  1. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!! That is all.
  2. Have a look at Meall nan Tarmachan as I mentioned as I think it is great for beginners. It starts very high on the Killin -> Glen Lyon road, so not much ascent and there is a well built path all the way to the summit. There are great views on a good day and it feels like a mini-mountain range in itself. There is the option to head up the path to the Munro summit and back down the same way or it can be made a circular walk by heading along the ridge - which is straightforward but very slightly exposed in 1 place (someone that isn't great with heights might not enjoy). The ridge route is great but there is no need to do it. After that, there is only a v short drive to Killin for a celebratory pint ETA - a photo of Tarmachan that I pulled off google images:
  3. I loved that - but it was followed by the campest crowd reaction of all time
  4. It's very straightforward to be honest - there's even a handy fence if the clouds are down and your navigation skills aren't up to it Amy reason in particular why you're doing it, if you don't me asking ? A lot of folk seem to do Chonzie as one of their early munros as it's one of the "easiest" but I've never seen the appeal having been up there 3 times (twice with newbies). Slight digression but when I get to choose a straightforward day for others in that part of the world, I usually suggest the Tarmachan as there is way more reward for a similar level of effort - and the possibility to do the ridge if the group is up to it..
  5. Bye County. Only the play-off place to worry about now....
  6. Yep - it's great. Assuming it's the same programme, I bought it on DVD years ago and my memory is that it was on STV originally when they still had some sort of Gaelic remit. I had no idea it had surfaced on Alba, so great find..
  7. I really liked Scott McDonald - I think he's our top Premier era scorer as well (or did I imagine that?) and has done a lot to ensure that we're still in the top league over both his spells. BUT - he seems to be the worst in the world at the well-engineered transfer. I don't know if he's got a shite agent or if he handles himself but he singularly fails to do what he sets out to do each year. Captain Cook* made it to Australia with less of a fucking fuss than Skippy has over the past few years. From what we can gather, the balance of worth-putting-up-with/disruptive-wee-bastart tipped the wrong way after he still wasn't able to attend events at Sydney Opera house once the window had shut in January. There is a feeling that it's for the best he's moved on - but we'll know that once the season starts.. *and Steven McGarry
  8. Stuart McCall took 'Well to 3rd-2nd-2nd during that spell and doesn't get a look-in due to a "lack of positive goal difference", whilst John Brown is in there - presumably on the strength of his "standing outside Ibrox shouting "whaur's the deeds!?"" stat. I'm not for a minute saying McCall is a world beater manager but to ignore him in the company on that list is odd. Still, it's a great School Holiday project - he'll probably get a sticker for that.
  9. On the highlights, the East was really empty - I was actually surprised it was over the 3000 mark.
  10. Has Peter Lawell blamed a small minority yet? He loves a small minority almost as much as he loves bringing up the Celtic fans "great reputation" in the 8 or 9 statements he makes every year after the small minority have trashed a ground or made something ill-advised with their craft set.
  11. He stonewalled about Blyth (from a disciplinary, sucking-gas-oot-a-balloon point of view) earlier in the press conference - so it wasn't directly related.
  12. Just watched the Robinson presser on Youtube there and at the end, he was still talking about moving people out to get more people in. I assuming he wasn't talking about Moult, Hennegan or Cadden (as potentially saleable assets) but I couldn't work out who else we would be looking to get rid of now that Clay has gone?
  13. Quite looking forward to getting back to Fir Park tomorrow and seeing if Bob McHugh Shags the Burds is still a song. Most interesting thing for me is who starts up front - from my perspective, it would be crazy not to start with Bowman given that he is actually looking confident. For all that Moult is a better player, it really is more important to make sure a player that is actually going to be here this season is in the best shape. I understand that we still need to get Moult in the shop window (and the small matter of winning the game) but if we can have Bowman scoring regularly for us, that's a big bonus given that a lot of people were bracketing him with Blyth a couple of months back..
  14. Yep - it's this stuff that basically makes my season ticket uneconomic - I only get one out of habit. For various reasons, early kickoffs and Friday nights are games I can't do. Hate TV games.
  15. The definition of a hostage to fortune. Genuinely - come back at the winter break and give us your honest opinion. If you've pinched a great player off us for nowt, you'll get no complaints from us. PS - that 5-1 on Sat is looking marginally better after tonight's LC results
  16. Brilliant- well done to him as there's loads of easier ones than Cairngorm. And he's been up one of the highest mountains in the country.. PS - Oss/dubhcraig are always a horrible bog fest
  17. I also find that there is bit less "camaraderie" (to use a shite expression) in the busier English areas. When you're in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and run in to someone, whether they are on a bike, walking, on skis, etc - you stop for a chat, let them know anything useful and head on. Down south, where there is so much more contention for the land, there is a lot less of that and you get walkers vs bikers vs horseriders and all of that shite. It's not for me - but they do have much better country pubs to be fair
  18. Great photo from probably my favourite Cairngorms hill. If I ever do Sgor Gaoith again, it'll be via the nice bike ride from Colymbridge to Loch Einich as I certainly won't have any need to do a'Bhlair again as it's a bit of a non-entity...
  19. Even a lot of Munros at the weekend, you're lucky to see 1 or 2 others. Unless you're on the real honeypots, you won't see a lakes-esque queue in Scotland. The only place I've been that was as bad was Tinto on a sunny Sunday morning
  20. Right decision for everyone. He was a stop gap player that actually played a lot due to Mchugh and lucas being unavailable so much but he's unlikely to see any action this season. Best of luck to him.
  21. This sort of (falsely) assumes that the responsibility to develop lies solely or mostly with the club as opposed to the player themselves. If a player took the personal responsibility to (for example) do extra gym work to get himself physically ready for the step up and showed the management at the time that he was putting that level of commitment into it - of course, that sort of player will get his chance and be in a better shape to compete at 1st team level. On the other hand, if a player, regardless of how talented he is is not progressing in the same way, even if it is within his own power to do so, then does he automatically deserve the same "chance"? At any club, a very small percentage of players make it not only to the first team, but actually establish themselves there and progress and it's no co-incedence that the players recently from the 20's that have "made it" - Cadden, Erwin and Hall - were clearly physically equipped for it. You can have all the potential in the world but if you can simply be brushed aside by any first team opposition player, no amount of "exposure to first team football" will make a difference.
  22. One of the main reasons I very rarely head to the Lakes despite them being closer to me than lots of Highland areas - can't stand the processions up the hills. I was in Ambleside for the weekend a couple of months back and even climbing a relatively obscure hill, there were more people than I've ever seen on a hill in Scotland. Makes you realise how lucky we are.
  23. Yes, it is the Sron Tairbh and it looks worse close up I had crampons on for it that day and it was pretty hard going but over quickly enough. On having a plan - I totally recommend it. I deliberately left a bunch of decent stuff - Lochnagar, Ben Eighe, Ben Nevis, Lhadar Bheinn, Grey Corries, the Buachaille - for the last 20 which gave me some motivation to get through the process of picking off lots of hills that I had never really fancied doing (and a decent selection for the last one).
