Face it, its falling out of the national consciousness and its on its way back to being a niche. Even the posters claiming to disagree with me seem to be supporting my view.

I thought Tennant was an excellent Doctor. Again, you're another who would rather see it as a niche. The show wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular without him.

you realise its more than this one figure you've quoted? can you furnish us with the bbc america figures? its more than national conciousness -which you're wrong about btw- its international now.

tennant was a reasonable lead in a show. an excellent doctor he was not. smith is both a lead actor in and ensemble but also a superb doctor. I couldn't care less if its popular. clearly money wise its better if it is, but its not integral to the quality of the show. I'm not bothered if it is niche -what a fucking brilliant niche it will be. -House, is niche. and is biggest selling franchise in us at moment.

  7. It is a lie because Tennant and Eccleston were both better than Matt Smith and Tom Baker. That is not to say that Smith isn't a great Doctor, he is, and he is growing on me more and more.

This is both wrong in my opinion -and thus conclusively- and also proven to be wrong by BAFTA. Smith is the only doctor to have been nominated for playing the doctor.

  8. I had this discussion with people last series, but I think Dr. Who is dying. They've changed it and I'm really disappointed in Moffat's work so far. He's clearly targeted the core fans, the "geeks", and while its fun and the writing is good, there feels like there is something missing from the show. The spark and drama that made it such a massive show has been taken away, and its well on its way back to becoming a niche show once more. Also, I don't like Matt Smith, he's no David Tennant, and it just doesn't feel as good a show anymore. :(

    wrong.

But the problem is that Dr Who failed. It didn't work as it was because eventually, it only appealed to its core fans and wasn't attractive to general viewers, the ones who buy the merchandise and get the show talked about. Since it has been revived, it was aimed at a different kind of fan rather than the "hardcore", but that has gone now, as you have just acknowledged yourself. I mean don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the episodes done by Moffat, but there needs to be a limit, and while I had hopes, he's not turning out to be as good as I hoped for. The target audience has changed, and the new target is much smaller and much more niche. I'm not sure I can consider myself part of that niche any more, sadly.

    wrong

It's a fucking awesome niche and you're not invited.

    green dot coming up.

It represents a decline. A decline that will continue IMO.

    wrong.

its staggering that an intellect vaguely comparable with my own could be so wrong. that disappoints me.

fucking brilliant episode. Moffat back to his best. Smith brilliant. gillan Brillant. Darvill the best he's been imo and Alex brilliant.

    how can you not enjoy dialogue like;

"shout if you get into trouble"

"don't worry, I'm quite the screamer..."

also I now understand where cordon fits into the series having seen the clues in this episode.:D

and then there's the whole Amy being River's mum thing....

  9. I don't think my phone's working. I can make calls and receive them, but I don't seem to be getting any texts, so I don't know if I can send any either.

    mime's definitely not working.

well the phone is working and receiving inbound calls, but I owe orange £50 so they've 'suspended' my service. or cut me off till I pay to put it in more accurate terms. its a fucking nightmare. I keep getting texts from all over the place and can't reply to them.

but my pttgoyn, is east lothian's council. I mean I get that you have to send me a letter/email telling me I didn't get the job or 'not progressing with my application' but was it ness. to send me three identical emails in one day? one at a time I can cope with, but three in one hour is like being kicked in the groin and then the face. and the the groin again. I took a time out from applying for other jobs just to try and cheer myself up.

  10. Hertz.. First of all I've never driven a Kia Picanto but I can imagine having been a passenger in other Kia's -the word that comes to mind is Air-fix.

but also they just sent me a modify/cancel booking thing (I'm hiring a car for Thursday/till lunchtime Friday when I fly back up). this is not the PTTGOYN but then there's a bit that say's to check-in online click here.

but it turns out you can only check in online if you're flying to Gatwick Stansted London city or Heathrow. which makes me worry more about what a shit hole luton must be.

then there's the whole, return it to us with a full tank of fuel. So I can tell I'll spend most of Friday morning running about like a blue arsed fly in Luton looking for tesco to fill the tank on this bloody picanto and knowing me I'll put diesel in a petrol.

on the up side I learnt from a good source that abbey books in paisley -a good second-hand book-store- are having a sale on chess books. so that's part of Wednesday fixed.

  11. What is the # thing all about? Why do people put random words after a #?

if you add # and then whatever you want to # then you can search for your # and if others use the same # then you can effectively create a themed chatroom,

e.g. if I search for #ukedchat then tweetdeck displays all the tweets with the hash tag #ukedchat.

    its actually brilliant.

  12. I use it to network with other teachers - I'm sure there are other ways of doing it, but I've been able to source some really good resources and share it instantly with over 100 other teachers using it. Works for me.

    #ukedchat

if you create search for that, its quite interesting stuff.

edit: there's also obviously a load of shite. you just have to be critical in how you assess what you're reading as with everything.

  13. Has anyone else been following this argument between Rio Ferdinand and Piers Morgan? It's amusing in a "I'm desperate for column inches" kind of way.

its amusing in that Piers is not bothering with him

its not as funny as Piers argument with Lord Sugar...
